I've also heard that Narcissus became so enamored with his reflection (not knowing who it was, for some reason... he didn't seem too bright) that he forgot about eating, sleeping, and just about everything else and just withered away until he died... when Echo found his dead body she started crying and where the tears fell the flower grew up.
