"An outfit? That's all you need?" Jacquelyn asked skeptically. "That's the easiest spell in the book."
Ella nodded, "I completely forgot that the king's festival had a dress code."
The girls sat next to one another in a small clearing in the woods next to the hut that Jacquelyn had created using spells that were incredibly more advanced then clothing. Ella leaned her head on the witch's shoulder and took her hand.
"I have been wanting to go to this ball for years and now that I'm finally old enough, I can't go!" She sobbed into Jacquelyn's shirt. "And this year is even more spectacular because the prince is looking for a wife! That's the reason why they extended it to three days rather then two, to give him time to fall in love." Despite talking about a person who wasn't herself, Ella nearly wailed at the last part.
"I thought you didn't like to share what bothered you?" Jacquelyn inquired.
"I don't." Ella said slowly. She looked up and her eyes met her friend's. "I suppose I feel comfortable around you." Ella's grey eyes gazed into the dark green eyes of Jacquelyn, and they just stared at one another.
Jacquelyn was the first to look away, "what kind of dress did you want?"she asked.
"A yellow one!" Ella responded smiling. "With lots of ruffles! No, scratch that. No ruffles. Maybe layers? Yeah, that sounds good."
The witch laughed and waved her hand, making an image of a light yellow dress appear in the air in front of them.
"It's beautiful!" Ella gasped.
"Anything you would like to change?" Jacquelyn asked.
Eying the spectral image, Ella tapped her chin. "Maybe some pockets?" She said. Jacquelyn laughed and complied to the request, making the dress have concealed pockets. "Some lace maybe?" Lace was added. "I take back my earlier statement, I want some ruffles!" Ruffles were added in abundance. "Pearls may look nice on the neckline and sleeves..." pearls were attached.
After a few minutes like that made the dress looked more like a twelve-year-old compiled every single Disney princess's dress and came out with the ultimate design. Of course, neither girl knew what Disney was as the princesses in this story are based after the original stories and not the Disney adaptations.
Eventually Ella came to a decision with the gown. It was the same design as it had started. Ella then realized, she didn't know how to dance! Luckily, Jacquelyn had been having lessons since she was small. The reason for her lessons is because her father was a nobleman so she was taught the traditions and customs of the nobility as well as the culture of the witches.
"Come here, I'll show you." Jacquelyn said.
Ella beamed and stood in front of her. "What do I do?"
"Just follow my lead." She responded. She put her hand on Ella's waist and Ella put her own hand on Jacquelyn's waist, though it crept a tad bit lower. "No, your hand goes on my shoulder." Jacquelyn corrected. Ella corrected her grip and the witch used her other hand to take Ella's. The picture below is about how their stances would look. I do not own the pic, I found it online.
The two swayed, their faces closer together then they had ever been. Jacquelyn started showing Ella some different moves, box step, the waltz, etc. Ella wasn't as fast a learner as would have been desired but Jacquelyn made do. It was difficult to show Ella how to move grace as she had always been a rather clumsy girl and could often be caught slumping.
Jacquelyn thought that the dance lessons would be a good time to talk so she said, "why do you want to meet the prince? (Point your toes.)"
"(Like this?) He's royalty! Who wouldn't want to meet him?" Ella responded. "Plus, I hear he's handsome to boot."
"Didn't you say he's looking for a wife? (Relax your shoulders.)"
"I did, but I don't think I'm interested in that." Ella said. "(How am I supposed to relax, we're so close together!)"
"Why wouldn't you want to marry the prince?" The witch asked. ("I'm as close to you as they'll be, you had better get used to it.")
"Well, if I were to marry royalty then I would have to deliver an heir, and as I said before, I don't want to have sex with a man." Ella revealed. "(They won't have breasts pushing against me!)"
"I understand now. That's smart thinking, Ella. I probably wouldn't have remembered that royalty absolutely needs sex in marriage. (I'm sorry, I didn't realize it was making you uncomfortable.)" Jacquelyn said the last part while adding an extra inch of room between the two.
"No!" Ella said quickly. "(You're not making me uncomfortable.) And anyway, marriage usually does mean sex. There are few men who don't want it, it seems." Ella pulled the witch back so that they were in their previous position and somehow she then pulled her even closer so that their bodies were pressed tight against the other's.
"If you get married you could always get your husband a mistress or claim to be barren." Jacquelyn said.
"That would only work for a while, he would want to have sex wether or not I can have a child. Sex is usually for pleasure. Trust me."
"How would you know?" Jacquelyn asked. "It's not as if you go out and hook up with random girls."
Ella didn't reply.
"You do hook up with random girls!" The witch exclaimed. "How many?"
"I've lost count." Ella muttered.
"Have you hooked up while I've been here?"
"No." Ella responded.
"Do you want to sleep with someone?" Jacquelyn asked.
"Definitely."
"Anyone in mind?"
"it's a secret."
Jacquelyn pouted and the two continued clumsily dancing.
