Dinner was as luxurious as always, with new dishes being presented each day. The elegant table exuded a delicious aroma, filled with various fruits, meats, bread, and desserts. The conversation flowed smoothly, alternating between casual small talk and more serious discussions. While her family engaged in conversation, Celena observed her surroundings and enjoyed her meal. The white walls were adorned with still-life paintings, and a fireplace in the middle of the room added warmth. The large window offered a view of the greenhouse, its intricate beige curtain with gold carvings catching her eye. She glanced down at her plate, filled with roasted meat and vegetables, a side of soup, and a glass. She absentmindedly picked at her vegetables with a fork, earning a scolding from Grace.
After a fulfilling dinner, Celena excused herself from the rest of her family and went to her room, she changed her clothes into the fairy costume she hid under the bed and looked at herself in the full body mirror near the vanity table, twirling around so she can assess the fabric, she nodded at the mirror finding the length of the skirt below the knee and size just perfectly hugged her figure.
her costume was composed of a white-collar lace on her neck an off-shoulder green dress, a long puffy sleeve with a slim gold bangle on each side of her arm holding the sleeves in place that reached her elbow, and near the hem of her skirt was a white fabric of frills the white pale wings barely reached her waist to top it all off she wore green flats, she smiled at the mirror in satisfaction her white hair untamed and curly, pink eyes gleamed in delight, looking at the clock on her room, she widened her eyes.
'7:30 already?!'
In a hurry, she reached under her pillow and retrieved the necklace Silfie had gifted her, placing it in the pocket of her dress. Without hesitation, she headed for the open window, adrenaline coursing through her body. With a swift leap, she jumped and grasped onto a nearby tree branch, her heart pounding. Letting go of the branch, she landed softly on the bushes below, quickly tidying her dress. Unnoticed by the guards, she skillfully made her way past them, briskly walking towards the forest where Silfie awaited her.
Finding Silfie perched casually on a tree, Celena waved at her to come down. The cool and dark forest sent a slight shiver down her spine. As Silfie finally descended, she gaped in astonishment, her eyes scanning Celena from head to toe. Celena stood there with hands on her hips, a smug look on her face, proud of her costume. Silfie stopped right in front of Celena, gushing at her appearance.
''Wow, you look just like me, but more fairy-lady like''
''I know right'' Celena playfully flicked her hair.
''Now where to next fair, fairy'' silfie playfully winks at her eliciting a smile and eye roll from Celena.
Walking deeper into the moonlit forest, Celena led the way with Silfie trailing behind her. She looked around feeling prying eyes on her, gosh the feeling she got while she was walking here made her remember about kimodameshi or the test of courage game, it was not the greatest memory to remember when she got left behind, hearing small critters and animals like hoots from owls, faint growls and occasional rustling made her skin crawl, finding the air around her colder she put her hands on her upper forearm rubbing them to elicit a small warmth.
'Okay...meeting in the forest was not a great idea, plus my legs are itchy' she sarcastically thought, furrowing her brows in annoyance, trying not to scratch the itch on her leg, She glanced back to ensure Silfie was still following her.
''What's with that look, Celena? You don't have to worry about anything. I'm here with you. If someone messed with you, they'll have to get through me first,'' Silfie exclaimed, tilting her chin upward while crossing her arms, still the little cute 4-inch flower she was.
Celena tried to hide her giggles, eyeing Silfie's small form in disbelief. How was Silfie going to protect her from anything with that petite build? Celena didn't know the answer, but she hoped that Silfie stayed true to her words. The first time they met, Celena had to save her. Stopping abruptly at the thought, she fully faced Silfie, her eyes holding an inquisitive gaze. a small clearing was seen behind her filled with vibrant colorful flowers which bathed in the moon's light.
''Ummm... question, Silfie. If you can shrink to that size, which supposedly makes you invincible, why weren't you able to do that before when you were being chased?''
''oh, that... I ran out of magic juice'' silfie simply shrugged.
Celena gaped at her response, disbelief plastered on her face. Her answer couldn't be that simple. There had to be more to it than that, right?
''Wait... that's actually a thing... like legit real?'' Celena probed for more answers, eager to learn about the powers her fairy friend possessed.
''Yeah, remember when the townsfolk talked about a human figure in the dark and small flickering lights? That was me. I was curious about human stuff. It weirded me out, you know? I wondered what contraptions were used for and how they were used, so I was kinda drained'' Silfie replied, batting her eyelashes and looking bashful.
''oh... okay'' Celena slumped her shoulders, lips thinning in a straight line, not the answer she was looking for but acceptable, this goes to show that even someone like silfie who was not human, ran out of power or whatever magic she has, magic was not always readily available and infinite.
''so what now'' silfie asked, crimson eyes sparked with interest in the plans Celena conjured.
With a clap of her hands, Celena smiled mischievously, her pink eyes gleaming with excitement, her hair dancing along with the flow of the wind, and her dress.
''We're going to be cupids.''
Celena exclaimed, her eyes lighting up with excitement as she gazed at Silfie's bewildered expression. The moonlight filtered through the swaying branches, casting a soft glow on the forest floor, while the gentle rustling of leaves accompanied their conversation.
Silfie tilted her head to the side, her brow furrowed in confusion. "Who's cupid, or, more importantly, what's a cupid?" Her voice carried a hint of curiosity as she tried to make sense of Celena's words.
"You know! The God of love! The one with wings and bows that shoots people, and poof, they fall in love!" Celena's voice rang with enthusiasm, and her gestures animated the moonlit clearing, where delicate flowers swayed in the gentle night breeze.
"EXCUSE ME? SHOOTS PEOPLE?! And if we're talking about the God of Love, shouldn't it be the Sun God Helios?" Silfie's eyes widened in alarm, her voice slightly hushed as she glanced around the dimly lit forest, as if wary of hidden eyes and ears ready to shoot them. The scent of damp earth and blooming night lingered in the air, creating an otherworldly ambiance.
The moon, radiant and full, cast an ethereal glow on its surroundings, revealing the silhouettes of ancient trees and the mysterious dance of shadows. Celena's mind raced with questions, her thoughts intertwining with the whispers of the night. What tales and myths did this world hold, and how did they differ from the ones she knew?
"What do you mean by that, Silfie?" Celena's voice carried a touch of curiosity, her eyes shimmering with a mix of intrigue and wonder. She leaned in closer, her figure bathed in moonlight as if drawing energy from the nocturnal realm.
"You know, there are only 2 Gods as far as I know about the religion of this empire. One is The Sun God Helios. He represents life and holds all the positive aspects of every thought, word, action, and being, like love, happiness, faithfulness, and truth – the good ones, you know?"
Silfie's voice lowered, mirroring the hushed tones of the night, as she shared her knowledge. The gentle hoot of an owl echoed in the distance, blending with the symphony of nature.
"The other one... is The Goddess of the moon. Her name is Selene. She represents Death, and unlike Helios, she holds the aspects that are opposite to him, like hate, sadness, faithlessness, and lies."
Silfie's voice trembled slightly as she spoke of Selene, her fear palpable in the moonlit silence. Memories of tales and legends passed through her mind, and she couldn't help but shiver, clutching her arms closer to her body.
"They were the first Gods that ever descended from the sky, and along the way as they traversed the world and interacted with the people, Selene died... I don't know what exactly happened to Selene or the circumstances of her death, but if you want to know more about them, I suggest you go to a temple. They're more versed than I am," Silfie's voice carried a hint of solemnity, her eyes darting around as if she feared the moon itself was listening to their conversation.
Celena's mind spun with intrigue, each word painting a tapestry of mythology and history. The moon, a celestial witness to their secrets, bathed the scene in an enigmatic radiance. The forest, cloaked in darkness, whispered ancient tales of gods and mortals. Silfie's fear of Selene mingled with her curiosity, created a complex web of emotions in the moonlit clearing, drawing Celena further into the mysterious depths of this world.
'Interesting,' Celena pondered to herself with a sheepish smile, her thoughts swirling with intrigue. The concept of the moon and sun gods in this world resonated with her own, although they bore different names. However, it seemed that in this novel's realm, all the gods from her world had been fused into two distinct entities: Selene, representing darkness, and Helios, embodying the light. But as her gaze wandered upwards to the sky, where the moon perched atop the clouds in majestic isolation, Celena's curiosity about the world's myths deepened. She turned to her companion, a glimmer of eagerness in her eyes.
"hey, Silfie what about fire or the elements?" Celena probed leaning towards Silfie, placing both her hands behind her back and intertwining them, interested in the myths the world had to offer.
"All elements that are attributed to light all belong to Helios including us fairies, if its dark then it belongs to Selene, hey Celena why do you not know these things? I mean you do live in this empire, right? but it seemed as though this is your first time hearing it, and god knows I'm not a religious person, these are just the basics"
Celena's expression faltered, a bead of sweat forming on her brow. She clasped the necklace Silfie had given her around her neck, buying herself some time. 'Crap... I can't just blurt out the truth... I can't reveal that I'm not from this world and that I've only been here for a few weeks, enjoying a life of luxury with my parents' money. Plus, the novel never really delved into the religion of this empire. It mostly focused on the protagonist's perspective...' Her eyes darted around, avoiding Silfie's gaze, as the situation grew increasingly awkward.
Just then, a snap of a twig broke the silence, capturing their attention. Celena and Silfie turned their heads toward the sound, their curiosity tinged with caution. Emerging from the rustling bushes was a young man in his twenties. His eyes widened in disbelief, and his finger pointed directly at Celena. Without thinking, Celena offered a friendly wave and a warm smile. not catching the faint glow that the necklace emitted. to her surprise, the man let out a bloodcurdling scream and dashed away, muttering incomprehensible words like, "No way!"
Baffled, Celena turned to Silfie, seeking an explanation. Silfie's expression mixed exasperation with disbelief. "You just let him see the love of his life! You're wearing the necklace, aren't you?" Silfie grumbled, flying closer to Celena and pointing at the glowing carvings on the pendant.
"Oh, right! I wanted you to lure humans here That's why you here! I wanted to show people the image of their true love. But why did he run away like that? " Celena pondered, her gaze following the path the man had taken, trying to make sense of his reaction.
Silfie shot Celena an offended look, placing a hand over her heart. "Really, Celena? Did you use me as bait? Well, fine, count me in," Silfie mischievously smiled, continuing, "But you should know that there are five common reactions when people see the image of their true love."
Celena's eyes sparkled with anticipation. "Tell me more, Silfie. I'm curious to know what those reactions are."
