20: Not The Most Athletic

20: Not The Most Athletic

Aug 25, 2023

'Alrighty, campers, ready...set...go!'

We head up the mountain as fast as we can. The winner of this competition not only gets to spend a night in a luxury cabin but gets to have a cheat dinner (aka fast food) so practically everyone is trying to get up to the top of the mountain as that's where the red flag is. I'm not going crazy about it so I'm running at a brisk pace compared to the boys in Dukes who are running at the speed of light.

Sophie is doing the same thing as me and we both briskly jog up the mountain. I'll be honest in saying that both of us had no interest in winning (somewhat).

'You know, I was trying a cardigan at Kmart, and it honestly suited my style a little. We don't really have winter in Australia compared to Poland, but we have some sort of a mock-up winter. That'll be the perfect time for me to try on my cardigan.' Sophie was taking wide steps to keep up with my casual wide strides.

'I see what you mean. I just wear more jeans. But it does kinda itch me a little. Cotton is the one material that makes my skin all red and itchy.' I take a little jump.

We continue chatting until Derek runs right past us, through the middle, catching them off guard.

'Oi!' I shout glaring at Derek as he smirked right at me.

'You're too slow Brooke. You may as well be last place.' He runs off laughing and I tighten my fist.

'Go ahead and beat him, Brooke! Show no mercy!' Sophie grabs my arms as if she was literally about to lose in my sports anime.

I nod my head and run ahead. I may not be as fast as others, but my jumps are quite helpful in the long run and actually help me. I see Derek and speed right past him, showing him a peace sign before running away from him. His face of annoyance gave me enough serotonin to allow me to run faster.

I take a sharp left and jump down past a reddish-brown rock. The landscape looks a little strange, but it didn't bother me that much. Only at that moment did I notice that I may have gone the wrong way. I run up the hill before slipping and falling to the ground.

Dear Professor Neuman,

I believe that the position of Head Chef of the Year is an important award that should be earned through hard work. Having the student, Derek Norman, with no evidence of a cooking background (other than taking a Food and Hospitality course for the past 2 years but that doesn't count) be allowed to join the club all because of his nepotistic connection to Professor Neuman isn't fair. I believe that you should reconsider this and not select Derek Norman for the position of Head Chef of the Year.
I expect that you will consider.

Sincerely,
Brooke Monet
Year 12 Student at Hollins Senior College
