Dominator Dragons were one of the first races to evolve from their baser selves and become
more powerful and creating something unheard of in those days, Ego. Common parlance and
knowledge would indicate that the older the dragon, the more powerful they become and the
more arrogant they become, the dragon named Vra’kei’illel was better than his those who
claimed to be superior, his cunning and brutality to the lesser races were noticed by the
Umbra Council, the ancient gathering of powers that dictated how the world would work, but
Vra’kei didn’t want to curtail to their silly rules. So, in his rage he slaughtered the Umbra
Council. Vra’kei had a terrible idea, conquer the world and have all races under his talons,
with the Umbra Council destroyed his plan was in motion but in doing so triggered the First
Manifestation War, by this time however the more intelligent races like the Elves and some
primitive Humans who studied under the Elves assembled an army to fight Vra’kei but the
dragon was more cunning by fighting other dragons Vra’kei did what his species did best,
Dominate. The First Manifestation War lasted five years with the humanoid races using
guerilla hit and run tactics to slay them but they found them too powerful so instead used the
manifestations to seal them using an ancient form of petrifaction magic which is now a lost
art. Vra’kei was last to be sealed but it took several hours to create the spell as his will was so
strong, Virtus the First was still a young soldier then and the Imperial Magica Academy sent
their top manifesters to assist with the containment, even the Elven Imperium sent their
strongest casters as well however in the end Vra’kei was sealed and placed in a temple high
in the mountains in the Blast Lands. Two centuries since the Great Sealing as they called it
Virtus the Third sent out orders to retrieve the eyes of their petrified dragons for form a
weapon to do what the dragons did before him, Dominate. The concept of time is never really
linear in a sense, what could be perceived as a few centuries depending on who you ask could
be a few thousand years as time is just as fluid as water.
vampires who could have just slaughtered him on the spot were now deliberating with Zurgad
while Darius sat on a simple stone bench staring at the intricately carved walls, fingernails
and bone were embedded in them which gave him a cold chill up his spine, he knew he
wasn’t in the company of decent people even the darkness here didn’t give him the quiet
solace he had in the Imperium but his eyes were open and his memories were almost
reformed, of course not remembering his childhood was a good thing as it was a time of the
worst kind of pain. “Darius, my son has informed me that you wish to take the fight to
Virtus” it wasn’t a question “I intend to end that little worm” the venom was palpable in
Darius’ voice “Intriguing, however the harvest is nigh and troop allocation is reserved for the
Feast of Blood we are due to have, Zurgad does your companion share in the blood you take
from others?” the old vampire asked, the look of confusion on Darius’ face said it all “He is
not one of us father” Zurgad said rubbing his forehead “Oh? I can smell the blood permeating
off his very being, he is soaked in more blood than your ancestor who was named The Lord
of Blood, I think even he may feel inadequate next to this person” the old vampire cackled “It
really wasn’t a choice I had, the sad education of my youth was one that I do not care to
remember” there was a touch of regretful sorrow in his voice but the old vampire simply
shrugged “Zurgad he is free to stay and observe the feast but after tomorrows Blood Moon
Rite he must depart the area since our guests will be… Quite thirsty for more blood and they
may want to have a sniff at your friend here” Zurgad simply nodded and guided Darius to a
secluded room on the second floor that had a balcony. The moon was hanging low and had a
light shade of red across it, the room itself was quite bare just a simple cot with a feather
mattress “This is generally reserved for servants but they have been moved to the deeper
parts of the castle, father has allocated this for you at least until we leave” said Zurgad,
Darius was quite taken with the room, wasn’t big or ostentatious just simple and he enjoyed
simple things “You’re not staying?” Darius asked “I did say that I will assist you and besides
my kingdom pretty much runs itself, I have my servants and council doing the things I
normally do, this is the most excitement and fun I have had in centuries. Although when you
were taken to the Iron Gaol I was a little worried but I couldn’t get in regardless of what I did
since it was warded against everything” said Zurgad half smiling “Wouldn’t have stopped me
feeding on the guards but I realized the time of the century was approaching so I was
gathering much needed blood and when you caught me out in that field I was surprised you
actually escaped” he smiled again “I had some help, Bane has his uses after all even if he is a
violent sociopath” Darius laughed but there was a sense of guilt though, not of the people
Bane had killed but knowing how miserable his existence would be if he was another person
or maybe he would thrive either way it was a scary concept that Bane had in mind anyway,
Darius knew where to go and have the ritual performed but the amount of power to form
another person into adulthood was unfathomable and mind boggling to say the least.
as these creatures seemed to lurch out from them dressed in attire only those in high society
and nobility would wear but they were wearing masquerade masks so no one would identify
them but their clothing had a specific motif about them, what he noticed was there were
domains under the main holders of land, for instance the Kingdom of the Sanguine Court also
housed Noble House of Valakarn, a mostly militaristic house comprised of vampiric knights
or the Kingdom of the Harbingers of Dawn with their Knights of the Imperial Moon or
Servants of Wrath then the Kingdom of the Twilight Court with their Supreme Blood Priests,
however most of the soldiers would not be present at this ball just the highest ranks of their
respective houses. The Kingdom of the Sanguine Court members wore dark maroon clothing
with silver trimmed hems and lining on their doublets, their pants were more practical not
hose but long breeches with simple black leather boots that came just under their knees of
course emblazoned on their doublets and long skirts was the house emblem, a single drop of
blood. Kingdom of the Twilight Court had pure black doublets and breeches with the same
simple leather knee boots but they had long flowing capes with the house emblem on the
back which was a crescent scarlet moon. The Kingdom of the Harbingers of Dawn wore soft
golden clothing with a rising golden sun forming on their clothing, even their gloves which
went to their elbows had the emblem on there, the Twilight Court may have had the most
power and influence but the Harbingers of Dawn had the power of industry but as these
members of high houses walked in they were accompanied by several armored soldiers who
lined up along the great hall in their respective positions guarding their masters. Darius was
invited to attend as he was a guest, he was going to originally decline but at Zurgad’s behest
he was convinced to have a look at something that no outsider gets to see.
would just simply sit on a balcony overlooking the proceedings but was ushered down to the
main floor where the guests simply stopped and the music instantly died, the high Lady of the
Harbingers of Dawn almost slithered to Darius smelling the air around him, she let out a loud
moan “Who is this?” her mood was now elevated and her hands were shaking “Do tell me
who you are, we might have to have a little time to ourselves in a room somewhere” she
giggled like a small girl but Darius was not very receptive, before he could open his mouth
however Lilith stepped in beside Darius, the music continued after Lilith’s apperance “Dear
Lady Violet, do refrain from speaking to those outside of your station, remember your place
you little whore” Lady Violet had a pleasant face, her features were that of a noble woman of
the highest standing with even her rogue done the old way, instead of a simple powder her
cheeks were instead pinched to get that nice red color, even her lips were colored with dark
red lipstick or it could have been blood “Insults Lilith? Still hiding behind your father? When
is the old man going to realize you are as useless as a house mite and step on you?” the
insults continued until they simply laughed and embraced each other “I have missed our little
repartee Lilith, how are you doing?” she took her hands into hers and kissed her lips “I am
very well, as well as can be in these times, I heard your brother perished, you have my utmost
sympathies” there was a pang of sadness but the emotion died rather quickly “Was his own
fault for being stupid but enough of that, who is this… Mortal with the stain of blood all
through him he makes me shake with ecstasy” she began to tremble again “This is my
brother’s guest, do refrain from biting him, you may feel a little fire hit your tongue” Lilith
said placing several strands behind her ear while Darius simply moved about the crowd trying
to find a way out before a large hand landed on his shoulder “What do we have here? A lost
little lamb unable to find his way back to the flock?” Darius grabbed the hand and twisted
“Common manners would dictate that instead of grabbing someone and being overtly rude
you walking, smelly, ugly looking fuck is that you introduce yourself first before calling
someone you don’t know a lost little lamb” he really disliked people touching him and being
paranoid around people that could simply just jump on him biting and tearing, the vampire
was strong but Darius was applying a simple wrist lock “The lost lamb has shown some teeth,
so perhaps he is a wolf?” Darius moved in with the graceful steps of an elf and did a quick
leg sweep leveling this armored warrior onto his back with a resounding crash while the mask he wore was ripped off, the mask was modest with no motif it was a simple black mask one
masks sacred and removing one in even accident or otherwise was a disgrace. There were
hushed whispers at the sudden removal as they covered their mouths as the old vampire
strode forward “You step into my house soldier and remove a mask of one of my guests? I
should have your mistress flay you for being an obstinate little bottom feeder” he wanted to
swear but social decorum and proper manners stated otherwise “He touched me my lord”
Darius raised his eyebrow, the old vampire looked at Darius then at the soldier “You are
lucky you are not ash boy” the old vampire said to the soldier “Lady Helagan, please remove
yourself from the ball and report to my office, I have some choice words for you and your
retinue” the old vampire strode towards a small door while Lady Helagan flicked Darius a
filthy look as the soldier was unceremoniously dragged to the office.
as Darius stayed close to the walls managing to ignore the majority of the people there, their
speed and grace as they danced around each other was mesmerizing to say the least, the
swirling colors combined with the music was hypnotizing, the gazing was interrupted when a
black-haired woman walked up to Darius “So you are the World’s Worst Sorcerer? Odd
considering when you were in our employ Darius you were our best teacher” her voice was
elegant, even the clothing she chose was elegant and her hair was tapered down her back
which was fixed with a small blade at the end which indicated that she was able to use her
hair like a weapon. After all she was a witch. “Charon, good to see that the Inquisitors of the
Sun haven’t burned you alive yet” it was a joke since Charon as the name Darius knew her as
actually worked with the Inquisitors of the Sun to hunt other witches and very evil entities
“Well, the pay is incredible. It is so good to see you again” she embraced him planting a kiss
on his cheek “Trying to bewitch me again?” Darius smiled “After our night in Haven I’m
surprised you didn’t seek me out to continue our night of romance” her eyes were deep blue
and Darius couldn’t help but feel somewhat attracted to her again but that was her skill, lure
men in and capture them, torture them then cast them into the arms of a dungeon “You know
my reasons and the answer is still no with respect of course” she sighed “Ah still attached to
that Elementalist I suppose, fair however she is an attractive sort, for a nomad of course but I
am glad you are happy Darius, or should I call you Aramorn Lord of the Black Keep?”
Darius’ eyes narrowed “I don’t remember that title” he said flatly “Memory loss? Oh, I see
the price still hangs on you with that Dragon Stone in your possession” she sighed again
“Besides Charon, I feel zero attraction with Alys, an odd thing happened after I was almost
killed, my libido for what it was went out the window and hit the ground” Charon laughed
“Oh dear” she laughed again “That aside, what are you doing here? I thought this was strictly
for neck biters” he asked “Oh the Inquisitors of the Sun work with the Kingdom of the
Harbingers of Dawn, they really need a new name, one that has gravitas but anyway there
was a Frost Witch who escaped custody recently and she has been summoning massive ice
elementals and causing mayhem in the Sunless Peaks, doesn’t explain how you came to be
here though, no normal mortal can survive here then again you weren’t really mortal
anyway” a niggling little feeling was at the back of his mind, slowly as if was slowly drilling
a hole “What do you mean? How do we know each other exactly?”
