Two days remaining
As soon as we came back, I bumped face first onto Sattvam and Wisnu who were in an apparent rush, tumbling to the floor from the impact as Elissa and Raisa only looked at the three of us out of utter shock. “Ugh, dude! The hell with these rushing out on?” And without question they stood up and pulled me back up to the sleeping quarter, leaving the gals behind in such confusion.
“I-I’m so sorry for this Made, but we have to tell the others of this as well!” Wisnu sounded tired and shaking as if he just seen the most atrocious 4Chan post mankind ever know. I mean, I’d shit myself too if I ever saw one, goodness all those people there have no standards…
As soon as we stepped onto the quarter, we were greeted by Martha and Luh De who seems concerned, for how long it took us to get back here and how tired we looked like from all that running before taking us to a sit, followed by Elissa and Raisa catching up and just sat in the back, with no one even questioning about our current party member…yet. For a moment, it’s all the ringing silence, as we all tried to take a deep breath and had a calm conversation about whatever we find in the meantime.
“…I’ll start. This outbreak, it’s all intentional. I don’t know what the hell they want to do with it, but they do not want any witnesses. The white deer I told of are now our main objective, because they too are looking for it and if they get their hands onto it, we can’t save our home.” Everyone were paying attention close to Sattvam. What do they even want to do with the deer anyway? If this is another one of those money nonsenses they’d profit from, I’m going to bash the skull of their fucking military personnel.
I then raised my hand as everyone averted their gaze to me, kinda making me a little nervous. “Good news, we got just enough ammo to help us in this endeavor sooner or later, thanks to our new friend Elissa over there, say hi everyone.” Eli simply chuckled from my little joking and waved, with Raisa waving as well with a wide smile next to her. “Bad news, we can’t take our van deeper in. There’s a shortcut we have to take on foot there, but it’ll get us straight to the middle of the city.” I continued, as everyone nodded in understandment.
Wow Made, you really just smooth sailed those words, totally deserving an applause there.
“So, we’re going out now? If we want to find this deer first, then we have to get going.” Luh De’s suggestion make us think up for awhile, it’s still evening and in such time, those thing hears better than us and would caught up.
But fuck it, we ball on this one right now.
We began to yet again bring all of our stuff, placing all the bag in the van, almost filling the whole van but it leave enough space for us to lay our feet down as we each take a sit down. I looked at Eli who simply looked back at us and sighed, instead hopping up onto the top of the van and sat there, taking one last sip of her soda can before throwing it off.
“Everyone’s ready? Shit might get bumpy so buckle your seatbelt up.” I was in reflex to Martha’s word when I realized the back seat has none of those ever and only grumbled to both my dumbness and Martha’s joke as he chuckled when noticing me before pulling back to the driver seat, starting the engine, and smashed that gas pedal like it’s his assignment paper down.
The bridge was a long ride, quiet even. Some of us simply took a rest, read a book, and maybe even playing with their toys around. Martha looked to the back every once in a while to see if everything’s alright, but it’s all good. “Yo, Eli? You good up there?” I called out up there just to make sure she didn’t get blown by the winds.
She responded by a thump, kind of loud as it startled Sattvam and Luh De from their sleep for awhile. “Yep, everything up here is still doin all well, cap’n!” I simply smiled from the answer, huffing out as the sky began to grow dark. Guess it’s time those dandy looking umbrella would come in handy because it also began raining.
06:58 PM
“God, it’s growing darker from here…” Martha mumbled, though the rain is not much to be concerned of as it’s not the stormy, heavy rain kind. We almost reached the end of the bridge as I then reached for my bag, now putting it up next to me.
“Wakey wakey sleepyheads~” Raisa went first to wake up Sattvam and Luh De as we reached a blocked end of the bridge, fenced with many labels of warning to not trespass the place at all cost. The couple woke up with a still tired gesture, shaking their head and stretching arms up before taking their bag close.
Wisnu opened the van’s back door as he was shooked when Elissa hopped down right in front of him all wet, splashing some water to his face. “Sorry cutie, but I got a rotting pile of shit to beat up on.” Eli walked away, leaving Wisnu flustered from being called as such, before shaking his thoughts away and hopped down the van with the rest.
We all stood together in front of the fence, as I looked over to Sattvam and Wisnu who understand the assignment and whistled, leading us to a broken ledge of the bridge that has a half assed fence and stone staircase over it. We then slowly descended down towards a muddied, rubbish filled flatland just underneath the district’s wall, and right in front of us is the mineshaft Wisnu told me.
“Follow our lead!” Wisnu enthusiastically said as we all lined up right behind him and Sattvam, who then lighten the place up with their flashlight, with me and Raisa on the back lighting ours as well just in case. “Don’t try to touch anything in here, the walls crumbled easily and we do not want that to ever happened.” He continued as we keep going on our way, a warning that we will, or probably remember.
As we gone deeper to the mine, I found the walls here were filled with corpses that somehow got itself stuck with the walls, some were dried flesh, others are just bone. “Dude, you sure this is right? All this shit looks like a half assed hiding attempt made by a no-clipping Blender model.” Eli whispered, seemingly distressed to see what am I seeing.
“Relax, these have probably been here for a long while now, I’m sure whatever that caused this has probably died out.” She only sighed, as we then looked back at Raisa and her curios look to some of the insects life here, ignoring the large red flag that is the dried splatter of blood in the wall.
We began to enter a more civilized looking area, or what it’s supposed to be. Rundown minecarts, pickaxes, ores left unmined, you name it. They even have instructional guide to safety and map, something you don’t really see often in these kind of places. We ventured to a higher plain as a light slowly seeps through, locked behind a large rusty door filled with dried blood splatters.
“Shit, it’s locked again. Do you think we sho-” Sattvam was cut short when Eli and Luh De stepped forward, kicking down the door as it flew off it’s frame a few distance away from us.
“Consider violence to solve anything next time, luv.” He was greatly stunned, embarrassed even from his expression as he coughed. Wisnu who quickly catches to it pat Tvam’s shoulder, helping him to get his breath and pride back.
“Woohoo! The big city!!” Raisa ran first, as I chuckled from her silly act, followed with all of us looking by the night shrouded town, but unlike the rest of the district, no electricity were to be seen as far as the eyes can see. I was mesmerized with how this place, just like Raisa right now. “Look at all of that tall towers…” She mumbled, as we began making our to the city’s street.
“Keep your eyes open. Any of those thing can be lurking anywhere here.” Martha said as he prepared his gun, followed by us and our respective weapons. It’s hard to see around even with the flashlight, but we keep sticking with each other and hide as much as we can to avoid confrontation against any of those fuckers.
We entered and intersection, sitting in it’s middle before deciding where to go, the right side of the road that lead to the park. Wisnu and Raisa pulled my cloth as they then pointed to a direction, a glimpse of the white deer striding across it’s now dried soils.
Our hope.
But before we can gone in closer, a gurgle came from one of the building close to us. We all quickly aimed our weapons at it and find one of them, twisting it’s neck as Sattvam quickly kills it off by throwing his spear, punching a hole right through it’s head.
The sound somehow still continues.
Many more began to emerge from the building’s dark corner, too many to count even. I quickly held Raisa by the hand, shooting some of those monsters down with the rest before making the run for it. “Get to the park!” Luh De screamed as we followed her passing the park, which in turn also alert the deer as it seems to stride along in the same pace as us, as if they’re trying to…lead us?
Our heart’s racing, getting away from those monsters without time to gather breath, as the chase fills the night with loud screeches and clicking sound. But we have no time to think of where to go, so I looked over to the deer as it then led us to a small alleyway. “Follow me!” I quickly directed everyone else as we quickly followed the deer to the alley, leading out to the beach area as we tumbled and slid down near the sandy shores, leaving those hangry crowds away from catching up with us.
The deer quickly lifted the nearby plank and throw it off to the distance, causing a loud thud that led those beast away from us. We all fell tense except for Elissa, who only looked up to the deer as it bowed down, with her returning the gesture. “Thank you for your service good fella~” The deer then came close to us, seemingly guarding us as we try to regather our strength from earlier.
“Guys, I think we should find a cottage to stay for now…” Martha suggested.
“A-agreed…” Wisnu huffed, gasping for air heavily as we then sat up and looked around.
“Or, maybe sat here for now, hm? The sands felt comfy for some reasons.” Luh De remain rested, looking up to the clear night sky as Sattvam joined in.
“I couldn’t agree more.” He replied, cuddling Luh to his embrace as they both giggled. Oh the wonder of couples…
“Guess it’s settled then, we’re an island boy!!” Raisa exclaimed, before dropping herself down to the sands with the rest.
For the night, we felt peaceful for once, finding the very thing we seek as well as settled near the most gorgeous looking place. The deer too rest itself with us, as it’s antler vividly glows under the moonlight, making me feeling more sleepier than ever.
As I drift to sleep, I remembered the good times we have together during school, just cracking jokes with no worries in the world at all of it. Oh, where did all of those times had gone to now…
