"Okay, here we are," the woman said. I looked around, and our white room suddenly turned a dull gray.
"Where is here?" I asked. She let out a small groan, floated behind me, and slipped her arms under my arms, wrapping them around my chest. She leaned closer, whispering to me to hold tight, and suddenly, the ground was no longer there as we started to fly.
I intensively grabbed the blanket around my waist as we started to fly. There was no form of direction of where we were going until I saw a door in the distance. We made it in front of the door, and she snapped her finger, causing the door to swing open. I tried to look inside to ensure it was safe, but she decided I was taking too long to get in and tossed me inside. I landed inside with a hard thud, groaning, flipping onto my back, and slowly opening my eyes to be met with her amber ones.
"You doing okay there, champ?" She asked. I felt like the wind was knocked out of me, and she practically beamed at me. This girl is nuts.
"I have a name, you know," I said. She only shrugged at me and floated away. Guess it doesn't matter. I got up to my feet, adjusted my blanket, looking around the room I was thrown into.
"Welcome to limbo," She said, landing on a worn, patched-up couch.
"What is limbo?" I asked, tightening the blanket around my waist.
"Here, you are going to need this," She said, throwing me some clothes.
"Thanks," I said. I slipped on the pants she gave me, and I looked at the bright blue shirt with a kitten that said, hang in there. What the hell is this?
"So, to answer your question, limbo is a place that is between life and death. A being like myself can travel to limbo with ease." She said, snapping he fingers, and a cup appeared in her hand with a bubbly orange liquid inside.
"So what was that place just in?" I asked.
"Limbo," She said.
"So, what is this place?" I asked.
"Well, this is still limbo, but this is like my home away from home when I need to escape." She said.
"Okay, so where is your home?" I asked, and the light in her eyes faded for a bit.
"Well, that is a loaded question. Let's say that I am not from your era," She said. I tossed the odd shirt onto the table and sat with her on the couch.
"And what era are you from?" I asked.
"The 21st century," She said.
"Really? So why are you here?" I asked.
"Well, I have been doing a service guiding souls to the next life, but you are my last soul, and I am technically free from my contract and I can do whatever I want, but there is a downside to it," She said, taking a long sip of her drink.
"And that is? "I asked. She huffed and placed her cup down, facing me.
"I have to live my life in the era with the last soul I guided, but by some weird chance, you get to relive your life. So my mission has changed, and I have to make sure that you don't end up like the man you were before," She said.
"So I get a second chance at life?" I asked.
"Yea, that is what I just said," She said, taking another long sip.
I felt my heart thumping hard in my chest at the news. I can't believe I was given another chance to right the wrongs I have made in my past life. Unfortunately, my celebration was short-lived when I received sudden pain in my head. I clutched my head, and memories from my last life came rushing in. Every flaw and mistake I made made me tremble in pain. I fell to my knees, groaning as the memories flashed even faster. I heard this woman calling my name, but I couldn't respond because the pain was just too unbearable. Suddenly the memories stopped, and the pain disappeared when I felt myself slip into a deep sleep.
My wife and friend betrayed me and let them turn me into a tyrant just to be stabbed in the back. I got a second chance at life this time, and I will not waste it. This time I will make sure I don't turn into the tyrant they want me to be and Be a fair ruler. That won't be hard, right?
