The rest of the train ride went smoothly. Elyn continued to get lost in the world of her precious books, and Toll Keeper enjoyed the scenery they briefly passed by. Honestly, he was feeling a bit giddy; part of him was eager to find out what Elyn’s Elysium would be. There were countless possibilities. TollKeeper as Elyn went back to his book, still too excited to concentrate on the story in front of him.
"Do you have one?" Elyn asked, breaking him out of his thoughts.
With a quick portal summon, Toll Keeper pulled out what Elyn could only describe as one of the most beautiful pieces of craftsmanship she has ever seen. The spear itself looked like it was forged by The Old Ones themselves. The wood was as smooth and shiny as gold itself, and the arrow head was made of the finest and strongest metals that Adamas had to offer.
"This is Moonlight Beacon," Toll Keeper answered with as much enthusiasm as a child showing their parents a new and interesting thing they found. With another portal, he quickly put the weapon back.
"Moonlight Beacon." Elyn repeated that, for a brief moment, her attention was focused on what type of Elyisum she would summon. She, of course, like most people her age, wanted something cool—maybe a bow and arrow or throwing knives; a spear would be fantastic as well.
"After Mica, I’ll teach you everything I know." Toll Keeper said this with a slight smile in his voice.
"Mommy!"
"I love you, Rebecca."
"What’s going on?"
Screams and cries could be heard throughout the fallen city of Mica, the one great mechanical wonderland. In only one short hour, the city was completely destroyed. Piles of corpses stacked up as the mechanical citizens did their best to give the humans a proper funeral.
Mayday, Mayday, we’re being attacked. Please send help asap." A tired voice called out on the train station; unfortunately, their attempts were useless as the radio towers, the same towers built by Theodore Mica himself, were gone. The person knew that, of course, but in desperate circumstances,we tend to forget common sense.
Without their human creators, the poor mechanical citizens of Mica City did not know what to do; after all, they lived on order and command. A mechanical citizen needed some form of input to live. Around a half hour later, some began to wind down, others froze in the spot where their human last stood, and some of the lucky few walked away, headed towards the entrance to this once great city.
"Elly dear, shall we explore and see what type of nourishment we can inquire about?" Toll Keeper asked, getting up and placing his book down.
Elyn smiled a bit; she was quite surprised that she was in such a calm state. On the one hand, her journey to find Elias seemed pointless over the years. What if another guardian found him first? Getting her brother to Famuria was the important thing; it didn’t matter where his guardian led him, but Elyn desperately wanted it; she needed that position to go to her. Then there was the information about the Adroks. King Elzra briefly described them in the current chapter she was reading, but since her grandparents time, no one has seen or heard of one.
‘Your brother is safe; he still has a chance to pass on.’
Yes, as long as Elias was pure and didn’t turn into one of those monstrosities, everything would be fine, even dandy.
The tollkeeper did seem slightly concerned.’
"Why yes, my good sir, let us go on this much-needed quest." Elyn chuckled, shaking the negative thoughts that formed in her head.
With the train cat door open, the pair left with a nice skip and jig to inquire about some much-needed tasty food.
