-tp-tp-tp- It’s back!
The noise came from a distance. I spent quite some time looking around to find it, but I couldn’t find anything. After searching around, I decided to come back to the desk only to find a little friend sitting on top. At the sound of my footsteps, the black majestic creature instantly turned its head and flashed its gem-like green eyes into my face. I stopped in my steps so as to not scare the beautiful animal.
“I seem to find you a lot in my path.”
However, the black didn’t seem spooked, instead it looked quite calm. I approached further to see how it would react and the cat stayed in its spot.
“Are you not scared of me anymore?”
At that statement, the cat turned its head and jumped off the desk. It walked away with poise.
“You’re prideful, that’s for sure.”
I came back to the book at question and decided to give it a read. Thanks to the results of the previous experiments, I wasn’t too hopeful about the ancient texts, yet life proved me wrong.
The book showed examples of six different texts, each unique to the five core elements. The sixth was an anomaly. There was no explanation behind its origins or what it was used for. Most of the content was either blacked out, ripped out, or just discontinued. I searched around the other books but it was the same in all of them. What is it that they are trying to hide so badly?
I set aside the texts for now and finally got to work. Cleaning up 5000 books is no joke.
………
“Felix! Are you there?”
“Yes Master, you called?”
I spent almost ten days sorting out the books and now I only have around 200 or so left. In the meantime, I tried to get my head around the Enchanted Library. As its Master, I lacked a lot of knowledge about it. Felix taught me all kinds of things, the library’s structure, the creators, the kinds of books it held and also how to access it. As the Master of the Library, the key works as a teleportation gate. If I wish to enter the Library all I have to do is lift the key, point it somewhere and say, “Open!” A blue gate appears right in front of me, though It looks more like a portal. And when I enter it, Voila! Here I am, inside the Enchanted Library.
I used the Enchanted Library as a reference for organising the Duke’s Library. The books were all perfectly organised so that there was no hassle in finding the right books. In the past ten days. The butler never once visited to see the progress. He was keeping his word in saying that he was only going to come by in 15 days exactly. Other than that, there was only one other issue to address.
I walked back to the entrance of the library, on the left side, I saw a basket put outside the window. I walked up to the window and took the basket in. Inside there were fruits, sandwiches and a little glass bottle of milk. This was the issue. Judging by the timing, this person knows about the servants’ lunch hours and also what kind of food I like. It’s obvious who’s behind this.
The following day, the window did not have a basket placed there. After waiting a couple of minutes, at the exact second of lunch hour, a hand popped up and put the basket atop the window cill. I walked up to the window and grabbed their hand before they left. “Charlotte, what are you doing?”
A young girl with a neat bun tied behind her, looked up at me in surprise.
“Kai! Why are you here?” she exclaimed. The sleeve of the hand I grabbed slipped down her arm and large black bruises appeared on her skin.
“Wait! What is this!” I asked with an angered tone. The girl was surprised by my reaction and pulled her hand back. She pulled her sleeve over trying to cover her bruises. Her eyes jolted around in panic, “It’s nothing, haha.” she said anxiously.
“What do you mean nothing! Those bruises- Did someone hit you!?” My voice got louder out of concern, and the girl slapped her hand onto my face.
“shhhhhhh! What are you doing screaming!” She whispered.
“Why are you worried, this place is isolated, no one comes around here.” Her concern for the noise was confusing. She was anxiously trying to hide and stay quiet almost like someone was following her. And upon my suspicion, the bushes across from the window suddenly started shaking. “GASP!” The young girl was alarmed by the bushes and nervously looked around a place to hide. Seeing her look so afraid, I pulled her into the window and told her to hide inside the library somewhere. The girl instantly obeyed my advice and ran into the aisles. I hid behind the wall and peeked over to see what was there. The bushes continued shaking until a face popped out from behind them. AH! That’s-
“Where’d she go!? That b*tch! Does she think she can just run away from me after hitting me like that!?” I looked closely at his face and saw a red mark across his cheek. A slap? Don’t tell me!
Did Charlotte slap him because he beat me up? Even though I told her to leave me alone? Why did she!?
“Ah, Jack look!”
A second boy abruptly stood up from behind the bushes. His expression looked strangely pale. He nervously started backing up from something. From my perspective, I couldn’t see what exactly scared him so much. Both of the boys slowly started backing up out of fear and eventually ran away. I waited a couple of more seconds for a black furry creature to walk out in front of the bushes.
“Eh! Nero!?”
The black cat jolted its head back and glared at me. PFFFTT!!!!
After all those moments together, I decided to call him Nero, and I will continue to do that because his reaction makes me laugh every time.
“Nero, what are you doing here?” The cat huffed and walked away.
Hhahahha, oh I’m never changing it!
