The Sun's Daughter

A Bad Day

A Bad Day

Jul 09, 2023

It was midday and the girl was walking around the village. In yet another colorful partnered dress. This time it was pink and blue, it was a simple tight a line halter dress. Her hair was in a simple puff and she wore a gold bangle on her upper right arm. To her side was a wagon pulled by a man, trying to show his devotion to her. Despite her already turning him down numerous times, he still helped her when she made her rounds.

Once a week she came to the village to deliver teas and herb packages to the women in the village. It was her only source of income, but it was enough. She liked tending to a garden and helping the women of this town... most of the time. She had already given most of the packages and was on her way to the seamstress' house. She was stopped by one of the girls her age. They were all wearing dresses like one she wore two weeks ago.

"You're here again" "and in the middle of the day no less" the girls giggled to themselves. "Do you enjoy being that dark" another said, they giggled again. The girl had no interest in what they were saying and was walking away when another said, "the prince is with the seamstress." "Guess the shock value faded" they all laughed again. "Well, that's good heavens know I have my hands full" the girls quieted down, annoyed by her words and the truth behind them. "Still the seamstress is a much better choice than you" "Celia does it still burn to pee?" the girl asked. Celia went mute, her face redden. The girl walked away from them.

"I'm sorry I did not defend you" her campion said. She shook her head "it is fine." "It is my battle after all." She gave him a small smile. Truthfully, it was not fine but she was used to this. The men in this village will hoot and holler her name but never defend her or treated her right. Yet, she could not complain they always gave her the best dresses.

They had finally made it to the seamstress's store/ home. She knocked on the wooden door. To her surprise the prince opened it. Her skin went cold when she saw the flash of anger on the prince's face, but it was quickly replaced with a cold and arrogant smile.

"WHO IS IT?" the seamstress shouted.

"NO ONE MY DEAR" the prince shouted back. The girl was in no mood to shout and so she handed the small box she brought for the seamstress. "Please give this to her." The prince took the box and her hands. "What you are not here for me? After I coldly left you for another?"

That was another thing the men in this village did often. They always choose another girl eventually. Even her campion was married with two kids and a mistress.

"I am not here for you I am here to deliver something. Now that I have, I will be on my way." Even still the prince would not let her go. His eyes searched her face looking for an ounce of emotions for him. He found none. She truly was a cruel women.

Almost unannounced the seamstress was at the door pushing the prince back. Her eyes landed on the girl. "What are you doing here?" she said with ice in her voice. The girl was taken aback "I came to deliver what I promised."

"You sure you are not here to try and win the prince? You could be using the package as an excuse" "It is Wednesday, I always make deliveries on Wednesday" the girl said in a fatigue matter. This day was becoming more troubling by the minute, "would you rather I not bring the cream for your-" the seamstress put her hand over the girl's mouth. "It's fine just leave now." The girl did not move. The seamstress looked at her. "Payment?" she said and held out her hand.

The seamstress looked at the prince. Her face had gone red. She walked back into the house and towards a closet. The seamstress had pulled out the dress the girl wore on the first day the prince meet her. He was right the dress the seamstress was wearing was a copy. Awkwardly the seamstress made her way back to them and handed over the dress. "It should fit better now." The girl nodded and walked away.

---

The prince chased after her. "There was no need for you to embarrass her like that." The girl sighed and stopped walking. She did not face the prince but waited for him to catch up to them. When he did, she started walking again. "And how did I embarrass her?" "You asked for the dress knowing I was there, and you started talking about personal matters" "PERSONAL MATTERS?" she laughed dryly "I'm sure it is not as personal as what you two were up to, and how would me asking for MY dress embarrass her?"

The prince's face heated "why act like she wasn't wearing a copy of your dress and selling it to others?" "SO WHAT?" the girl said, irritation finally getting the best of her. Her campion looked at her shocked. He had never seen her so aggressive, so emotional. He did not like this side of her and thought to himself he dodged a bullet by marrying another. The prince unfazed by her words said, "it was uncalled for."

"uncalled for?" she repeated while laughing. She stopped now and looked to the prince. That was the other thing about men in this village. They chased her but never defended her, when they got tried, they found another girl and when they did, they bashed her for not being "nicer." In the end it was always about them and their fragile ego.

"All I'm saying is you could be nicer." The girl rolled her eyes and kept walking, leaving the prince behind. Her campion followed but he had seen a side to her he did not like. She was too aggressive. "what was that about" he finally said. She looked at him confused. "You were very aggressive to him; he is still your prince." She sighed.

The day was truly becoming more troubling by the minute.
