It looked like a shell, half buried, but as she dug through the sand around its edges, she found it was something completely different, something she'd never seen before and thought only existed in stories. She had to be imagining—it simply couldn't be a tesseract, an object that gives you the ability to stop time. If you use it, you can touch anyone else with it and they'll be able to move through the frozen world just like you.

She hides it in her shirt and hurries back to her parents' umbrella set into the sand. She stuffs it in her bag and goes to search for more things to collect.

When she gets home, she runs to her room with her bag and grabs her Tesseracts: How to Use One book off her bookshelf.

She reads through the chapter on regulations while in a frozen world and how to start and stop time and she attempts to stop the world around her by following the instructions.

At first, she didn't think anything happened when she turned parts of the device the way the book said, but she went downstairs and found the television frozen with her dad sitting still on the couch in front of it. And her mom was frozen too, in the middle of cutting up veggies for dinner.

She ran outside and marveled at how still everything was, a bird was frozen in the middoe of a wingbeat, just hovering in the motionless sky.

She went back inside, to the tesseract, but it wasn't on her bed anymore, or underneath it.

"Oh, no." She uttered.
