Nikki took a deep breath as she stood outside Charlie's house, not knowing what to say to Meave. Her mind went blank, but she felt relieved that she could finally ask someone about her mother.
"Hey, Dean, are you sure you don't want to come inside?" Nikki asked. Since they were on their way to Charlie's residence, Dean maintained his cold attitude.
"Just go, talk to whoever you want to talk to," Dean sighed.
"All right, your choice, if you need anything, just come inside," Nikki said. Dean gave her a short glance before she entered past the back fence. He took a long breath and returned his gaze to the beautiful moon.
Dean whispered to himself, "Why am I worried about her when I should be worried about myself?"
Nikki's heart is racing as she enters into Charlie's backyard. She looked around, her gaze wandering. It still looks the same as it did when they had a picnic here back then.
"Hey guys, did you buy everything?" Charlie asks as he exits from the house's backdoor.
"Nikki! You came!" he exclaimed enthusiastically.
"Yeah, I stumbled upon them and decided that I should visit... you... tonight," Nikki explained awkwardly. A cat popped out of the backdoor then became an old lady dressed in an orange dress was out smiling at Charlie.
"Charlie, are your friends already here?" she asked, finally meeting the gaze of Nikki, who had frozen in her spot after recognizing who the old lady was.
Nikki whispered, "Meave."
"You know her?" Charlie asked, confused.
"I'll just step out for a bit, something came up," Meave abruptly apologized, but was visible in her voice and panicked.
"You're going... where? Meave!" Charlie asked, but Meave had already left. Nikki then dashes out the door to catch up with Meave.
Meave, who had no idea why a young lady was after her, simply ran away. Running under the moon night, keeping her human body, it became harder for her to run and hide.
"Meave! I need to talk to you, why are you running away?!" Fortunately, Meave came to a stop to gasp for air.
"Why are you so desperate to talk to me? Do I owe you something? Do I know you? I haven't been in this town for a year, and I don't remember you. What do you want?" Meave demanded.
"I just wanted to ask about my mother! I'm not here to bother you, I'm just curious."
"Your mother? Who?"
"Reese?" Meave's face was confused, as she took a close look at Nikki.
"That's why you look familiar, you just look like her now." Meave approached Nikki and stroked her face with both hands.
"You... really looked like her," she laughed.
"So... Could you tell me anything about her?" Nikki asked.
"What exactly do you want to know about your mother?" Meave asked.
"Wh ---"
"Wait, why are you asking me about Reese? She hasn't met you yet?"
"Met who?! What?"
…
After learning the truth, Nikki dashed back to Charlie's house.
"Hey Nikki, what happened?" Charlie asked, but Nikki simply ignored him. She hurried towards the home through the backdoor, no longer illuminated by the moon, and ran towards the living room. Nikki then went upstairs and noticed an open door. Nikki's gaze was fixed on the cat resting next the old woman, who was sleeping happily in a small bed. Meave's comments reminded her that she looked exactly like her.
"Reese?" Reese cautiously opened her eyes when she heard someone call her name. Reese rose slowly and walked down the bed, meeting her daughter eye to eye.
"I'm Nikki… your daughter."
