Nayrorei wasn’t always confident, she wasn’t always strong either - and working for Nakorand definitely didn't make it easier for her at all.
Nayrorei was the youngest Forerunner and one of the six Lightrunners. However, she was different, she wasn’t like the rest of the Lightrunners; even though they weren’t that much older than her, they were tall, beautiful and confident while she had horns and long ears like a Shadowrunner.
She wielded shadows which no other Lightrunner could wield.
The Mother of Kon Pha’ara, Miphana, served as a loving guardian to all Forerunners. She was always caring and supportive to her, telling her that she was powerful in her own way.
As much as Nayrorei wanted to believe her, the little Nayrorei couldn’t heal as efficiently as the other Lightrunners. She was always able to heal an immense amount before her spark leaves and she’s unable to heal until a good duration of time had passed. The others could heal for a longer time and properly close up wounds, while Nayrorei could only numb it temporarily before healing the wounds instantly. As good as it sounds, there was never a thread to keep the wounds closed and healed, so then the wounds would reopen in full force eventually.
Miphana tells her it’s because of her young age, but Nayrorei can’t help but think it’s because she’s weak. Pharys, the given Father of the Forerunners, definitely nailed it in her head about that.
The Lightrunners were the first lives of a Forerunner, while the Voidrunners were the last at their power stage. They were like the protectors and most respected them, especially the Lightrunners, who were at rock bottom of the power stage. So, she thought, it would be enjoyable to work alongside the Void and Shadowrunners - as if she was worth something enough to help them with their jobs.
Before she was accepted into Nakorand, Nayrorei hardly saw Voidrunners; in fact, she hardly saw any of the other types of Forerunners other than her own. She was always sheltered in her little house of the Lightrunner’s little world, Miridia.
She was… always alone.
There’s only six of them and most of the time, the other Lightrunners would stick together and idle her out. Though, she guessed it was because of her clothes and how no one ever knew how she truly looked because of it; a long cloak that covered her entire being. It was an order from Miphana who had always told her never to show her eyes, her face or her skin to others. So, she continued to wear a cloak that covered her horns and body. Yet, despite being blindfolded as well, she could see perfectly fine.
Lightrunners are scared of what’s different to them, and they would definitely idle her out if they ever found out how she truly looked like. So, until the day the others could see that she isn’t a threat as they think she could be, she must stay hidden.
Though, one thing remained in her mind; something Miphana told her. Her eyes were like no other - she could see living Beings' aura, which was like the life, emotion, and being of a person entirely. If a person was angry, she would be able to see that through their aura - which to her, looked like a pale veil over the body of the Being - and if they were angry, the aura would spike. If they were sad, their aura would narrow down to the outline of the body it veils, stuff like that helped Nayrorei see even with her blindfold on.
Lightrunners, along with the other type of Forerunners, may not understand that - so Nayrorei just listened to Miphana's words, as she didn’t know any better. She doesn’t want to wear this cloak, she doesn’t want to wear this blindfold - she wants to be free like the others, but what can she do?
“Mother, I don’t understand why I should take this thing with me,” Pharys snarled, “she’s not going to bring anything good on the battlefield.”
She just stood there next to him, standing in silence with a bowed head. She tried to ignore that he doesn’t even consider her as a being - rather a thing more specifically.
“Right, so let’s get this straight first,” Miphana scoffed, piercing her finger upon his chest with a deadly glare. “You will treat her as one of your own peers, is that understood?” She sinisterly continued. Pharys huffed an annoyed sigh, glancing over to Nayrorei, “secondly, if I even see a scratch on her poor little body, it’s you who will get the punishment, is that clear?” She continued.
Nayrorei’s never seen her this annoyed before…
Pharys huffed, “Understood, Mother.”
Ever since then, she’s become the healer of the Voidrunner and Shadowrunner warzone division.
Their only healer…
With her powers still not handled properly, she’d lose energy very quickly and whenever she seemed exhausted, Pharys would force more energy into her to keep healing.
Most Voidrunner and Shadowrunners would just ignore her, not even paying any mind to her. Some Shadowrunners would demand healing even when they’re healthier than another; but there were always four Forerunners who were nice to her.
One Voidrunner had long pale blue hair and blue eyes, she nicknamed him Azure as she wasn’t allowed to know their names on Pharys’ demand. Azure was… interesting to say the least. He treated her somewhat decently compared to the other Voidrunners in the brigade - at least he knew how to say ‘thank you’ to her after healing him.
His aura felt comforting to her, even though he was quite the tough cookie, she felt safe around him. Like a Knight protecting her… even if he was rough around the edges.
Another Voidrunner had white hair and red eyes, she nicknamed him Cloud as clouds were white like his hair. He often patted her on the head after healing him, thanking her very enthusiastically. Contrary to the way he acted and treated her, she felt unsafe around him - like a viper preying on the weak… she took no mind to it, and continued being nice to him nonetheless.
And then the Shadowrunners, who had brown hair with one blue eye and one white eye; this one whispered her name to her after a certain mission - her name being… Keyoji.
It rang a bell, but she couldn’t exactly figure out why.
Before she could even think of that thought, Keyoji swiftly introduced herself with her twin brother, the other Shadowrunner who was kind to her; his name being… Keishou, who shared the same features as Keyoji, the only difference was a red eye instead of blue.
However, she was still quite curious about those two mysterious Voidrunners; she always wanted to ask for their names. Still, Pharys had commanded her not to communicate with his brigade no matter what.
Azure and Cloud piqued her interest the most as they was mysterious; they had a strong and powerful aura, but something was always restraining it down. Apparently Cloud was his brother, who also had a powerful aura that seemed chained down by an unknown factor. Cloud seemed energetic and silly despite that though, never taking anything seriously.
But his aura would spike whenever he was near Azure…
