Taiga approached the white door to his house. She made a soft knock on the door.
"Who is it? Is that my baby girl?" He got his brown cane and went to the door. He opened it and smiled. "Taiga! And who's this guy?"
"This is Kuro; he's my boyfriend."
"Now, I told you. No boyfriends unless I approve of them." He turned to her red-eyed beau. "Do you have a job?"
"Gonna actively look at some point."
"Car?"
"No sir, Mr. Lászky."
"Do you pay for the dates?"
"Yes, sir. We only had one last night." He showed him a picture of the two at the dance. "We also went to Ramen Hut."
"Would you take up for my daughter?"
"Unless she's in the wrong."
He sighed. "Guess I'll allow it. You seem better than her exes. Those guys were fucking sorry!" Mr. Lászky changed his tone to a calmer tone. "So, you have any goals? And you call me 'Szilveszter.' That's my first name. Unlike some of my family members, I refuse to Americanize my John Hancock (name)."
"Okay, Szilveszter. I wanna be an MMA fighter and own a gym. My late father also wants me to own his garnet gem mine as well. But first, I wanna go to college."
"Ah, I see." He waltzed to the kitchen. "Come on. I have shrimp paprikás and peach Coca-Colas."
They were at the table. Szilveszter was showing them baby pictures of Taiga and Ryuuji. (There'll be more about Ryuuji at one point.) "They enjoyed Pokeman!" he laughed.
Taiga corrected him. "It's Pokémon, dad."
Kuro asked, "Wanna know something: Why'd you left the Jewish faith?"
"My rabbi got caught in a paedophile sting operation. He was trying to meet a 10-year-old. That's all I gotta say. What's that one dragon character in the show? Charizard! He looks kinda cool. I don't like Pikachu though; it's a weak one."
Kuro agreed, "Just looked at its stats. You're not wrong. But one thing about Charizard, it's 4x weak to Rock. I'm a Charizard fan and all, but still. It gets handicapped by Stealth Rock, an entry hazard."
Szilveszter laughed sheepishly. "I like that Lucario guy, too. Never played the games." He ate his paprikás. "Mmm."
Kuro tasted it. "Kinda spicy. I like it! Also, you should probably play the Pokémon games."
"I don't think I'll be here to play anything."'
Kuro's jaw dropped. "W-What do you mean?" he and Taiga asked.
"I have cancer. The doctor said I have till tomorrow to live; however, I never did nicotine. I already signed my will."
Taiga dropped her fork in disbelief. "You can't die! You have so much to live for!"
"There's nothing I can do, honey. I've been deteriorating for months. I never told you because I didn't know how to go about it. But I knew it was gonna happen."
Taiga didn't eat anything for the rest of the day.
"But I do wanna say I'm sorry I shut you out, honey. I just couldn't take my wife dying. Burying her was the hardest thing I ever went through..." His voice started breaking. "Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go lay in my death bed. Also, Kuro? Treat my daughter well." He limped off to his room to go lie down.
