Making A Pact With The Vampire King

Are You Calling Me Broke?

Are You Calling Me Broke?

Sep 28, 2023

Seeing that he wasn't coming out from the bathroom, she assumed he was also shy like her. She looked around and saw his shirt and jacket, which were hanging off a chair. She picked up his mask. As she carefully walked to the door, avoiding the scattered pillows and shoes. She lowered her eyes, not wanting to invade his privacy.

Lucia knocked on the door and heard a 'hum' from him. She cleared her throat and stretched her hands through the door. "Here, I brought your mask. Also, I placed your clothes on the bed," she said, in a soft voice.

Hearing this, Callum's handsome face came into full view. His face was a sight to behold. His eyes were a vivid green, like emeralds shining in the sun, and they contrasted with his dark hair and tan skin. His nose was prominent and noble, his lips were soft and inviting, and his chin was firm and sculpted.

Callums hair was thick and curly, framing his face in a way that accentuated his features.

He had a look of surprise on his face, he hadn't expected her to speak to him. His features were striking, but not in a flashy or ostentatious way. There was something quite elegant about him, but not in a snobbish or aloof way.

Peeking through the door he couldn't help but smile. Callum walked to the door, as Lucia heard his footsteps. She leaned against the door frame, as she used the wall beside the door to hide her face. She was too embarrassed to look at him, after what they had done. She hoped to leave soon, and forget about everything.

Callum walked closer, and saw her back. He shook his head in disbelief. It's not like I haven't seen your face before, he thought to himself. But he couldn't say that out loud, if not, Lord knows what she would do. She might scream, or slap him, or run away. He decided to play along with her shyness.

Callum couldn't help but shiver at the thought of it. He took his mask from her hand and said, "Thank you for your hard work."

Lucia, who was about to turn, paused. Is he mocking me? She wondered. She was tempted to walk in there and question him, but she held herself back. Maybe I'm just overthinking things again. She cleared her throat and said, "Well, I'll be going now."

Just as she was about to turn again, his voice rang out from the bathroom. "Do you know your way out? Or are you going to stumble into another room?" He asked, with a hint of sarcasm.

Lucia couldn't help but say, with a raised brow, "Are you mocking me? I am not some dumbo." She said, feeling offended. She had only ended up in that room by mistake, after all.

Lucia paused, her mind racing as she processed the situation. "How did you know I stumbled into this room?" She asked, disbelief coloring her voice.

Callum casually strolled over to the sink, glancing at his reflection in the mirror. He put on the mask over his face which covered half if his facial features. He smiled slightly "Me? How could I? But if you know your way out, don't let me stop you. Also,  you give me too much credit. I'd need quite the paycheck to play detective, and I'm afraid your budget wouldn't cut it. My time, you see, is rather precious."

Lucia couldn't help but roll her eyes. "Are you calling me broke?"

Callum sighed dramatically, "Oh, no Lucia, I never said such a thing."

Lucia's irritation bubbled up as she swirled her tongue around her teeth, her annoyance visible.

Callum, however, misread her silence as some sort of acknowledgment. She sighed, silently reminding herself that she had vowed not to see him again. Taking a deep breath, she managed to calm herself.

Then, Callum chimed in, "Okay, I'm about to step out. Wouldn't it be a good idea for you to freshen up a bit before you leave? You wouldn't want to attract unnecessary attention, would you?"

Lucia, still leaning against the door frame, glanced down at herself in the soft light. Her hands did indeed feel sticky.

Callum's voice, always frustratingly composed, echoed from inside the bathroom, "I'm on my way out now."

With a huff, Lucia pushed herself off the door frame. She muttered under her breath, "Ugh, fine." The word "clean-up" rang through her mind like an annoying jingle. She knew he had a point.
