Devil behind the door

CHAPTER 6: LINKS

CHAPTER 6: LINKS

Sep 21, 2023

After a month had passed since Miss Red's untimely demise, Chin found herself in her room, a sanctuary of solitude. The rain cascaded outside, its relentless patter against the windowpane forming a symphony of nature. Elly, her trusted friend, entered the room.

Chin greeted her knowingly, "I had a feeling you'd come today. You always sought refuge here when thunderstorms and heavy rain hit." Elly smiled, acknowledging, "You know me better than I know myself."

As they conversed, raindrops continued to dance down from the heavens, creating a serene backdrop. However, an eerie feeling gripped Chin. It seemed as though someone was watching them from outside, obscured by the rain-soaked window.

Elly inquired about the love of Chin's life, and Chin responded, "He's not my love; I've simply accepted him as my fate." Elly, skeptical, remarked, "Chin, I can't believe you believe in fate. It's such a foolish concept." Chin countered, "I didn't believe in fate until I met him. Meeting him changed everything." Elly questioned, "After meeting him? Chin, he never met you. He shouted at you in public and claimed to be a serial killer. Yet, you believe he'll meet you again?"

Chin's conviction remained unshaken. She confessed, "He never met me, but I met him because I need him, and he doesn't need me. What if he is a serial killer? I won't let the police catch him. This is my way of love." Elly scoffed, "You're going crazy, defending someone so dangerous just because you love them." Chin countered, "Every saint has a past, and every sinner has a future." Elly struggled to understand, "Chin, I think you need better sleep. You're saying things you shouldn't. I never thought someone like you could fall in love, but you're already defending him. You must love him."

Their conversation turned playful as Chin playfully hit Elly with a pillow, and laughter filled the room. The storm outside continued its symphony of rain and thunder.

Morning broke with bright sunlight streaming through the window. Elly, awakening, mentioned the thunderstorm had made her restless. Chin regretfully acknowledged, "You should have woken me; I would have kept you company." Elly, touched, replied, "Chin, you always act like my mother, but truthfully, whenever I look at you, I miss my mom a lot."

Chin tried to comfort her, but the conversation veered away from her parents, a topic Elly preferred to avoid. They decided to have breakfast at a nearby café, leaving the warmth of their room.

The scene shifted to Mr. Mark's office, where he delved into an old, intriguing case. His fascination was palpable. Then, his phone rang, shattering his concentration. On the other end, a man with a deep, raspy voice spoke, "Hello, Mark. I'm impressed with the way you found out about Elbork, now i really want to join hands with you."

Mr. Mark, cautious yet composed, responded, "I'm telling you for the second time, if you try to join hands with me, I'll do to you what was done to Elbork." The man hinted at Mark's surveillance, to which Mark simply stated, "It's your luck that the only thing I don't know is where you are right now and your relationship with this case. But your luck may run out soon."

Silence hung heavily in the air as the man abruptly ended the call, leaving Mark to sip his coffee and return to his work.

Now, the narrative shifted towards Taewoo, who had been in England on a special mission for three months, accompanied by his partner Hazel. Taewoo, deeply absorbed in his work, held a personal connection to this case.

The case revolved around a mystery from 21 years ago when an unknown assailant had attacked an agency in Korea, claiming the lives of four architects. Precious documents linked to a hidden treasure, concealed since the era of Jason, had vanished. These documents were believed to be in England. Taewoo's parents had also tragically perished in that attack, giving him a personal motive to solve this puzzle. He suspected that the holder of these documents might be the key to understanding his parents' killers or the ones behind it."
