I dodged one of the giant frogs as it tried to grab me.
“Do what I do!” I shouted to Mira. I dashed up to one of the frogs and between its legs, where it had trouble grabbing me. Mira did the same with another frog. The third attempted to attack Mira. I turned around sharply and leaped onto the back of the frog before sinking my fangs into the thick skin.
Then the frog tried to grab me with one of its webbed hands. I leaped off of it and landed on the wall. I quickly examined the room. It had several pillars of rocks that a web could be built off of. With that in mind, I jumped around, leaving lengths of silk behind. The ring of silk kept the frog in one specific area. I looked over to see Mira doing a similar action, penning in the frogs.
“Bite them!” I told her. I leaped onto the frog and then onto the floor next to it. It swiped at me, but I attached the stand of silk and then dashed under its arm, leaving more silk behind me. I slowly wound many strings all around it, leaving it wrapped up and helpless.
When it was finally subdued with another poisonous bite, I turned to see Mira struggling to wrap up the other two frogs. I quickly jumped to one of the frogs and bit down, leaving my venom behind. Mira did the same to the other frog.
When at last the frog stopped struggling, I let go and dropped to the ground.
“Whew!” I said. “That was tiring.”
Mira stood there, heaving. “Yeah,” she agreed. “It was.”
"Experience threshold reached," The system said. "Level has risen from [Level 1] to [Level 2]. Stat bonuses occurring."
"What the hell?" I said.
"Levels. Like a video game," Mira said. "That's neat."
"Huh," I said. "Well, it looks like we've raised ours.
“We should make, like, a home or something,” I said.
“Yes, we need protection,” Mira said. “But how do we make one?”
“We can use silk for most of the construction,” I said. “We can use rocks and stones to camouflage and protect the main structure as well.”
“Hmm,” Mira said. “Should we start that now, or should we do that after we eat?”
“Probably now,” I said. “Protection is important.” With that, Mira and I started work on our home. We first gathered rocks and stones to protect, linking them together with silk. Then came the interior. The walls, and really everything else, were made from silk. After that we created a large system of strings that appeared invisible, acting like a net to stop anything from getting very close. When we had finally finished, we dragged one frog inside, leaving the other two a distance away. We ate before lying down in our hammocks.
“Goodnight,” I said to Mira.
“Goodnight,” Mira mumbled back. I then drifted off to sleep.
I woke with a start. There was the sound of shuffling and clinking metal somewhere nearby. I climbed out of my hammock and found the doorway of our home. Here the sounds were louder, but they seemed to be coming from behind me. I climbed up and over the nest of silk to see a human stuck in the webs that acted like a net.
He struggled to free himself. He tried to pull his arm free, but couldn’t. He had clothes underneath shiny armor, which rustled when he moved. Then his sword tapped one of his greaves, creating the clinking sound I had heard earlier.
I edged closer to him, causing him to turn and see me. He yelped and tried to free himself even faster. His speed increased as I walked closer and closer to him. However, the silk strands kept him in place.
I noticed that he held a large gray egg. He kept struggling, but he could not get free. Then he pulled out a torch and lit it. He then dropped the torch, letting the flames catch on the silk strands and burn away.
He broke free of the burning silk and ran off, leaving the egg behind. The silk burned until there wasn’t any to burn. I fixed the trapping webs and then lugged back the egg to the home.
“What’s going on,” Mira asked me, stumbling outside.
“A human was stuck in our trapping webs,” I told her. “But he burned them to escape.”
“Oh,” Mira said. “What’s with the egg?”
“The human left it behind,” I told her. “I was thinking we could eat it maybe.”
“Hmm,” Mira said sleepily. “We can do that later. I need to sleep.”
“Same,” I said. “Let’s rest.” We clambered inside with the egg and then went to sleep.
