Micah
So that happened.
After Greg and his *twin brother* left the classroom, I hugged Felix for I knew what that implied. He found his mate in the form of River, Greg's twin.
We were shocked. By all of it. Yes, he dreamed about it but we never expected it to be quite so literal. Some part of me and I'm sure Felix too was thinking more on the lines of some kind of metaphor.
But then again, no one said the Moon Goddess was known for being subtle. We should have known better than to underestimate her vision and power. Though I don't get the privilege of being foretold about my mate, I've heard the stories about Felix's parents and grandparents.
Our entire pack has heard about it. It's a tale spread throughout the land.
After the class ended, soon the school was buzzing with the news of the long lost twins reunited after who knows how many years.
Yeah, it made for some interesting lunch conversations.
The rest of the day we just had to power through it. Nothing to do but wait to get home to get some news. But the bomb had already been dropped.
By the time I arrived home later that day, I couldn't wait to tell my parents. But I had to wait till they got home from work. So, I studied, played, read, and passed the time till they got here.
Dad was the first to arrive since he literally works a few yards from home.
"Dad, you're not gonna believe what happened today!" - I started as soon as he stepped foot inside the house.
"I know, son. Have you forgotten? I'm the Beta, I know everything." - He deadpans. He went to the bathroom first, then to the kitchen to start dinner.
Damn! Of course he knew about it already...
"How are they dealing with it?" - I asked instead, sounding preoccupied.
"Alpha Rosalyn was worried for Greg, of course. When I left, the Westbrooks were still talking inside the playroom. But it seemed to be going well." - He informed me as he took a juice from the fridge and poured it into a cup.
"You know that River is Felix's mate, right?" - I said, not really sure if he knew about that part.
"What?! Are you sure?" - He questioned me, baffled.
"Well, according to his dreams, yes. He dreamed about River before we knew there was even a twin brother." - I replied with a smug tone. So I did know something he didn't after all.
"Well, I just hope it all works out for them. I know Greg likes Felix very much. So, I don't know how that is going to play out." - Dad stated, concerned.
"Yeah, me neither. I'm worried for them too." - I was shocked that he knew about it. I thought I was the only one who had picked up on that.
"And what about your mate, still nothing?" - He asked me, hopeful.
"Nothing. After this mess today, I even forgot about her." - I admitted, taken aback by his question.
"Well, there's always tomorrow. But I'm still open to take you out to town so you can sniff her out." - Dad told me with a playful tone.
"I know, dad, let's go Saturday, okay?" - I looked at him with an expectant expression. I really do wanna find my mate. I want nothing else, but I also wanna be there for my friends who are going through something incredibly traumatic and overwhelming.
"Sure, Michael." - Dad replied, nonchalant.
Later, we're having dinner and telling my mom all about it. My sister already knew since we go to the same school and it was the talk of the town. And I do mean the entire city is probably talking about this.
"I just can't believe it. That poor boy!" - Mom sympathized, feeling sad for him.
When Gregory first arrived in town, the warriors delivered him to my dad and he asked my mom to care for him. She's a nurse, so she was the first person to tend to his wounds, bathe and clothe him.
Let's just say that it was not an easy task for her to treat a rebellious teenager. At that point, Greg was nearly feral. He was angry and on top of it all, was just "abandoned" by the only adult with whom he had any sort of bond.
Granted, it was a terrible relationship with his abuser, but it was the only one he ever knew, aside from the woman who had left him some years ago. My mom called me to help her because he was trying to hit her so she wouldn't treat his wounds. I was NOT a fan of Greg back then and it took us a long time for us to become friends.
Nevertheless, she knows first hand the state in which he was found and feels bad for the kid. I feel the same way.
"Me too. I can't even imagine what those parents must've gone through." - Dad spoke in a sorrowful tone.
"And still have a long way to go, the journey is far from over. Not until they get properly reacquainted." - I commented, pensive.
"True, son. It is far from over." - Dad agreed, thoughtfully.
Some time later, I went to sleep. But with all the events that happened today, I couldn't help but think of her. I didn't know what she looked like, but I could imagine. I drift off with a happy face.
The next day, things weren't as awkward as I'd imagine. Felix and Greg were walking out of the compound looking like chill dudes. Judging by their demeanor, you wouldn't think they went through life altering discoveries just yesterday.
"Good morning, guys. Greg, are you okay, buddy?" - I asked him as I joined them walking out of the compound.
"Yes, Micah, I am. Overwhelmed, of course, but I am doing okay." - He gave me a weak smile.
"And are you cool with..." - I trailed off, my eyes glancing over at Felix.
"I have to be. I don't have a choice in the matter. It's not like I can petition the Goddess to give me Felix for my mate." - He snickered. Felix winced.
"I'm sorry, Greg. You know I don't have a choice either." - Felix told him in a saddened tone.
I do, Felix. Relax. I want you to be happy. Plus, you can't ascend without a mate, so I understand." - Greg spoke very maturely for his age. Felix nodded along.
We arrived at school and soon after, River found us. He looked excited to see us, I mean, his brother.
"Good morning, Gregory. Morning, everyone. Are you ready to meet your sister? She's been dying to hug you since we told her about you. She nearly went to the pack house yesterday just to see you, but our dad wouldn't let her. It was already late at night." - River informed him. He was giddy with excitement.
"Guess I have to be. Might as well get to know another Westbrook." - Greg spoke in an amusing tone.
We started walking but River stopped him by putting a hand on his chest. At this, we stopped as well. He looked deep into his brother's eyes.
"Hey, Gregory. You ARE a Westbrook. Never forget that!" - He spoke in a very serious tone. Greg gulped at the statement, then we started waking again.
"Thanks, River. I know." - He gave him an apologetic look.
We walked by the halls and a familiar scent came upon me.
We continued walking in the direction River went and the more we walked, the stronger the scent was in my nose.
"Guys, I think I..." - I started but got interrupted by a beautiful girl who ran to hug Greg.
My eyes turned pitch black.
Greg was in front of me getting hugged by her. River was by their side and got startled as soon as he saw my eyes.
As he looked at me shocked, Felix noticed my eyes and tried to block other people's view of me in the hallway.
On the other hand, I was immovable, stunned. All I could do was to look ahead at the girl with pitch black eyes in front of me as she hugged her brother.
"MATE!" - I declared in a deep, husky voice.
She broke the hug from Greg and came closer to me. She took a deep inhale of my scent.
"MATE!" - She said in a deep, husky voice. I took her scent as she stood near me.
"Oh my Goddess!" - Felix and Greg gasped as they saw us. But we were in our little world.
After a moment, we held each other close in a tight hug. It was the best damn hug I had in my entire life. I inhaled deeply her scent and she did the same with mine. It was the sweetest scent I've ever smelled.
"I can't believe this! I found my brother and my sister found her mate. Come on! Why don't I get a mate too?" - River whined, astonished by the scene before him. If I wasn't so deeply locked into her, I'd laugh at the irony of that statement.
Soon, we're kissing. And her brothers gasped again. Of course, she initiated. I'm a southern gentleman, after all. But oh my Goddess I wanted to kiss her. I needed her lips to touch mine like the starving need food.
I hear the bell rings and we part lips, our eyes turned back to normal.
"Hi, I'm Tisha Westbrook. Nice to meet you." - She extended her hand to shake mine. It was adorable.
"Hi, my name is Michael Johnson. But my friends call me Micah." - I introduced myself as I shook her hand.
"Are you related to Paul Johnson?" - She asked me, curiously.
"Yes, he is my dad." - I replied, blushing a bit. We all start walking towards the classroom.
"Your dad is the Beta? How cool!" - She admired me. She sounded excited to meet me and so was I. I'm grinning from ear to ear.
"Thanks, I will be too in six months when Felix ascends." - I bragged. I couldn't resist it.
"Hi, I'm Felix Underwood Huntington." - Felix introduced himself to her. She was shocked.
"Really? I can't believe my mate will be the Beta of the pack. Thank you, Goddess!" - She was so happy, it was infectious. She looked so adorable, I couldn't stop smiling at her.
They all laughed at this.
"Good for you, Tisha. I hope my mate gets this happy when I find them too." - Felix snickered, avoiding looking at River.
"Right. You'll only find them at 18 like us." - She observed as we walked.
"Oh no, I know who they are. The Goddess already showed me. I just didn't tell them yet." - Felix informed her. If I wasn't smiling so much already, I'd laugh at River listening to this conversation completely unbeknownst.
"Wait! Why did she show you and not everyone else?" - River questioned him, surprised by this information.
"Because I'm in line for Alpha, the Goddess showed me who my mate is in advance, so that I can talk to them. This way, when I eventually turn 18, my Luna must already know and accept me otherwise I can't ascend as Alpha." - Felix explained to him. Greg and I glanced at each other uncomfortably, knowing full well he's talking about River.
"Well, I hope everything turns out all right for you. I'm sure whoever your Luna is, she is gonna be a happy girl." - River said and we three laughed. Tisha looked at me confused and I whispered to her that Felix is gay. Then, she got the joke and laughed too.
"Why are you all laughing? Did I say something funny?" - River frowned, confused.
"We're late for class, people, and the teacher doesn't get we're newly mated." - I interjected. I knew Felix wasn't ready for that conversation yet. And we were a little late.
I didn't have her in my class, but that's all right. I wouldn't be able to concentrate anyway.
Actually, I haven't been able to concentrate at all. I could only think of her, the smile, the scent, the beauty, everything. There was nothing else on my mind.
Later, during lunch break, I ate while looking directly at her the whole time.
Everybody else talked normally, but I only had eyes for my mate. I was simply enchanted by her, truly spellbound.
I can't wait to tell my dad when I get home from school.
In fact, as soon as we got off the bus, we raced to the pack house. Me, Greg and Felix.
We stormed the pack house and went straight to my dad's office. But I knocked first this time.
He opened the door and I had the biggest grin of my life. Apart from the one I had when I first saw her earlier.
"Dad, you're not gonna believe who my mate is!" - I told him excitedly, unable to hide my enthusiastic grin.
A|N: Next chapter things get a little awkward.
It's very aptly called "Don't you want me?"
Love,
Léo.
