Mayumi's eyes fluttered open, sun shone in from the glass doors leading to the patio. She sat up and rubbed her eyes, walking over to the bathroom and using her finger as a toothbrush, she brushed her teeth and rinsed her face. Because she was still drowsy, she wasn't as aware of her situation as she thought she was.
Mayumi walked downstairs and went to the kitchen, making herself some toast. She sat down at the big dining table and just sat there eating.
"Mornin'" Simon greeted, Mayumi nodded and kept eating. Her eyes still half closed. Simon grabbed himself a bowl of cereal and sat beside Mayumi. "How was your sleep?" Simon asked, Mayumi thought for a sec.
"It was good." She responded looking over at Simon. That's when she fully woke up. Simon was shirtless and wet, he had taken a shower. Mayumi noticed a few scratches over his body and she wondered what happened. Simon noticed her looking and he grinned mischievously.
"Like what you see?" He asked teasingly, Mayumi quickly looked away. He petted her hair and comfortable silence filled the room once more. The two enjoyed their food. Crunching and nomming, it was nice.
"How was your sleep?" Mayumi asked, breaking the silence. Simon's expression twisted awkwardly. Mayumi was left confused at his grumbles.
"I didn't get much sleep." He answered and kept eating. Mayumi wondered if it had been her fault, but there's no way. Why would it be her fault? He's the one who left.
Mayumi checked her phone, seeing the news, Vex had another harsh battle late last night. The girl in the gothic lolita dress was there once more but this time she was not alone, a large man in a green suit with a smiling mask was seen. Mayumi scowled, after meeting Vex she felt so bad. He looked so beat up in the photos. Simon looked over and grasped his arm. Mayumi noticed but of course, anyone who saw this article would feel pitiful. Our hero was up against opponents that seemed ever so impossible to beat.
"I wish I could just tell Vex it'll all be alright again. He works so hard for us… we all rely on him. I just hope he has someone to rely on as well." Mayu whispered, Simon's eyes softened, he covered the bottom half of face. Mayumi then checked her messages, Tala had responded. Mayumi opened their chat and instantly closed it, she then opened it again. Tala had sent a photo reply of her and Yogi cuddling.
Mayumi was no stranger to photos like that from Tala, this one just took her off guard for some reason. Mayumi looked at Simon and leaned on him, making a peace sign and then snapping a picture that she then sent to Tala. Tala responded very quickly.
«Did you have a fun night?» her message read. Mayumi sent a quick yes and told her she'll detail the night later she also made sure to outline the fact that they did NOT have sex. Simon looked over and snickered, causing Mayumi to shove him.
Their food was finished and it was 1 pm. Light was shining in through the windows, it was a beautiful sight. The big city was made of mostly monochromatic colours against the big open blue sky. Mayumi wished she could just live there but she was happy with her loft apartment. Of course, this penthouse was nice, but there was nothing more nice than a cosy warm house.
"I gotta get to a photoshoot soon, you know.. modelling and stuff. By the way, your legs look nice." Simon chuckled standing up and heading upstairs.
"YOU'RE A MODEL?!" Mayumi shouted, chasing after him.
"I thought you knew?"
"I ONLY KNEW YOUR MOM WAS MODEL–"
"Well I am."
That explains so much! She followed him up the stairs with furrowed brows. He just dropped that bombshell on her, so nonchalantly… She was going to wear the clothes from yesterday, they were clean enough. The two changed in separate rooms once more and then they were ready to leave.
"If you want, you can come to the photoshoot with me if you don't have anything else to do." Simon suggested, Mayumi looked at him wondering for a second. She noticed how nice he looked on his work clothes, a light blue turtleneck, a white blazer and white dress pants accessorised with a light blue belt that had a gold buckle.
"I'll come with you." She nodded, although her aesthetic didn't match his, it was streetwear so it was fine. She followed Simon down into the parking lot, there she was greeted with a nice black car.
"This is your car?" She asked, Simon nodded and opened the passenger side door, then got in himself. "This is a really nice car." Mayumi added. Simon smiled.
"Thank you, I like this car too. Her name's Marcy! We'll be heading to "Marcus Hugo's Workshop" and then I can drop you off at home." He stated, this morning he seemed a lot less playful. Mayumi shrugged it off, he was off to work of course he was going to be more serious.
★★★
They arrived at their destination and Simon had Mayumi sit down near the set since he had to go run around. He kissed Mayumi's forehead which made Mayu roll her eyes. She was used to that, Tala would kiss her forehead as a friendly sign of 'See ya!'. Yogi would simply poke her forehead. She thought for a second, 'Maybe I have a big forehead..?''
"You don't have a big forehead." Simon assured, Mayu furrowed her brows wondering how he knew, Simon simply put a finger up to his mouth and made his way to the makeup section. Mayumi took out her D-tablet and looked at Simon. This really was busy, people were running all over. Makeup, clothes, lighting, and cameras everywhere. Mayumi started looking through recipes for her project wondering what type of dessert she was going to make.
She was working until she noticed something… a white butterfly. It glowed familiarly. She felt the warm glow touch her cheeks. It fluttered up to her beckoning her to follow it. That she did. She followed as it drew her in. She passed many hallways, the busy scenery was now filled with a dark unbecoming basement. Nothing but boxes and darkness, the only light was the white glowing butterfly.
It kept flying, leading her far away from the noises of people. Somehow, she felt it. A beautiful and welcoming presence. She slowly crept closer, the white butterfly had disappeared behind a pile of boxes. She turned the corner and knelt down, there it was. A glowing beautiful butterfly necklace. It was bright and beautiful. There was a gem in the middle while it was lined with gold that were shaped like wings with small uniform black gems scattered about.
She slowly and gently picked it up, it felt like it was calling out to her. The aura she felt from it was telling her to take it, to put it on… that's exactly what she did. As she put on the necklace there was a huge beam of light and then nothing. Mayumi had closed her eyes and fallen to the ground.
"Hello?" A small voice called out. Mayumi hummed. "Hello!!" The small voice shouted. It was high pitched and a little quiet.
Mayumi opened her eyes, and screamed.
What met her when she opened her eyes was a small.. person? A fairy of sorts. Mayumi scooted away but the small person came closer. The thing resembled a chibi she had seen on the internet, big round head with big eyes but this one had wings. A real life fairy!
"U-u-uh erm a-ah uh-" Mayumi stammered, fidgeting around and adjusting her collar. She didn't know what to say. This was like a dream.
Maybe it's because I went to sleep so late-
"Hiya! I'm Junko, your one and only Vœu!" The fairy shouted. Mayumi looked at it and examined it closer. It was two colours, black and white. Its entirety except for its skin was split down the middle. The right side being white and the left being black. The eyes, the hair, they were cutely coloured. It seemed to be sporting a cute clown get up, a little apron with a big jester's hat. It had the poofy shorts and the funny pointed shoes.
Mayumi pinched her cheek, the situation she found herself in was very dreamlike. In fact, the past few days had been so dreamlike she wouldn't be surprised if she woke up and Simon had never existed. So she decided to play along.
"Uh so.. what's the purpose behind.. all this?" Mayumi asked, tilting her head while the entity floated around her. It seemed to stop and ponder for a moment.
"Well… I'm here.. to help YOU.. protect this city and the whole world!" Junko shouted. Mayumi's expression went dead and she sneered.
That's way too cliché there's no way this is actually happening…
She thought to herself, Junko danced around her happily. The little bell attached to their collar jingled a joyful tune.
"So.. so I'm a hero now.. can I transform?" She asked unenthusiastically, she really didn't believe what was going on. There was no reason for her to believe. Junko nodded excitedly and took out a little sheer cloth. One that circus performers port.
"Just say
The moon shone down that fateful day,
It was us against the world, the blackness encroached and it was ever darker and darker.
I turned to my side but I could not longer see him, I could no longer hear him, I could no longer feel him.
Anguish in my soul erupted into a colourful flurry of enormous destruction.
I had to be the light in the dark even though I had lost mine. It was frightening and not once did I understand the true feeling of isolation until I had lost him.
He was the catalyst and I was the effect, it was my responsibility to protect the world with which he loved.
Dear Goddess of the moon please lend me your power, today I will use it to save the world.
Just like that!" Junko finished with a large innocent smile on her face. Mayumi stood there dumbfounded, there was no way she was going to remember all of that, nonetheless even some of that.
"Is there any way we could make that shorter..?" She asked, looking down at the glowing necklace around her neck. Junko froze and thought for a little bit, then hit their fist against their hand and waved it around.
"Just say
Goddess of the moon please lend me your power.
It should work just the same."
Mayumi sighed wondering why Junko couldn't have just said that first but it was fine. Still believing she was in a dream world, Mayumi lifted her head to look at the basement ceiling and grumbled:
"Goddess of the moon please lend me your power."
Mayumi's necklace glowed ever so brightly, sparkling and becoming blinding. Mayumi found herself feeling changes to her body, clothes, eyes, hair. It all changed. She couldn't see it, she could only feel it for the time being. It was like a metamorphosis, she felt the warmth all around her as she changed, her body elegantly floating in a space that she couldn't see. She kept her eyes closed so as not to lose her vision to the blinding light.
Somehow, her eyes naturally fluttered open. Mayumi looked down, she was sporting the same outfit as Junko. She thought that the outfit was cute and all but she didn't feel like it suited her.
Wow… this can't be real..
Mayumi thought when her thought was interrupted.
It very much is!
Junko had responded to Mayumi's thoughts.. Mayu panicked not knowing how this was even possible.
Are you inside my head? Mayumi asked, Junko chuckled.
No silly, we merged together! I'm you, you're me, and we'll save the world! Junko shouted once more. Mayumi started to panic even more. It all felt too real to be a dream. That's when her phone beeped, a message appeared. One from a number she'd never seen before. Even weirder was her notification noise wasn't even a beep, it was a ring.
"Emergency incoming, hurry to Laurabelle street Class B emergency." It read, Junko pushed her to hurry to Laurabelle street, Mayumi listened. No matter the anxiety building up in her stomach she was going to help out.
Once she reached the street which was luckily not so far away, she noticed Vex was already there. There, he was fighting the masked man and the girl once more. All too familiar villains. Mayumi started breathing heavily, some may even call it hyperventilating.
Come on Mayumi, you have to do this. Just think about it. Junko reassured her, it helped her calm down a little bit but not a lot. What did Junko mean by 'think about it'? Think about what?
You see how everyone has unique abilities, it's because of their vœux, what's your vœu? Junko asked, Mayumi had no clue how to answer.
What's your wish Mayumi! You have to have at least one! Hurry, Vex is getting tired! Junko pressed. Mayumi's eyes darted everywhere. She couldn't think straight if her mind kept wandering.
Her eyes reached Vex. It was a huge shot to the heart once she saw how dishevelled he looked. She had to do something, she had to help. She decided to help the only way she knew how to.
Being a reassuring mood lightener.
