Not So Secret Crush

Epilogue Part 2

Epilogue Part 2

Aug 12, 2023

Levi’s P.O.V

After the ceremony, we took a short break as they readied the venue for the reception. The couples went for their photo shoot while Kayden and I stayed to entertain the guests. We mingled with everyone we knew. We also tried to get to know the people we didn’t know. Honestly, being the best man was exhausting, but I couldn’t be any happier for my best friends. We got a few questions about when Kayden and I would follow them, which of course, Kayden avoided like a pro. Thankfully, we were called back in to finish the celebration with a bang. We waited until everyone was settled before the couples were called in.

“Please, ladies and gentlemen, help me welcome our new couples. Jace and Amari Madden and Alex and Leo Hayes.” everyone applauded with joy as my best friends walked into the reception holding hands and smiling ear to ear. Music started, and everyone got up to dance. We laughed as we watched people bring out their best and sometimes worst dance moves. After 30 minutes of dancing, we were asked to clear the stage for the first dance. Everyone returned to their seat as the boys made their way to the centre of the stage. The song Angel Baby by Troye Sivan started playing. It was Alex and Jace’s favourite song, one of the only things they agreed on. The four of them swayed to the rhythm of the songs, getting lost in each other. It melted my heart to see them like this. Tears were threatening to fall again, but I held them in. This is a happy moment, no tears. Shortly after the song ended, another started, and people were invited to join. Kayden’s breath suddenly appeared, fanning my neck from behind.

“Would you do me the honour of joining me for this dance?” he whispered.

“I would love to,” I smiled, taking his hand as he pulled me to the dance floor.

The song that was playing now was All of Me by John Legend. It’s such a beautiful song, and I loved it. Kayden held my waist while I wrapped my arms around his neck, swaying with the music. I spot Jace and Amari from the corner of my eye, waving like crazy at me. I smiled and waved just as crazily back at them. I looked back at Kayden to find him smiling at me, and something was different about this smile, though I couldn’t put my hand on it.

“What?” I asked.

“Nothing, I just love dancing with you.” he leaned his forehead against mine, singing along with the song. “Cause all of me loves all of you.”

“I love you,” I said back to him.

“I love you more,” he replied.

“Impossible.”

The song ended, and we were asked to be seated for dinner and, of course, the best man speech. It was decided that I would do the speech since I was the closest to all of them. We didn’t want to bore people with two speeches.

“Good evening, everyone. Thank you all for being here today to celebrate this amazing day, bringing two amazing couples together. If you didn’t know am the best man for Jace and Alex, but I am also Leo and Amari’s best friend. I have known them for as long as I remember. Leo, Jace, Alex, and I have been inseparable since kindergarten. We played together all the time, but from the moment Leo and Alex met, they hit it off. The trust and love between them were so strong that Jace and I got jealous a bit.” I laughed with the crowd. “They understood each other, and they’re happier when they are together. Although it took them a while to realise the love they held for one another, I never doubted for a second that I wouldn’t be standing here on this day. They went through so much and still came out on top stronger than ever. If the word true love had an image, you two would be it. To Alex and Leo, I wish you the best. May your love grow brighter and sweeter with each passing day. Congratulations.”

“To Alex and Leo,” everyone cheered.

I turned towards Jace and Amari as I flipped the paper for my next part.

“Jace, as I grew up with you, I was honestly terrified for you.” looks of concern filled his face as I smiled. “I didn’t think you would find someone who could handle your craziness, and I honestly thought we’d be single together for the rest of our lives. But I was proven wrong the moment Amari spilled that strawberry milk. I’ve never seen two people compliment each other as much as you two do. Jace and Amari’s love is so big they share it with everyone around them even when we don’t want them to, and if you’ve been around them, you know what I’m talking about. Even at those moments, you couldn’t help but smile watching them. Amari, you are one of the strongest and the most patient person I know, and now that you married him, he is officially your problem. I do not offer returns.” Amari laughed, kissing a pouty Jace. “All jokes aside, Jace, Amari, you two are soulmates. You two were made for each other. To Jace and Amari, may your marriage bring you more joy than ever imagined.”

“To Jace and Amari,” everyone clapped at the end of the speech as I walked to sit back down in my seat next to Kayden.

“You did amazing, babe. So proud of you.” Kayden fingers intertwined with mine shaking away all my nerves.

“Thank you,”

The reception continued without a hitch. We ate some delicious food and danced a bit more. On the other hand, I had to keep an eye on Jace since I promised him I wouldn’t let him get too drunk. This task turned out to be more difficult than I thought, as he kept sneaking away, but I succeeded in the end. Towards the end of the night, Alex and Jace gathered people in the middle. I walked to them, confused as to what they were doing.

“What are you guys doing?” I asked.

“We’re throwing the flower bouquet, duh,” Jace stated as a matter of factly.

“Jace, you guys didn’t do flower bouquets. What are you talking about?” I questioned yet again.

“I had one made just for the occasion. It’s a tradition. We have to do it.” he squealed excitedly, pulling out a beautiful flower bouquet. I left them and went to stand near my table at the end of the group of eager-to-catch people. Jace and Alex turned their back to the crowd and counted to three before turning back around with the bouquet still in their hands. Suddenly At My Worst by Pink Sweats started playing as they walked towards me, the group in the middle parting to let them through. My heart started pounding so loud I could barely hear anything else over it. Jace and Alex smiled at me before handing me the flowers. I was honestly so confused, and my whole body was in disarray.

Then I saw him.

He walked towards me so confidently; he walked towards me, smiling at me with his dimples on display. I, on the other hand, was shaking like a leaf. He stopped in front of me, holding both my hands in his.

“What’s happening?” I whispered, unable to process.

“Levi,” Kayden started.

“Seriously, what’s happening?” I asked again, tears filling my eyes, I knew what was happening, but at the same time, I couldn’t believe it. He laughed, wiping away the tears that escaped.

“Remember this song?” he asked.

“How could I forget,” I replied. He smiled yet again, kissing my forehead.

“My sweet Bun-bun, from the moment we met on that bus, our fate was sealed. I met the most amazing, kind, shy and adorable person. When I met you, it took me a while to realise that I'd met my match. It was only a matter of time until we arrived at this moment. Every one of your sweet words, your shy smiles, and your nervous stutters were so damn precious to me. Thank you for being patient and never giving up on me. I know you're the only one I want to share the rest of my life with. I love you, Levi, and I will love you till the end of time. The story of our love is only beginning. So let's write our own happy ending. Will you marry me?” He finally asked, dropping down to one knee, taking out a ring box, and opening it.

My tears refused to stop, blurring my vision. I was honestly speechless. I’ve dreamt of this moment, and now that I am here, it feels surreal. It seemed like I was taking my time answering because Kayden spoke again.

“I got down on one knee for you, and whether you say "yes" or "no," I'm going to need your help getting back up.” I laughed hard, and it cleared my head completely. He always knows how to make me feel better. How could I ever say no to him?

“Yes. Yes, of course, I will marry you.” I knelt in front of him, kissing his soft lips. He smiled, pulling away to put the most beautiful ring on my finger. It was a silver band with a single row of diamonds on the bottom half. On top of it are our initials K&L, written in cursive. It was simple yet breathtaking.

We stood up together, taking in the cheering coming from around us. I could see Jace jumping up and down in excitement while Alex smiled brightly.

“I love you,” Kayden whispered.

“My love for you grows every day, I couldn’t love you more than I do right now, yet I know tomorrow and every day after that, I will.” I smiled, sealing our lips now and forever.

Okay, maybe my story wasn’t so bad.

THE END
