One clone approached Osir while the second stood behind. Osir placed his arms in front, ready for the attack. The clone tried to punch him but Osir dodged his attack and hit him in the ribs with an elbow. It looked like it hurt but the clone didn’t stop just because of some pain. He swung his arm at him. The boy ducked down and hit him in the knee. He was going to punch the clone in the face once it would lean forward but the clone grabbed his fist. Osir was too weak to break free from his grasp. With pure force, he was able to pin the boy to the ground.
-Is that all?- Asked the bald man as he watched his clone win against Osir.
The boy remained silent watching his surroundings. The second clone that was watching and waiting for his turn suddenly collapsed. The clone that pinned down Osir looked away to see the other clone on the ground. That was enough time for Osir to break free and kick him in the back of the head. Both clones were down on the ground.
-That’s all?- Asked Osir without any emotions yet it felt like he was provoking the man in front of him.
-I think that’s enough. But if it was a fight on a battlefield you would die. Your enemy won’t wait for your turn. Keep that in mind kid.- Said the bald man as he left the room.
A tall man wearing a grey coat and green scarf walked into the room. The scarf was of the same color as his eyes and the curly dark brown hair that gave a distinctive appearance to a young man.
-It’s nice to meet you Osir. I’ll be your classroom teacher. My name is Professor Olsen. Starting tomorrow you’ll be a student of class one C. Follow me. I’ll give you a basic tour of our school.
For the first time since landing in this city, Osir looked calm and thoughts of escaping and fighting his way out were covered by the kind talk of his teacher. Professor showed Osir the inside of the school. All classrooms on the first floor looked exactly the same. Olsen didn’t show higher levels since the first years only work on the first floor. He also showed the cafeteria and locker room.
-And I never recommend skipping breakfast on Friday since they give more sweets like cookies or…
-What I’m going to learn here?- Asked Osir, bored by the information that Olsen told him about the cafeteria.
-Ah… Yes… For the first half of the year, you’ll learn about Espers and develop your abilities. After that, you’ll choose what specialization you want but if you’re suitable for other roles you’ll take them as subclasses. Oh, and there might be a bit of an age gap in your class since there are students from fourteen to sixteen years old.- Explained Olsen.
-Can you tell me what kind of school it is?
-This is a military school. We’re going to make you an Esper soldier. The most elite soldiers in the world.
Osir remained silent for the rest of the time. He didn’t oppose his situation but at the same time didn’t agree with it. He didn’t exactly have a plan for his life so he just followed the orders. Olsen also showed his room in the dormitory. A small room with one bed, a wardrobe, a desk, and a bookshelf above it.
-Take this- Said Olsen as he gave something to Osir.- That’s the phone that is compatible with our system and has your ID in it. If something comes up there will be a notification for you. See you tomorrow morning.
Osir looked out of the window. Seeing that night is coming, he lay on the bed and checked the phone. There was an ID with information like his name, blood type, the number of his class, and Esper rank “B”. There was a place for information like his surname and date of birth but there was only text saying “Censored”.
-Who am I?- Whispered Osir and provided to check the apps on the phone.
While he was looking at the schedule for this week he got a message from a contact named “Director Makinen”. At first, he was hesitant to open it but he didn’t have anything else to do.
I hope that the school is to your liking. I was thinking about our meeting today and thought that I didn’t say enough to make you want to stay with us. You probably saw that information about your surname and birth are classified. Even for you. The more you accomplish the more information we’ll reveal to you. Good luck on your first day!
Matias Makinen
Osir tightly clenched the phone but then stopped by the fear of breaking it. He knew he is using him but that information is the only thing, besides surviving, that drives him forward. With nothing more to do, he turned off the phone and went to sleep.
The ring that woke him up in the morning was unusual. It definitely wasn’t a default ring since it was someone signing but the sound of falling water in the shower was heard in the background. Like someone recorded it while hiding. From his window, he had a view of the school’s entrance. There was a stage built in front of it with chairs for students in front of it. Some students were already going there. Osir checked his phone and it showed that the ceremony will begin in twenty-six minutes.
Osir was just sitting not knowing what to do in the meantime but the growling stomach gave him the option. The dormitory had a small cafeteria for students with a buffet. Beside Osir there were a few new students but all eyes were on him.
-Why is everyone looking at me? Is there something on my head?- Thought Osir.
Even when he sat down and ate alone, everyone was watching him. It changed once a tall young man walked into the cafeteria. He has the same uniform as everyone but with a few additions like one shoulder cape with a silver chain and army peaked cap. The man had dark hair and green eyes that scanned the whole cafeteria. He has a scar left by a knife on his nose. Once he noticed Osir, he sat right in front of him.
-You must be the student recruited by Director Makinen. It’s pretty unusual for that to happen. You’re the second recruited that way. So you must be special.- Said the young man.
-Is that why everyone has their eyes on me?
-I think that’s more about your white hair.
-Who are you? Everyone looked away from me once you walked in.
-My name is Tobias Wagner. I was the first recruited by the director himself. I’m the third year so almost everyone knows me here. So what’s your name, special boy?
-My name is Osir.
Tobias got a notification from his phone. Once he checked it, he stood up and said -Looks like I have to go. See you later newbie.- Once Tobias left the cafeteria the eyes were on Osir again. Many people began leaving the cafeteria. Osir joined them and went to sit in front of the stage. He sat in the only free place he saw.
