“Which side?”
“Either’s fine,” Charlotte says, shuffling her feet nervously in her spot at the end of the bed.
“Are you okay? We don’t have to do this if you don’t want to.”
“No, no I’m fine. It’s just, the nightmares. I’m worried I’ll scare you.” Charlotte says sitting down at the foot of the bed.
“You won’t. Worry me, definitely. Scare me, no.” Lilith says kneeling down in front of Charlotte, taking the other woman’s hands in hers.
“What if I kick or scream-“
“Then you kick or you scream. It won’t bother me.” Lilith smiles cupping Charlotte’s jaw in her hand.
“But-“
“No buts. If I get scared I get scared. Seeing someone so strong suddenly scared can scare the shit out of you, not because they scare you but because they’re your supergirl and suddenly they’re facing their kryptonite and you can’t do a damn thing about it except shoo it away and comfort them. But I’m not going anywhere.” Lilith finishes sternly, she really wasn’t going anywhere. If anyone needed to worry about the other leaving it was her. “Now, big spoon or little spoon?”
“What if I have a nightmare?” Lilith frowned, confused on why that would be a problem, “If I have a nightmare you are most definitely getting punched or kicked.”
“Soooo, little spoon?” Charlotte rolled her eyes with a smile.
“West perimeter is compromised!”
“Send more men!” Charlotte yelled as loud as she could, the sound of fire ball after fire ball impacting with the ground nearly making her unheard.
“We’ve sent as many men as we can spare, if we send anymore our line will weaken,” the sergeant reported, ducking instinctively as a fireball impacted mere inches from them.
Charlotte grimaced, she would have to send in some poor men and women. Men and women who had families, wives, husbands…or she could send in someone with enough skill and strength to account for 10 people. “I’ll go, tell the lieutenant it’s his call now.” Charlotte hollers running towards the west line sword in hand, not waiting for a response or a nod in recognition that he heard her.
She hadn’t killed 10 angels before it happened, she had gotten ambushed. She felt the sword plunge into her stomach then suddenly with a jolt she was awake. As it always was. Stab then awake. A sudden hand on her arm shooed away any sleep left as she grabbed the offending hand by the wrist. “It’s me. Are you okay?” A calming voice asked, a second hand coming seemingly out of nowhere to run its fingers through her hair. It’s me? Who’s…
“Lilith?” Charlotte squeaked out, sleep still soaking her voice.
“Hi,” the redhead smiled down at her companion.
“Did I-“
“You just mumbled and jolted.” Lilith says reassuringly. Charlotte nods, relieved that she hadn’t hurt the woman she loves. The woman she loves, when did that happen? Damn, she really was falling in love. Charlotte’s unconscious chuckle brought a chuckle out of her companion, “What?”
“I love you,” Charlotte laughs.
“And that’s funny?” Lilith smiles.
“Yeah. You wormed your way into my heart despite my better efforts.” Charlotte says rolling to face Lilith.
“I did, didn’t I?” Lilith smiled proudly.
“You did.” Charlotte smiles. They lay there staring into each other's eyes for a moment slowly inching towards each other, “Are you going to say it back?”
“I love you.” Lilith mumbled against Charlotte’s lips. Her tongue gently asked for permission to enter only to have an equally curious tongue gently enter without asking. For a moment their tongues danced together, Charlotte leaving a few pecks on Lilith’s lips before pulling away.
“We should go back to sleep. We only have four more hours before we have to get up.”
“Please, Charlotte. One more kiss,” Lilith says, her lips brushing along Charlotte’s jaw line.
“One more. Then we sleep.” Charlotte chuckled. She was going to be the death of her.
