“It’s BURNING!’’ I freaked out and whined the only thing I could cook was burnt cake, burnt crepes, burnt… I only wanted to impress Alferd but I was tragically a noob at the art of baking.
In fact, I had no hobbies at all. That was the only thing that made Alferd question why I was still alive as he apparently couldn’t be without one? All I did was teach myself to read and spend the rest of my time in my head.
“I’m pretty sure that isn’t how you fry a pancake.’’
‘’Don’t be mean!’’
‘’Okay fine, all you have to do is cook with low heat for 2 mins or until small bubbles start to appear. Flip the pancake and cook for another 2 mins or until it is golden and well risen and pay attention. Stop getting distracted half way through! Or you could let me serve you as you knight. Or am I your chef?” Alferd wondered.
He let Taffy enjoy my pancakes. Alferd had tried to teach me but I was just not good at it. Maybe because I was so fidgety that I couldn’t concentrate.
My last few were edible at least.
And he ate them,
I had had the time of my life…
It was perfect. Nothing else in my life was perfect but I had time.
I was allowed to be happy.
I was allowed to want to be here.
Living every day with him.
In this edge of nature.
Don’t remind me of those negative thoughts.
Stop being selfish. You don't deserve this.
Just another day searching the lab. This time I wasn’t really looking until...
"Ruff Ruff!" Taffy wagged his pink little tail.
A disc-shaped ship stood there with an opening to the sky. "Good boy!" I gave him a scratch under the chin.
This is it.
I couldn’t run away anymore.
There is no place to hide.
No excuse.
None of that.
This was a spaceship.
We packed our bags.
These memories we had built meant nothing.
We didn’t even check the special place.
My heart felt cold…
We went shooting into space.
Ignoring burnt edges and the badly mixed ingredients.
