Chapter Three: Home

Chapter Three: Home

Jun 09, 2023

As Aurea and Leo finally arrived back home, they were shocked to find their city in chaos. Their spacecraft shook as explosions rocked the buildings around them, and smoke filled the sky. Aurea's heart raced as she realized that this wasn't what she was expecting upon her return home. She had been kidnapped, and now her home was a battlefield.

"What's going on here?!" Aurea shouted, looking around frantically. Leo stepped up next to her, his eyes scanning the scene with a grim expression.

"It looks like we've come back in the middle of a war," he replied, his voice tight.

Aurea felt a wave of fear wash over her. She hadn't expected to come back home under these circumstances. She looked around, trying to gather her bearings and figure out what to do next. Her stomach turned at the thought of how many innocent lives could be lost if the fighting continued.

"We need to find a safe place to hide until we can figure out what's going on," Leo said, leading the way toward a nearby building that looked relatively intact.

Aurea followed him, her breaths coming in short gasps. Her hands trembled as she thought of the people she knew and loved who could be out there in the midst of the violence. As they ducked into the building, she couldn't help but wonder what had led to this destruction.

"What happened?" she asked, her voice shaking.

"I don't know," Leo replied, his jaw tense. "But we need to focus on staying safe and figuring out how we can help."

He pulled out his communicator and tried connecting with any of the other royal guards, but the signal was weak and barely functional due to the interference caused by the war.

"We need to make a plan," Aurea said, trying to remain calm despite the chaos around them.

Leo nodded in agreement. "We'll have to gather information on what's happening "
Aurea nodded, taking a deep breath. They sat in silence for a few moments, listening to the explosions and gunfire outside.
"We need to find out who's behind this," she said after a moment. "If we can figure that out, maybe we can stop them."

Leo nodded again, his expression determined. "I'll start asking around and see if anyone knows anything."

Aurea felt a glimmer of hope at his words. Maybe they could bring an end to this chaos and restore peace to their home.

"And I'll see if there's anyone we can help right now," she said, standing up. "There have to be people out there who need our help."

Leo smiled at her, a small but genuine expression. "That's why you're the leader."

Aurea smiled back, feeling a sense of determination fill her. They might not know what was happening or how they would fix everything, but they would do whatever they could to make things right.

Together, they stepped out of the shelter and into the chaos.

As they stepped out into the chaos, they were immediately bombarded by sights and sounds that made their hearts race. Buildings were on fire, people were screaming and running for cover, and gunfire echoed through the streets.

Despite the chaos around them, Aurea and Leo remained calm and focused. They quickly surveyed their surroundings and located a group of people who were huddled together in a nearby alleyway, clearly terrified.

Without hesitation, Aurea and Leo approached the group. "Are you all right?" Aurea asked gently.

The group looked up at them with wide eyes, clearly surprised to see anyone who wasn't involved in the violence.

"We need to get out of here," one of the group members said, her voice shaking.

Aurea nodded. "We'll help you. Follow us."

The group followed Aurea and Leo as they weaved through the chaos, dodging debris and avoiding gunfire as they made their way toward safety. Along the way, they encountered others in need of assistance, and Aurea and Leo did not hesitate to lend a helping hand.

As they finally reached a safe place, everyone collapsed in exhaustion and relief. The group they had helped thanked Aurea and Leo profusely, grateful for their bravery and kindness.

As they were helping the people in need, word of Aurea's return had already begun to spread. Those who recognized her as the recently kidnapped princess were shocked and overjoyed, and quickly spread the news throughout the city.

a small crowd had gathered around Aurea. People were saying things like "It's really her!" and "She's back!"

Aurea could feel tears welling up in her eyes as the realization of what was happening hit her. She had finally found her way back home, and her people were overjoyed to see her.

As the crowd began to cheer, Aurea looked over at Leo and smiled. She knew that she couldn't have made it this far without his help, and she was grateful for him beyond words.

Together, Aurea embraced the moment, soaking in the love and support of her people. Though there would be many challenges ahead, Despite the joyous moment, Aurea and Leo knew that there was still a war raging on. The city was in a state of chaos and danger, with the enemy forces advancing. They knew that they couldn't let their guard down even for a moment.

As the cheers began to die down, Aurea's mind turned to her mother, the queen. She knew that finding her was the next step in restoring order to the city and ending the war. Turning to Leo, she said, "We need to find my mother. She could be in danger."

Leo nodded, his expression serious. "I agree. We should split up and cover more ground. I'll search the palace and surrounding areas."

Aurea squeezed his hand in gratitude before turning to the crowd. "Please, if anyone has seen the queen or knows of her whereabouts, come forward. We need to find her as soon as possible."

The crowd murmured amongst themselves, some shaking their heads while others looked thoughtful. Suddenly, a timid voice from the back of the crowd spoke up. "I saw a group of soldiers going into the castle and the princess along with the two princes followed them in. "

Aurea's heart raced with fear at the thought of her family being held captive in such a dangerous place. "Thank you for telling us. We will do everything in our power to help them."

With renewed determination, Aurea and Leo set off towards the castle, weaving through the now quieter streets. As they approached the castle, they could hear nothing not a sound.

Aurea rushed into the throne room, heart filled with fear, and stopped short at the sight before her. Her mother, Queen Isadora, lay on the ground, unmoving, surrounded by debris and broken glass. The air was thick with the smell of smoke and dust, making it difficult for Aurea to breathe. She covered her mouth and nose with her sleeve, coughing as she looked around frantically for any signs of danger.

As she moved closer to her mother, the sound of rubble falling echoed through the room, making her jump with each crash. Aurea fell to her knees beside the queen, tears welling up in her eyes as she took in the extent of her injuries. Despite the chaos around them, Queen Isadora remained regal and breathtakingly beautiful. Aurea marveled at her mother's black, long curly hair, which cascaded down her back in thick, voluminous waves. Her dark skin glowed even in the dim light, and her dark brown eyes sparkled with a fierce determination that seemed to speak directly to Aurea.

The queen was wearing a golden gown, its fabric shimmering in the light filtering in through the broken windows. Despite the stains and rips marring its surface, it still clung to her figure like a second skin, highlighting her curves and accentuating her strength. Aurea couldn't help but be awed by her mother's beauty, even amid such a terrifying situation.

Aurea's heart sank as she looked into her mother's eyes. They held not only pain and regret but also deep love. Queen Isadora struggled to speak, and after several attempts, the words finally came out in a barely audible whisper. "My dear Aurea," the queen said, "your father, the king, betrayed me. He told the enemy about the only way to kill me. That's how they managed to come this close." Tears streamed down Aurea's cheeks, but she held her mother's hand tightly. "What about my siblings?" she asked, her voice trembling. "The enemy took them," the queen replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "But I've made sure they will be safe." Aurea nodded, trying to stay strong for her mother.

"What can I do?" she asked, her voice shaking. The queen's grip on her hand tightened as she spoke. "Protect our people at all costs," she said. With those final words, the queen's hand went limp, and Aurea knew in her heart that her mother was gone. Overwhelmed by grief, Aurea let out a guttural scream. Her body convulsed, and a pair of wings burst out of her back, but they were different from the beautiful golden brown wings she had before. These wings were large, jet-black, and lacked any feathers, a cruel reminder of how her captors had ruthlessly stripped away her old wings, leaving her fatherless and vulnerable.

Aurea was on her knees sobbing as a group of soldiers approached. Leo, who had been tasked with protecting her, quickly assessed the situation and realized that they were outnumbered and outmatched. "Princess, we need to go. Now," Leo said with urgency as he gently helped Aurea to her feet. He grabbed her hand and led her toward the back of the castle, away from the approaching soldiers. They quickly made their way to the docks where a small ship was waiting for them.

"Aurea, I know this may seem daunting, but it's the only way to keep you safe," Leo said, his voice calm and reassuring. He forced the princess onto the ship and set the coordinates for a planet on the outskirts of the galaxy where he knew she could live in peace. "I will come back for you as soon as the situation is under control. Until then, I will make sure the people of this planet are taken care of," Leo promised.
