Multiplication and Division
Multiplication and Division were twins, with Multiplication being the younger brother and Division the older sister. They lived in a world where their roles represented human civilization, while Question Mark, a Druid wielding two sickles, symbolized the forces of nature.
Multiplication often felt that Division was less useful compared to himself. He could multiply anything, creating abundance and growth, while Division’s ability to split things into halves seemed limited by comparison. This led to a sense of disdain towards his sister.
One fateful day, Question Mark began to pursue them relentlessly, determined to chase them to the end of the world. As the danger grew imminent, Division handed a small bag to Multiplication and urged him to run away without looking back. Multiplication fled as instructed, but soon realized his sister was no longer by his side.
He looked back to see Division valiantly trying to divide the world into two halves, attempting to create a barrier between nature and civilization. Her efforts resulted in a deep and wide chasm. That’s how nature and civilisation were torn apart. The gap between nature and civilisation was too deep and wide.
Despite his longing to return to the forest to find Division, Multiplication was unable to cross the gap. Eventually, he opened the small bag his sister had given him. Inside, he found that Division had split her heart in two, leaving one half for him.
Moved by her sacrifice, Multiplication doubled his sister’s love and commitment to caring for others. And so love is the most precious gift in human civilization and the only sin that nature could forgive.
