“I’m not going to let them have me.” Alma said to herself with quiet determination. Then she waited. 

It felt like an eternity before she heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Alma focused on keeping her breathing as quiet as possible and her body still. The click of a turning key signaled the door being unlocked. 

“You can’t hide from me,” Brianna’s amused voice made Alma tense. “You might as well come out.”
