Everyone was haunted by something.
Sebastian couldn’t believe Asher even suggested visiting that gods forsaken hospital. Haunting memories bled through his mind as he struggled to keep himself calm. Being frozen did little to ease his already agitated body.
It wasn’t like Asher meant to freeze him like that. Such magic was uncanny to him and it left him with a desire to feed, so he let Castor fetch him a bag of blood. He didn’t wish to make Asher uncomfortable by drinking in front of him, but he couldn’t resist.
“What if we visited the place together?” Castor suggested out of the blue. “Asher wouldn’t get himself hurt and we can keep an eye on him.”
Sebastian wanted to throttle his dear friend at that moment for suggesting such a thing. It wasn’t like he knew that hospital harbored unforgivable memories for Sebastian that still left him with nightmares.
“No, it’s not a good idea.” Sebastian remained firm on his stance. “What could possibly be in that old dump? I wouldn’t be surprised if the building collapsed on us if we even dared to try breaking inside.”
“If you don’t want to come with me, then I’ll go alone,” Asher said. “I’m not afraid of some old hospital, especially if that’s where our killer is hiding out. This could be a chance at clearing your name, Sebastian.”
“Doubt it.”
“Are you still upset with me for freezing you?” Asher’s expression softened as guilt brimmed in his silvery eyes. “Do you not trust being alone with me? If that’s the case, I really don’t mind checking it out by myself.”
“It’s not that.” Sebastian shook his head. “Look, I just don’t think it’s a good idea. That’s all. I’ve heard a lot of bad things about that old hospital. It’s not worth putting ourselves at risk.”
“There’s something you’re not telling us.” Castor eyed him suspiciously. “If you don’t want to go, I don’t mind taking your mage there. I promise not to bite him.”
Asher bristled. “I’ll hex you if you even dare.”
Castor slanted his eyes at him, rage smoldering in his crimson irises. “If you freeze me like that, I’ll burn my way out and-”
“Enough bickering,” Sebastian snapped. “If checking this old hospital out is so important, then I’ll take you both. But you have to promise me we’ll tread lightly. That place is dangerous.”
“We’ll be careful, I swear.” Determination glistened in Asher’s silvery eyes. “I’ll get to packing right away. Let’s meet back up at my cabin, okay? We should head out while it’s morning, and by afternoon, hopefully the fog will clear out.”
Sebastian wanted to scream hell no, but all he could muster was a small nod. A deep, unsettling inkling in his chest told him something was bound to go horribly wrong.
