After intermission we got back on stage, and were interrupted mid-scene unexpectedly by the director, who was hissing at us from the wings. Careful to stay in character, everyone on stage exited, making it look as smooth as possible. Someone got onto the stage and made a quick announcement saying that we were having "technical difficulties" and would be back on as soon as we could. The director, Zoey, pulled us into a dressing room and started talking. "I've just received multiple notifications, messages, and calls. There has been a bad accident involving the following people: Lizzie's parents, Maddy's sister and mom, Kimberly's brother, and Luke's dad. Will Lizzie, Maddy, Kimberly, and Luke please see me privately? Everyone else can take a few minutes." 

Everyone except those mentioned left, and the room was silent. Zoey took a deep breath and said, "You all might want to sit down to hear what happened." We obeyed, and Zoey told us what happened. "Your families were carpooling to get here from their houses and got in a bad accident. It's unclear exactly what happened, but it seems that someone else was driving drunk, and the car with your families got hit pretty bad. They were driving through the country and were pushed into a huge forest." she paused, and said, "they're all currently in the hospital receiving treatment in the ICU. You can't visit them right now. Lizzie, I'm really sorry, but it seems your father has been killed, and everyone else has really serious injuries. It's unclear whether they'll survive or not." A single sob escaped from my lips, and soon we were all sobbing. Zoey looked around and said, "I'll have all of your understudies take the stage for you. You all can focus on your grieving. Don't worry about the show."
