Felix
Despite that unfortunate dig by my mom that I've never shadowed her - thanks Micah, by the way - my final week of summer was going great.
I ran with my friends, with my dad and brother - my dad mastered the art of carrying a backpack with his wolf so that we can get dressed after we shift back into humans, this way the family members can keep their modesty.
I hung out with Micah a lot. We talked about everything and I could sense how anxious he was for finding his mate. And he's not even at risk of losing Beta if he doesn't. I guess he just wanna get his girl ASAP, while I'm not much into girls, I can certainly relate to the feeling. And the anxiety.
I even managed to keep things good with Greg after that incident the other night. I felt bad for it and he was so nice about it. Sometimes I forget myself, but I don't mean any harm or would ever go past what's permitted.
But we did spend some quality time throughout the rest of the week. It was nice. I don't expect him to be my mate - it's never who we think it is - but I'd be totally fine if he were. I mean, have you seen him?
So, after some kissing, some fooling around, we ended up sleeping together, like most days this summer. It's always fantastic to feel his warmth next to me, not gonna lie. I love being so close to him.
"Hi." - I said as I approached him in the school yard.
"Hi, there." - He greets me with an annoyed expression on his face.
"Who are you?" - I asked him point blank, looking puzzled at his familiar features.
"Why do you want to know?" - He shot back in a snarky tone.
"I guess I'm just curious." - I replied, feeling a bit insecure.
"Well, that's nice. But I'm good, thanks." - He deadpans, not wanting to give me the time of day.
"Good with what?" - I questioned him, intrigued.
"With whatever this is." - He said, looking at me like I'm nothing.
"But I didn't say anything yet!" - I rebuked, peeved.
"I don't want to hear anything from you." - He retorted, still looking at me dismissively.
"But you don't even know me!" - I insisted, almost exasperating.
"And I don't want to. Get lost, freak!" - He brushed me off. I was left feeling gutted by the sudden rejection.
I woke up with Greg leaving my room early in the morning. He never needs an alarm clock. That kid is amazing! But who the fuck did I just dream with?
At the dining hall for breakfast, I take my seat at the table looking sleepy.
"Wow, son. Stayed late again last night? I hope you enjoyed it. That was the last time for a while!" - Dad looked at me menacingly. He and mom were eating pancakes. I took some bacon and eggs before they ran out and poured myself some orange juice.
"Dad, I'm going to school. Not jail." - I glared at him, slightly annoyed.
"Your dad is not wrong, though. Starting today, the party's over." - Mom said, looking at me like I had partied all night.
"Thanks, mom. The parties are always great here at Rutherford Falls. Land of the ragers." - I snickered, laughing at their remarks.
"You do look sleepy, brother." - Carol observed as she ate her food.
"I know, right? I just had a weird dream." - I spoke, watching my mom and dad gasp at my words.
Everybody looked at me gobsmacked.
"What? It's not what you're thinking!" - I told them dismissively.
"Who did you dream with?" - Mom asked, curiously.
"Yeah son, who is she?" - Dad asked and I just looked at him with wide eyes. Then I looked at my mom and we burst into laughter. Dad was mad at the both of us.
"She? Dad, are you blind?" - I snickered. Even my siblings were laughing at him. - "Wake up and smell the glitter!" - I joked.
"It was just a figure of speech!" - He barked at me, annoyed. Mom was laughing still.
"I don't want to talk about it. But it wasn't my mate, I'm sure of it." - I told them in a serious tone.
"Son, there's nothing you can tell us that's gonna make us think any less of you." - Mom said with a serious expression looking at me.
"I appreciate it, mom. But I still don't want to talk about it. It was just weird. I was talking to... someone I know, but he pretended he didn't. Like I said, it's strange." - I explained, feeling a bit uneasy.
"Come on, Felix. You can tell us. Who is he? Do we know him?" - Greg chimed in. I just glared daggers at him for a good minute till he became uncomfortable.
"Sorry I asked." - He muttered, awkwardly.
"Son, whoever he is, he'll be lucky to have you as his mate. Is he a wolf or..." - Mom trailed off. She was relentless.
"Mom, I'm not talking about it. That's final! OK?" - I raised my voice. My dad was just about to reprimand me but she stopped him by lifting her hand.
"I'm sorry, son, I didn't mean to push. Tell us whenever you're ready." - She told me with an understating tone.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to raise my voice. I'm just confused and not ready to talk about it. But I will as soon as I can." - I told her with an apologetic look. She caressed my hand.
Later, I went to Micah's house. His whole family was there as it's Sunday, but I asked to talk to him in his room. All bedrooms of the houses inside the compound are soundproof, on account of wolf hearing, otherwise we would never rest and sleep.
"What is it?" - He asked me as soon as he closed the door.
"I need to tell you something. Please don't judge me, okay?" - I told him as I sat down on his bed.
"I would never judge unless you committed a crime. Plus, I already know about you and Greg." - He deadpans.
"What? How?" - I questioned, shocked and intrigued.
"You never looked at him..."
"I knew you were gonna pick up on that! But really? Just this? Wow!" - I was gobsmacked.
"Of course, that wasn't only it. I also caught your scent on him previously. I'm smart, but I'm not Sherlock Holmes." - He snickered.
"Fine. Now you know. But that wasn't what I came here to tell." - I continued in a serious tone.
"I imagined. Go on." - He gestured to me, already curious about whatever I had to say.
"So, I had a weird dream last night." - I started and he gasped. I guess everyone knows what those words mean.
"You don't say! Finally!" - He exclaimed as he sat in a chair.
"No! I mean, I don't think so. Here's the thing... in the dream, I'm talking to Greg except it's not him. He just looked like him. But he had no idea who I was." - I explained, puzzled.
"Oh my Goddess! I can't believe it! I was just telling Greg the other day..."
"Wait? You talked to him about me?!" - I questioned him, quizzically.
"Yes, I asked him about your relationship when he came to my house last Monday." - He admitted to me.
"What? Anyway, but I don't think it's Greg. Why would he pretend he didn't know me?" - I was genuinely confused at this.
"I don't know... role play?" - He smirked.
"Funny. But we never even had..."
"I know! That was a joke." - He cut me off. I gasped.
"Oh my Goddess! That must've been some talk if you even know that!" - I snickered and then it hit me. - "Did he tell you about the..."
"Yes, he did. But he told me it wasn't deliberate. He understood." - He spoke in a serious tone.
"I'm glad he did. You know I would never..."
"I know. Relax! If not, I would have talked to you already." - He interrupted me, looking serious but understanding.
"Again, I don't know what it is. But I just don't think it's him. Not that I would mind if it was. I mean... just look at him." - I drooled for a second, thinking of Greg. Micah laughed.
"I have looked. He is handsome!" - He agreed with a playful grin.
"Anyway, I'm sorry to disturb your family on Sunday. I just had to talk to someone and I don't think my family or Greg would've understood it." - I told him with a concerned expression. - "Not that they didn't try to pry it out of me this morning." - I smirked.
"I get it. And you never disturb me. I'm here for you, always. I'm glad you've told me. Maybe Greg has a doppelganger hanging around." - Micah jokes. We laughed at this.
"Maybe. See you tomorrow at your front door?" - I told him as I stood up from the bed.
"Of course, I'll wait for you over there." - He moved to hug me. We hugged.
There's a knock on the door. Micah opens it.
"Hey boys, I'm sorry to interrupt your bro talk." - Beta Paul said and we both laughed at his remark.
"Yes, Beta Johnson?" - I inquired as I sensed he was going to ask me something.
"Felix, I just wanted to ask you a favor, if I may?" - He said with a peculiar tone.
"Of course, sir." - I replied without missing a beat.
"Just look out for my boy tomorrow. Make sure he doesn't pull an Underwood." - He spoke and Micah looked embarrassed. I laughed a little.
"Of course, sir. You didn't even need to ask me that. I'll be by his side the whole morning, don't worry about it." - I replied with a mild laugh.
He's referring to the fact that my granddad found his mate, a human, and lunged towards her without ever knowing her before, right in the middle of a full classroom. It goes without saying that did not play well with his mate and she nearly rejected him. It's a great story, nevertheless.
"Thanks, Felix, I'll leave you two to it." - Beta Paul took his leave.
"Actually, I was just about to go, excuse-me." - I said as I moved towards the living room. They accompanied me. I looked at Micah and his beautiful family and told them goodbye.
The rest of the Sunday was peaceful after that. Of course Greg grilled me about the dream, but I asked him for some space and would tell him when I was ready and he ultimately understood it.
We still managed to make out some more before he had to leave my room, so that's always nice.
I really didn't get the dream, but whoever he is, I'm ready for it. Hopefully, I dream about him some more so I can make sense of what the hell is happening and who my mate actually is.
A|N: Damn, poor Felix.
Not even mated and already rejected?
I wonder who his mate is...
Love,
Léo.
