After dashing out from the church, gaining a lot of stares from other priests and visitors, I finally reached the Farthrow Cave.
The sooner I get there, the better.
‘If I help him now, then maybe I can convince him to join teams with me…!’
There he is! The protagonist of the novel, fighting Sloth both to their limits.
Vincent Canmore!
“It is over for you, Canmore!” Sloth shouts, his robe tattered, head bleeding, “my little friend finally arrived…!” He continued, laughing at the situation. Sloth thought maybe with this they will finally get rid of the nuisance.
Hearing that, Vincent whipped his head, sending his best death glare my way. Oh if looks could kill… That certainly sent shivers down my spine, in a bad, threatening way. As expected of the protagonist, his life is hanging on a thread, but he still looks very attractive even with blood and scars all over his body.
After seeing his glare, I quickly whipped my hands up, signaling my surrender. And with that little gesture, both of them looked at me weirdly.
“Oops, uh, I think you got the wrong idea there, Sloth,” you started, laughing awkwardly.
“What do you mean?! Hurry up and finish this bastard!” Sloth replied, holding his bleeding arm, gritting through the pain. Out of all seven of us, I believe Sloth might be the weakest. Sure, he has some nifty tricks up his sleeves, but if Vincent could survive through it, Sloth wouldn’t hold up much longer, and he knows that.
“You see…” I lifted my left hand, aiming a point at Sloth, “I got tired of being a bad boy,” and with that, I summoned Milo, which quickly lunged after him.
“Y-YOU…!!! YOU BETRAYED US DIDN’T YOU, GREED! CURSE YOU, CURSE YOU, CURSE YOU…! YOU WILL PAY FOR WHAT YOU’VE DONE BETRAYING THE HELL’S COURT…!!” Sloth managed to spit out before Milo annihilated his body until there is only dust and fabric from his torn robe.
I have to be honest, I’m a little bit concerned at what he meant, since in the novel there are no mentions of people ever betraying Hell’s Court, no. No one dared to ever go against Pride. And with that threat going in the back of my mind, I started to feel a lump in my throat.
It is a little bit too late, and also I’ve decided to sever any contact with Hell’s Court, that includes Pride.
Before I could further think about anything, I felt a blade pressed on my neck, not daring to move an inch, the light from the blade glinted from my peripherals. This action caused a growl from Milo, before I put a hand in front of it, signaling it to not attack Vincent.
“Do not expect gratitude from me,” Vincent said. He is greatly injured, but believes that I currently pose greater danger.
“Explain. Why did you do it?” I believe he is confused, but he tried his best not to show it, instead trying to sound tough.
“If I were to say that I have a change of mind, would you believe it?” I replied nonchalantly.
“No,” I chuckled a bit at his honest and straight answer.
“I’m sorry for laughing— However, it is what it is. I decided that it’s best for me to cease being involved with their business,” I explained.
He slowly withdraws his blade, but still has his guards up.
“It is best that you leave this place now, Greed. Before I change my mind,” He sheathed his blade back to his hip.
With me betraying from the novel’s plot, I lost my ability to predict what will happen in the future. Sure, I’ll still know the major events that will probably still occur, but this puts an extra threat behind me.
I need his cooperation.
Currently, it seems like we are at the beginning of the story, where Vincent has yet tried to gather his companions. However, if I could join his party, then I will probably be safer than being alone.
I could provide insights for him, as well as help him with my defense magic. This should be a win-win situation for the both of us.
“Vincent Canmore. If I may have a word with you,” I tried to strike a conversation with him politely, “You heard what Sloth said earlier, that Hell’s Court will not leave me alone.”
He stares at me, giving me his full attention, harsh look in his eyes.
“I believe it will be beneficial for both of us to create a temporary alliance, to eradicate Hell’s Court. That way you’ll be able to complete your mission, and I have less things to worry about,”
I tried to fake my confidence, but couldn’t help but feel like sweat is starting to form even though the place is cold. This man is really unreadable.
I opened my mouth to continue, “What do you think?” Trying to get a reaction out of him.
I thought it was a good idea before, but seeing as he glared harder at me and gripped the hilt of his sword tighter…
“You dare suggest that?”
Eh?
