“Relax, it's just a doorknob and if she needed help she would have asked by now,” Oli smiles, watching the alpha nearly wear a hole into the rug.
“I know, I know….It's just..”
“You're worried. I get it, I was the same way when I first met Daniel. I didn't want to leave his side…I was worried something would happen…” Oli trails off, “Go. I'll man the fort.”
“Thank you,” Vanessa smiles, running out of her office and nearly running into the slightly smaller figure walking toward her, “Sorry, I- Alex?”
“Hey,” Alex mumbles, her eyes laser-focused on the ground.
“Are you okay? Do you need anything? Are you hurt-”
“I lost a screw,” Alex interrupts, seemingly caught up in her search for the missing screw to realize who she was talking to.
The alpha’s brows furrowed as she too focused on the ground, “What did it look-”
“Found it,” Alex smiled, picking up the bronze screw, “Do you know where the tools are? I managed to find the doorknob,” Alex held up the contraption, “but I couldn't find the screwdriver.”
“Uh,” Vanessa huffed, thinking before leading the Beta toward a hallway closet near the front door of the house, “It should be with the other tools. The last time I saw the tools they were in here,” Vanessa says, pulling open the door before stepping in and grabbing a red toolbox off of one of the shelves.
“I can do the rest from here, thank you,” Alex says gently tugging on Vanessa’s arm.
“I can get it-” The sudden crash of the toolbox falling off of the shelf and landing on Vanessa’s foot interrupted the woman, “Shit!” Vanessa hollers grabbing her foot.
“I told you I could do it,” Alex grumbles, grabbing the bouncing woman’s foot and pulling it out of the shoe to look at it. The nail was already starting to bruise, “Can you move your toe?”
The alpha hissed as pain shot from her toe, “Fuck!”
“I’ll take that as a no,” Alex sighs, “How close is the nearest hospital?”
“Hospital? I don't need a hospital, I'm fine I just have to ice it and-” Vanessa howled, barely putting any weight on the toe.
“Yes, you do. It could be broken,” Alex grabs the other woman by the arm hoping to help steady her.
“No- no hospitals.”
“Fine, I'll just ask Oli-”
“No, no…. It's a few miles from here. It's just in town.”
Alex nods, helping the other woman out of the closet, “where are your car keys?”
