It’s been one week since the beginning of the school year. In school, students learn about the history of the Third World War and a couple of things before it, the construction of guns since all of them will be using them in the future, and theories about esper powers. While with Lieutenant students were learning hand-to-hand combat and had basic physical training.
There were only four students that were exceptional in all of those subjects. There were three captains. Julia, Thomas, and Ivan. The fourth student was Misha. They already knew quite a lot about the things that they were teaching them. As for Osir, he was also good at most of the subjects except for history which he didn’t know anything about.
Physical training was the only time when Nolan could shine. He isn’t a smart person and has a hard time constructing a weapon. He was considered the third strongest person in hand-to-hand combat. Losing only to Thomas and Ivan.
As for the third person from the squad ZERO… She was at most average in physical tests and was hopeless with hand-to-hand combat. It was hard to tell if she was smart or not because she wasn’t paying much attention to classes and would rather watch the view out of the window. One time she broke from her cage and asked a good question to Professor Olsen.
-Will there be a chance to learn something else than fighting?
-That’s a good question, Miss Forester. Lieutenant Mayer probably was going to tell you that in a few weeks but there is nothing wrong with spoiling that. Some of you may already know but we categorize Esper soldiers into three classes. It’s as simple as characters in a game. There is a fighter, scout, and support. The fighter is an Esper whose power can be used best in fights. Scout is an Esper whose power is best used in reconnaissance. And there is support whose powers are able to provide assistance in any way. Of course, getting assigned as a scout doesn’t mean that he can’t be a fighter or support. That only means that he is “best suited” for that role.
-So what does each role train?- Asked a girl sitting in the middle row.
-Fighters don’t have much to learn. They will only learn how to use their powers in battle. Scouts will have to learn about geography and basic machinery. Supports will learn how to use their powers to help on both battlefields and behind the lines. Every one of you will learn basic first aid but the support will be taught to become a medic. Do you have any more questions? No? Okay. Then let us continue about the brain reaction while using esper powers.
Each squad talked about its roles. Trying to figure out who is going to be who. Some answers were obvious and some were not. Making some squads think that they are missing support or scouts. ZONE squad was arguing about who was going to be a fighter since they thought that all their abilities fit that role. Osir didn’t talk much with his squad. Usually, he would disappear from the class and no one knew where he went. This time Nolan stopped him before leaving.
-We have to talk as a squad. It’s very important.- Said, Nolan.
-What is it?- Asked Osir.
-Didn’t you listen? Even Emilie paid attention for the first time!
-Uh… Are you talking about me?- Asked Emilie, once she heard her name she woke up from her daze.
-Yeah… So I think my power is the most obvious that I would be the fighter. Emilie would be support and that would leave you as a scout.- Explained Nolan.
-Okay. Whatever.
-Then it’s settled… Wait. Whatever!? It’s very important.
-Why?
-Why?! Well… Uh… Emilie help me!
-What? With what?- Asked confused Emilie.
-With explaining how important roles are to O… Osir. Where did he go?
Two seconds were enough for Osir to escape Nolan. He went to the same place that he always goes. Only the school staff has access to the roof but Osir found a way. On a stairway to the highest level of the school are windows big enough to go through them and they are turned horizontally so he used them to stand and jump to the roof. He goes there for one simple reason. It’s the quietest place in the school.
Since the director said that he would reveal more information to Osir only if he accomplishes things in the school. He hopes that getting perfect grades is one of those accomplishments. The only subject that he is lacking is history. He spends the whole break reading about history. Then in class, he confirms what stories are true and which are made up.
Osir noticed something interesting from the roof. Something was being built on the training ground. It looked like a two-story building with one balcony. Something different was going to be at today’s lesson with Lieutenant. Osir watched closely and examined the layout of the building. He knew that it would be useful.
