Chapter 3 - Havenmoor's Welcoming Hearth

Chapter 3 - Havenmoor's Welcoming Hearth

Sep 04, 2023

Upon arriving at Havenmoor, Einz Carter found himself drawn to a quaint inn with a wooden sign that swung gently in the breeze, reading "The Hearth's Embrace." With a hopeful smile, he pushed open the creaking door, stepping into the cozy interior where the warm glow of lanterns enveloped the room.

The innkeeper, Olga, a cheerful and stout woman, greeted him with a welcoming smile. Beside her stood her husband, Rickner, a tall and robust man with a warm twinkle in his eyes. They both wore aprons, evidence of their shared past as retired adventurers.

"Welcome, young one! You must be new around here," Olga said kindly, noticing the curiosity in Einz's eyes.

Einz nodded. "Yes, ma'am. I just arrived in Havenmoor and I'm looking for a place to stay."

"Well, you've come to the right place! We have the comfiest rooms in all of Havenmoor," Rickner chimed in, his voice rich and friendly.

As Einz settled in, he learned that the inn's chef was none other than Rickner himself, and their lovely 12-year-old daughter was named Yulia. Over a hearty meal, they shared tales of their adventures, and Einz couldn't help but be inspired by the brave and kindhearted family.

After their meal, Einz approached Olga, his curiosity piqued by the unfamiliar currency he had encountered earlier. "Excuse me, ma'am, but I noticed that the coins here are different from what I'm used to. Could you tell me more about them?"

Olga's eyes twinkled as she explained, "Of course, dear! In Havenmoor, we use a currency system with different denominations. We have nickel coins, copper coins, large copper coins, silver coins, gold coins, and even platinum coins. Each one holds different values, and they're essential for trade and commerce in the city."

Einz nodded, grateful for the information. "Thank you, ma'am. I'm not familiar with city life, having been raised in the mountains. Could you also tell me the best way to navigate Havenmoor?"

Olga smiled kindly. "Certainly! Havenmoor is a bustling city, but it's quite easy to find your way around. The central market square is a good starting point, and from there, you can explore various districts. If you need anything or get lost, just ask anyone, and they'll be happy to help."

Grateful for her guidance, Einz made his way to the Adventurers Guild, seeking more information about becoming an adventurer. Inside, he found Rickner, who was now focused on calculating some coins with a group of adventurers.

Approaching him, Einz hesitated for a moment before speaking up. "Excuse me, sir. I have some coins here, and I was wondering if you could help me calculate their total value?"

Rickner turned to him with a friendly smile. "Of course! Let me take a look." Together, they counted the coins, and Rickner helped Einz determine that he had 32 silver coins, 4 large copper coins, 20 copper coins, and 51 nickel coins in total.

With the knowledge of his funds, Einz felt more prepared to begin his journey as an adventurer. He approached the guild receptionist, who was happy to explain the process of becoming an adventurer. She introduced him to the ranks, from the entry-level Rank E to the highest-ranking adventurers of Rank SS, each signifying increasing levels of expertise and accomplishments.

Elara Windrider, the receptionist of the Adventurers Guild, has a rich and diverse background that reflects her unique journey.

Elara was born in the coastal city of Havenmoor, where her family ran a small bookstore. Growing up surrounded by books and tales of adventure, she developed a deep fascination for the world beyond the city's walls. Her parents, avid readers themselves, encouraged her curiosity and thirst for knowledge.

As a young girl, Elara spent hours poring over maps and ancient scrolls, dreaming of far-off lands and daring quests. She yearned to be part of the adventures she read about, but she lacked the physical prowess of a warrior or the magical aptitude of a mage.

However, fate had other plans for her. When she came of age, she joined the Adventurers Guild as a scribe and quickly became enamored with the guild's vibrant and diverse community. Her meticulous nature and insatiable curiosity made her the perfect candidate for the role of guild receptionist.

Elara's role involved welcoming aspiring adventurers, organizing quests, and maintaining records of guild activities. Her extensive knowledge of the guild's inner workings and her keen memory made her an invaluable asset to the guild members.

Over the years, Elara has become a trusted figure among adventurers, offering guidance to newcomers and assisting experienced members with their quests. She has also discovered a hidden talent for diplomacy and negotiation, often mediating disputes and fostering camaraderie within the guild.

While Elara may not be wielding a sword or casting spells, her role as the guild's receptionist is no less heroic. She plays an essential part in the guild's success, ensuring that adventurers have the support and resources they need to thrive in the challenging world of Aetheria. Her story serves as a reminder that heroism comes in many forms, and sometimes, it's the wisdom and knowledge of individuals like Elara Windrider that can make all the difference in the fate of adventurers and the realm they seek to protect.

Elara, the experienced receptionist of the Adventurers Guild, took Einz Carter through the essential rules and processes of taking on quests.

With a warm smile, she began, "Welcome to the Adventurers Guild, Einz. Here, we have a few basic rules that every adventurer should be aware of. Firstly, when taking on quests, make sure to read the details carefully. Each quest has a rank associated with it, ranging from Rank E to Rank SS, indicating its difficulty level. Always choose quests that match your current rank or lower. Since you've helped Kellan's group, a team of C Rank adventurers, you'll be registered as a Rank D adventurer to start."

Einz nodded attentively, absorbing the information. "Understood, Elara."

Elara continued, "Additionally, all quests have a time limit, so be sure to complete them within the given timeframe. It's crucial to report back to the guild once a quest is completed. This helps us keep track of your progress and ensures that you receive your rewards promptly."

Einz took mental notes of these important guidelines. "I'll keep that in mind."

"Great," Elara said with encouragement. "Lastly, remember to take your Guild Identification Card with you on quests. It not only verifies your status as an adventurer but also contains emergency contact information. Safety is a priority."

As Einz received his Guild Identification Card from Elara, he couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement and responsibility. He was now officially part of the adventurers' community, ready to take on challenges and forge his own path in Aetheria.

Elara offered a reassuring smile. "Einz, you're now officially a Rank D adventurer. Don't hesitate to visit the guild if you have any questions or need assistance. And remember, as an adventurer, you're never alone. The guild is here to support you, and you'll find camaraderie among your fellow adventurers."

With a grateful nod, Einz thanked Elara for her guidance and headed out, his heart filled with anticipation for the adventures that awaited him. He was ready to prove himself as a capable adventurer and, perhaps, to uncover the mysteries of his own destiny in the vast and magical realm of Aetheria

As he left the Adventurers Guild, Einz felt a sense of excitement and determination surging through him. The world of Havenmoor and the realm of Aetheria beckoned him with boundless possibilities, and he knew that his journey had only just begun. With newfound knowledge, a warm inn to call home, and the support of newfound friends, Einz stood ready to embrace his destiny as an adventurer and weave his own tale in the vast and magical continent of Aetheria.
