They both stare at the doorknob which contains the skin of Iden, as if it were to peel off once he released the doorknob. Unsure what to do, Menzost carefully opens the door avoiding the flaked-off blue skin which is stuck onto the knob. As the door creaks open, both Adamar and Menzost make their way inside to see that they have found another note left by Iden.
It read ‘So, you found the shack where I've been staying for the time being to get everything prepared. Now it is time for you to find out the big scheme of things. To find Gascon, and better yet the truth. Head to where this all started. Oh, by the way. How are the books you guys checked out?’ At the bottom, the same ominous blue fingerprint and the name ‘Iden Fester’.
“Where did he go?” Adamar asks while staring intensely at MEnzost who has his eyes focused on the note.
“I don't know hun.” He says while looking back at Adamar. “It says to go back to where it has all started. Does he mean the castle in which King Shendon was assassinated?” He asks looking at Adamar who is pacing throughout the small shack.
“I'm pretty sure but I think I have another question for you babe?” Adamar says while stopping to stare. “How does he know that he checked out books at the library? Has he been following us for this long and us not realize that he was close to us and we could've gotten him?”
“I didn't even catch that hun. That's insanely creepy cause not only does he still have our dog. But he is taking up every inch of our brains.” Menzost says as he puts the letter back onto the wooden table.
As he does so, he notices bite barks on the table as if it were a pass time for Gascon to do while Iden has been out for so long.
“I guess Gascon got a hold of this,” Menzost exclaims while pointing it out to Adamar.
“He sure indeed,” Adamar says kneeling down. “He has such a bad habit of doing that when new people are around babe, we might need to work with him on that.”
“I agree with that statement but I think what we need to do first is to find Gascon before we train him, hun. Especially since we don't know how long it'll be til we see him again. Let's head out, it's starting to get late. I bet we can make it to my parent's place so we can start our way to Norwich to talk to someone there.” Menzost puts the note into his pocket and starts heading to the door, Adamar closes to follow.
As they head out of the shack, they see the way in which they came from. Noticing that the tide of the river has risen. Adamar has a sigh of relief knowing that he won't have to cross that again.
“I know we have to go this way. Dumbartone was that way and it's a straight line to Grasmere.” MEnzost says as he turns to Adamar who is lost in thought staring at the river, shivering. “Are you okay hun? It looks like you wanna go for another swim.” HE says as he nudges Adamar only for Adamar to freak out.
As Adamar snaps back to reality he notices Menzost staring at him. “Im fine babe. What did you say?” he says looking towards Menzost.
“I said it's a straight line to my parents. If we leave now we can make it before nightfall.” Menzost says looking Adamar up and down as if he needs to check to make sure he is okay.
“Alright. Sounds like a plan.” Adamar says.
“Are we almost there babe?” Adamar asks as if he is whining begging for this trek to end.
“Almost hun, it's only going to be about ten more minutes but if you keep slowing down and I have to wait for you it'll be thirty,” Menzost says as he noticed Adamar leaning upon a tree. “See look at you. By the time we get there it'll be morning if you keep doing that” As Adamar hears this he immediately picks up his pace and catches up to Menzost.
“See I told you we will be fine,” Adamar says in a snarky manner. Menzost shoots him a look as if it is not the time. “Did I say something wrong babe?” He asks as he is genuinely concerned.
“You didn't hun, Im just worried about my parents,” Menzost says as he is now sulking.
“Why are you worried babe? You know they are more supportive than my parents have ever been. Hell, they even came on the third anniversary of the tavern. They love you and they love how you have found me to be with you forever.” Adamar says as he sees Menzost start to tear up. “Don't cry babe, It'll only make you feel worse, and trust me. We will be fine and I will stay by you no matter what.” Adamar exclaims as they approach Menzosts parents. “Look at me babe,” Adamar says, as Menzost looks at him. Adamar kisses Menzost “We got this.”
