We had agreed to not go to the special place too often…
We didn’t want to lure in crazy people. They’d ruin it.
“Melisa, do you think Taffy will like this?” Alferd held a bone-shaped toy with a ‘tasty treat for your canine friend!’ tag written on it.
“Yeah it looks good, don’t forget to get the actual dog food too,” I responded. It would be good for him to chew something other than shoes.
I’d expect many things from a pet shop.
We had agreed to not go were the animals were kept…
We didn’t want our day to be ruined…
He was distracted by the fascinating collection of things.
While I couldn’t only think,
what if some of them are still alive shouldn’t we save them?
I couldn’t bare it so I went in anyway.
The moment I I saw them I felt sick…
It was horrific in a way I couldn’t describe properly without sounding insensitive.
I closed the door. My eyes were damp and numb.
He didn’t notice
I felt relieved.
We went home.
I didn’t say a word.
I couldn’t.
“Ruff.” Taffy barked while playing with the toy.
It was fun to see him play with it.
It was violent in a cute way.
It made me feel a bit better.
