There's a heavy weight hanging over this chapter, especially the section with Aiden, waiting for him to find out about what's happened. It must be incredibly stressful living the kinda lives they do and not knowing whether no reply means a busy day at work or something worse. The atmosphere in the hospital scene was also crazy tense, the "helpful advice" that could end up being more than advice if it ends up happening again. Especially considering Aiden's precarious custody situation, shit is scary, there's a lot of weight to that exchange.
Aiden, Onyx, Dominic and Covin are four losers in their mid-20s content with just getting by. Saddled with present adult obligations and weighed down by past childhood traumas, they desperately try to live their lives while keeping a Pandora's box of long-buried secrets from ruining what little joy they have.
