Once upon a Time
Magic ruled over the earth
but one da-
*Ethereal Bang*
Enough of that old line, let me tell you the real story.
Long ago I met a boy, a trouble maker, scared of his power. My master and a friend, so I'm here to tell his story.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"well fuck" I was stuck in a locker, again, I could get out if I wanted. But as long as I didn't have enough control over my spells, it'd be better to wait for someone to walk past. after all I might end up obliterating the door and who ever was on the other side, I just got to wait it out and hope someone would pass by soon "hey is anyone out there" I made a small knock on the metal door of the locker, this was the third time this week and I was not liking that i just had to let the stupid jocks bully me day after day, despite being able to turn them into a frog or something.
"hello?" oh yes someone is there, thank the all Mother "is someone in the locker?" the voice was familiar but I couldn't think about that, I could be free.
"hi yes, can you help me please" I knocked on the metal door as best as I could, louder this time so that he knew which locker I was in. the door swung open and as if I today couldn't get any worse I came tumbling out, my legs must have fallen asleep while I was in there. I braced for a hard fall but instead I landed on something, I wouldn't say soft but it was better then concreate.
"are you- okay?" I craned my neck to look up to see that I had fallen on my savior, embarrassed I quickly got off him looking him over I realised why his voice was familiar, it was Jake Morrow the Rugby captain and he was staring back at me with intent eyes "you gonna offer to help me up or not" he smiled as he reached out his arm, his teeth were perfect.
"ah yes" I reached out my hand and took his hand, moving my whole body to help him off the ground "sorry for fall-" I froze as images of a Rugby game came flooding into my mind.
I watched as Jake ran across the field and within that one moment I saw him a player with a red shirt and the number 7 plastered on his back, I couldn't make out anything else running towards Jake as he had the ball and before he could move he was tackled by number 7 and then it all went black, for a second I thought that was all but then the next image appeared in my mind. A funeral with people crying, I recognised some of them from school and then I looked at the headstone, it had his name, 'Jake Morrow', I looked for the date of death to see when this vision takes place and I saw 'September 13' but no year.
"you okay man" his voice snapped me out of the vision "you spaced out" I looked at him, he was still here, not dead, that was just a vision, it hasn't happened yet.
"when's your next game?" I grabbed his shoulders and shook them slightly.
"what?" he was pulling away but I didn't have time to deal with this casually.
"when's your next game" I insisted, if his next game was tomorrow then i need to warn him, but how.
"tomorrow" he looked concerned "you okay man you look like you've just seen a ghost" his game is tomorrow, he's going to die tomorrow.
"look believe me or not, you need to be carful tomorrow, stay away from the player in red with the number 7" he looked at me like i was crazy and I realised I was still holding his shoulders and he looked about ready for me to let go.
"what ar-" I covered his mouth with my hand and he looked about ready to run.
"just stay away from player 7" I looked him in the eyes and pled "if you see him running at you do what ever you need to avoid being tackled" before he could say anything I let go and turned on my heels, running down the hallway. I hope that even if he didn't believe me, he would at least be scared enough to stay away from number 7.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"aunty I'm home" I feel exhausted, all day I've not only been dodging the bullies that stuffed me in the locker, but also the schools most popular guy Jake "I had another vision today" Aunty wanted me to report every prediction i had, so she could keep track of it's development and also see if I needed to lodge a proper Prophesy with the Magi Council.
"oh Seb how wonderful, you really are coming into those powers" Aunty yelled from the kitchen, unlike my sister who had the added power of teleportation, I was blessed by the all Mother to see the future "how's your spell work coming along as well" since our parents died, my Aunty Liz has been taking care of us and helping us advance our magic rather then sending us away to study.
I walked into the kitchen, the whole room was earthly coloured from the amount of herbs and plants she had hanging around the place "I'm having problems visualizing and controlling the amount of mana that is used" I sat at the kitchen island it had a wide range of jars full of herbs and animal parts for my aunties potions and cooking "I was shoved in a locker again and I couldn't even open it with the unlocking charm" she looked up at me, not stopping her cutting motions as she looked at me, unlike my black hair, hers was sandy blond and she didn't brush it much, leaving it tied up in a braid every time I saw her.
"it just takes practice my dear" she was cutting up some ginger root, if she was making dinner or a potion I couldn't tell since she likes to use ginger root in almost everything, she says it helps the potion go down "now tell me about this vision you saw, was it relating to a test or interaction?" now I know that she will scold me for this but its better to get it over with.
"I saw someone's death" I watched her, she kept a calm face, knowing fully well I saw more then just that, the visions always showed the details to figure out when it took place and what happened "and I may have gave them a warning to try and avoid their death"
her face fell "Sebastian Morgan Felix Knight" yep I didn't need future sight to see this coming "What have I told you about altering someone's fate, your oracle ability is meant to foretell fates and prophesies, not so you can go around changing what the all Mother has decided" the Magi Council has decreed that altering the fates of Normies and other Magi is strictly forbidden, as it has unseen consequences. I am meant to just see the future and if it is of note submit a Prophesy to the archives.
"how could I just stand there and see how he died and see how sad everyone was- " she slammed the knife she was holding down stopping me from speaking another word, i knew going into this without a plan was not wise but nothing could get past her absolute truth, she'd be more upset if I tried to lie.
"go to your room, you will not be eating tonight" oh shit, i really pissed her off, she loves food and would scoff at the idea of sending children to bed without supper and if she's sending me without even something small
"aunty I'm-" I tried to defend myself but she just held up her finger, it was pointed at me and i was afraid. Magi can cast a simple spell without words, all they needed was their finger to direct it, Aunty always said never to point fingers.
"just be glad this is the only punishment I'm giving you, if the council found out you disclosed a Prophesied fate to a normal, they would not be so understanding" she walked around the island placing her hand on my back, I tensed as I felt her magic seep into me "this charm will help you sleep, now go to your room" she smiled at me but I could see she was not happy.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"so no food as punishment" Jessica stood in the doorway to my room, she had a gloating smirk as she stood there looking at me, her red eyes like mine stand out from her pale complexion, it was always weird being twins, she was much better then me at everything. Making friends, school and most of all magic "what did you do? turn a teacher into a frog? ooo, no, made one of your bullies explode into goo" her tone was joking which means Aunty didn't tell her yet.
"I told a Normie their future"
"Sebby are you crazy" she walks further into my room and closes the door "what if the council finds out" yes the council, the rule makers and overseers of all crime, I've always had to interact with them because of my ability, even as a child they wouldn't bat an eye if i had broken this law. in their eyes no matter the crime the punishment is to be stripped of all magic or in my case death.
"they won't find out" I open my basic spell book and try to ignore my sister "besides the guy doesn't exactly know he is going to die, I just gave him a warning to avoid someone" I glanced up at her and she didn't believe that I just vaguely mentioned the event "okay i might have said a bit more but i defiantly didn't say he'd die"
"who was this poor soul you wanted to save?" she looked down at my book and saw that i had just been reading the instructions for summoning a Familiar" interesting spell, might help with you bully problem but its forbidden Sebby" I looked down at the so called forbidden spell, it was forbidden because of the inquisition a few centuries back, which led to the death of many Familiars that now they refuse to be bound to magi. But maybe i could try, I'll have to note the ingredients for later.
"it was Jake Morrow" her face paled "i saw it as i held his hand cause I accidently knocked him over" she sat on my bed still looking shell shocked.
"when?" her eyes narrowed, any light hardiness she had now gone "do you at least know when Sebby"
"tomorrow nights game" I looked away from her intense stare, I know she's always had a crush on him and to be honest he was hot but despite looking like my sister he'd never go for someone like me anyway "I told him to avoid the player with the number 7 on their back"
she moved closer as if we weren't alone "did he believe you" I looked at her, unsure if he did "right why would he believe you, you don't exactly have a trust worthy look about you" she cracked a smile as she said that, obviously trying to lighten this serious moment, to know when someone is to die and to stop it would be considered a crime.
"I don't look trustworthy?" I scoff at her, smiling back, knowing she is just trying her best "I look like you if I'm shifty looking then what does that make you?"
"well for one I hide my eyes at school and you don't" as if to emphasize her point she summons a mirror and shoves it in my face, the dark crimson of my eyes glowing slightly, a sign of the magic that runs through my blood "and you also dress in all black and paint your nails black, a real emo"
I know I don't try to hide my difference but what's the point, nothing lasts for ever and time is running out "yeah he has no reason to trust the freak" I closed the spell book and laid down, tiredness starting to take me over "just leave me to sleep, Aunty will be expecting you for diner"
I rolled over so I couldn't see her pity, I haven't said it but she knows me and she knows the fates I see and without saying it, she knows I've seen mine "Okay Sebby" her voice was soft as she stood from my bed, the absents of her weight moving me, she opened the door with a quite creek "well I hope for his sake he took your advise" I hoped so as well.
