Chapter 5: The Girl In My Dreams
Majesty’s POV
Majesty was currently leaning against one of the meadow’s trees while he tilted his head up to look up at the starry-filled sky above him that always seemed to fill him with some sort of joy whenever he would see those stars. Maybe, it was because it reminded him about the times before that dreaded war took place. One of the soft breezes that passed through the meadow gently brushed by his face and filled his nostrils with the scent of sweet flowers. It wasn’t long before the tranquility of the meadow lulled him to sleep, but his dreams were most of the time unpleasant despite him falling asleep in a pleasant place.
He couldn’t remember when this all started taking place, but if Majesty had to take a guess, he would say that it happened sometime after the war ended between dragons and the sorcerers when the world was swallowed up by the quietness that the war had caused for both sides.
The one particular nightmare he had was always the same. His body was wrecked with the feeling of dread as if everything at that moment was pointless, and the only thing he could hear was the sound of his heartbeat pounding in his ears as he hopelessly looked ahead of him to see a slender figure standing in the distance. No matter how many times he tried to shake off the terrible feeling, it never went away and stole the air from his lungs, leaving him breathless, as the figure started to walk towards him.
The figure always walked with grace with each step it took toward him, and once the figure was finally bathed in the moonlight, he could see her long white hair that was as beautiful as snow falling on a winter day, but he could never see her eyes that were shadowed out by her bangs, and whenever he tried to find those eyes of hers, he felt like he was staring into nothing more than a bottomless void of darkness that never ended.
As she got closer, his breathing got louder as he struggled to catch his breath, and no matter how many times he internally screamed for his body to move, it remained frozen in place as he stared at her walking toward him.
The grass crunched beneath her black boots with each step she took, shattering the peaceful silence the meadow had, and her knee-length black dress flowed with grace with the breeze that passed by her.
She rarely spoke a single word, and when she did, it was never in complete sentences, almost as if she was nothing more than a glitch. Her mere presence was unsettling, or maybe it was because he viewed her as nothing more than a ghost that constantly haunted him within his dreams that he could never seem to figure out.
“This isn’t real; you’re nothing more than my mind playing tricks on me. I just need to breathe, and then you’ll go away,” Majesty said to himself in a panicked voice before he reached up to quickly place his hands over his ears while he squeezed his eyes shut tightly. With his eyes closed shut, the world was bathed in darkness, and every sound around him faded away into the distance; the only thing that was filling his ears was the sound of his heavy breathing mixed in with the sound of his heart pounding.
But, the sudden warmth of someone placing their hand against his cheek ripped him out of the darkness and brought him back to reality whether he wanted to or not. This sudden contact startled him and caused his eyes to snap open to look up at her as she leaned in close. At that moment, all the oxygen that had been within his lungs left him, and all he could do was look up at her as his body refused to move away from her. It was then his eyes drifted down to her lips as soon as he saw her lips start to move.
“Don’t go. You can’t go,” she said in a serious tone. She said this in a way that if someone didn’t follow what she said, there would be consequences. There was no malice lacing her voice, almost as if she had a concern for the person she was speaking to. Or maybe that’s just what he wanted it to sound like to try to cope with this constant nightmare he was having.
“I don’t…understand what you mean.” He said as he continued to look up at her with the hope that she would answer his question. But, it appeared that his hope soon died when she ignored his question.
“He’s watching, and it won’t be long before he’s watching you!” her sentence was filled with an ominous tone that made him feel sick to his very core; why did it seem like she was actually speaking to him this time and about something he had no prior knowledge about? Her words made the gentle breeze of the meadow feel heavy, and the intense feeling of being watched consumed his senses, and it nearly felt like someone had pierced through his heart.
“Wake up,” she stated.
It was then that the sickening feeling became stronger, and his right hand soon found itself against his throat before he coughed harshly into the grass in front of him. His eyes widened once he saw the black liquid that had exited his mouth.
“Wake up, Majesty,” the mysterious girl repeated in front of him.
For some reason, he couldn’t stop himself from coughing up more of that black liquid into the grass. “My throat feels like it’s on fire, I f-feel like I might pass out, but this is just a dream, i-isn’t, so why do I feel so,” Majesty thought to himself as the girl in front of him started to fade out into the darkness and before long his entire vision had gone black, and it was then a loud voice that yelled his name brought him back to reality.
“Majesty, wake up!” the voice yelled at him before whoever this was started shaking his shoulders to try and wake him up. His vision was blurry, and all he could hear was his heavy breathing and heartbeat pounding in his ears.
“St-stay away from me,” he said in a panic before his breathing started to calm down once his vision started to clear up, and he saw it was Amethyst knelt in front of him with a concerned look on her face.
“I’m sorry, I just had a really bad dream that I couldn’t seem to wake up from. Thanks for checking up on me, and sorry if I scared you,” He said with a soft chuckle of relief before he placed a hand to his face as if to try to calm himself down and remind himself that he was no longer in that dream.
“That’s some kind of nightmare, don’t you think? I’m surprised you didn’t wake up anyone else. You first started jolting a lot in your sleep, and then you started talking gibberish in a panicked voice before you yelled out stay away from me, well on second thought, maybe you did wake up someone else besides me,” Amethyst said as her dark purple eyes stared at him intently as she started to analyze him as if trying to figure out something to answer a question she wasn’t telling him.
“Really, I’m okay now. It really was just a bad dream, besides don’t you and Tanzanite have them, too, every so often?” Majesty said in a low voice as he looked over at her.
“Sure, but you really sounded like you were in distress, but if you really claim you’re alright, then I’m going to head back to sleep,” she said in a soft tone before she got up; it was then she stopped in her tracks when Majesty suddenly took hold of her left hand.
“Please don’t tell anyone about this, especially not Lapis. I really don’t…wanna concern them with something small like a nightmare; I mean, they have enough to worry about,” Majesty said to her in a pleading voice.
“Fine, just this once, but if I see you flip out again, I won’t promise that I won’t tell them next time,’ she said with a smile, and it was then she could see the relief on his face, and it was then he let go of her hand.
“Oh, and believe me, I wouldn’t wanna worry your girlfriend; if I told her, then she wouldn’t stop pestering you,” Amethyst said with a playful grin on her face.
She didn’t have to see his face to know that he was blushing when she brought up the fact that Lapis was his girlfriend.
“She isn’t my girlfriend! Also, now I regret thanking you for keeping my nightmare a secret,” Majesty complained to her.
“Righttttt, you just spend a lot of time together as friends; sounds like a good excuse to me,” Amethyst said before she heard Majesty to tell her to keep her voice down before she playfully laughed at him.
But he couldn’t blame Amethyst for being concerned about him. But, even having woken up, that didn’t change the feeling that remained with him from that dream. Don’t go to what, and who was he that was watching them? But, with the Masquerade event coming up, this dream would fade out into the back of his mind.
“Now that he’s found you, and now that he has. He won’t let you out of his sight!”
