She stretched out on the wet pavement, raindrops falling from the dark clouds above.
Lit by only the faint streetlights and the bright glow of the moon, she looked up to see him standing over her, with a soft smile.
How did it come to this, she wondered?
He curled up next to her, and she couldn't help but giggle.
He was drenched in the rain, as was she. Slowly, a giggle turned into a laugh, and he couldn't help but begin to laugh too. She rolled over onto her side and squeezed him with a tight hug, still laughing.
After a few moments, both of their fits of laughter died out, and they were left silently cuddled up on the ground. He gently pushed her back and gave her a wide grin before hopping up to his feet, brushing the extra water off of his clothes.
"Follow me!" he exclaimed, holding out his hand to help pull her up.
She stared up at him for a few seconds, examining his face. He was smiling, and small raindrops were sliding down from his hair onto his face. His eyes were practically sparkling as he looked at her softly.
"Alright, let's go," she replied.
He grabbed her hand carefully and pulled her up, before grasping her hand in a tight hold. They walked hand in hand for a while, as he occasionally glanced back at her, beaming with joy. After a while, the walk came to a stop in the middle of the woods. He smiled and pointed up to a small treehouse, perched up high in a tall tree. Still tightly grasping her hand, he led her up the stairs and into the little house.
To her surprise, the treehouse looked nothing like the outside, or anything she would have suspected.
It was covered with severed body parts.
He grinned from ear to ear, and stared back at her, with a murderous look in his eyes.
