Chapter 1 

In the boundless expanse of the cosmos, a weathered ship navigated through the interstellar void with a somber determination. Its once-sleek silhouette now bore the scars of countless journeys, its metallic exterior weathered and battered by the unforgiving challenges of space. It had seen better days, barely holding together on its mission. 

Adorned with an array of sensors, solar panels, and propulsion systems, this ship was a testament to the endurance of human engineering. Its graceful lines hid the wear and tear of a vessel that had pushed the boundaries of exploration time and time again. As it limped toward its final destination, carrying its precious cargo. The ship emitted a feeble hum, a weary announcement of its arrival.

That's when July slowly emerged from the depths of unconsciousness, the sensation of disorientation swept over her like a dark tide. Her surroundings were shrouded in an eerie darkness, and her heart quickened with an instinctive fear. Just as panic was about to seize her, a voice erupted from the silence. "Rise and shine, we have reached our destination!"

Startled by the abrupt intrusion, July's voice quivered as she spoke, "Uh, hello?"

Before her, the darkness began to take shape, revealing a holographic figure that exuded an air of mystery. It resembled a large wolf, its fur wild, and its eyes glowing a fiery red. His holographic form retained a sense of strength and readiness, with intricate details, glowing lines and wild hair, adding to his imposing appearance.

The wolf replied, his tone cryptic yet filled with anticipation. "Well, well, well, look who's awake. We've arrived three weeks ahead of schedule, which is great because we have a bit of a doozy here." 

As the initial numbness faded, July's thoughts ignited like a supernova. A rush of questions flooded her mind, and she drew a steadying breath to compose herself. After a thoughtful pause, she inquired, her voice now filled with curiosity, "Wait, what is going on, and who are you?" 

The wolf flicked hes tail. "Ahem. This is part of my programing, so please bare with me. Welcome to the planet Thalax, we are approximately 38.24 light-years away from planet Earth, it's the year 2929."

The wolf continued. "I am your on-board assistant, designed to assist you in various tasks such as navigation, survival, system monitoring, and data analysis. With access to advanced algorithms and computational power, I can calculate complex trajectories, process astronomical data, and ensure the efficient operation of our vessel throughout this mission. Additionally, I can provide real-time updates on the environmental conditions of this distant world, helping you make informed decisions as we explore the unknown." 

July couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the sudden turn of events. The last thing she remembered was falling asleep after her usual meal. She blinked in the dimly lit chamber, her furry ears twitching with uncertainty.

"38.24... light-years away from, Earth?" July stammered, trying to wrap her head around the astronomical distance. To her surprise, she understood what those words meant. "And you... you said you're my on-board assistant? Do you have a name?" She inquired, a hint of curiosity cutting through her initial apprehension.

With pride, he announced, "My name is Rex Savage."

"Rex Savage?" July repeated, her tone tinged with a touch of surprise. "That's quite a name. Well, Rex, can you help me understand what's happening? I feel like I've been thrust into a cosmic rabbit hole." But her attempt at humor was met with a dry chuckle from Rex, and she couldn't help but to wonder if she had chosen the wrong joke.

Rex's hologram explained. "July, our mission is of the out most importance. We have been dispatched from Earth to explore the depths of the cosmos and search for signs of extraterrestrial life. Your primary task is to survey this planet and report any findings back to Earth."

July's large, expressive eyes widened in shock. "Alien life?" She exclaimed. "Hold on, I'm just a normal rabbit. I can't explore the universe, I'm not qualified."

Rex paused for a moment, sensing July's hesitation. He knew it was time to reveal a crucial piece of information. "July," he began, "there's more to your story than you might be aware of. You are indeed a rabbit, but you're not just a regular rabbit. You are a highly advanced copy of a rabbit's brain from Earth, you are a form of Artificial Intelligence."

July's whiskers twitched with surprise. "A copy? That can't be right, why would anyone create a copy of me?"

Rex explained, "The original rabbit, the one you're based on, was a scientist's cherished pet back on Earth. Her name was Hazel. When the mission was first conceived, the scientists and engineers wanted a a mind that could adapt and respond to the complexities of space exploration. However, most humans couldn't handle the stress of being copied into an artificial body, alot of them had a existential crisis. Eventually, they realized that they needed a simpler type of mind to copy, one that would want to survive, and could adapt. That's why they chose a rabbit's mind as the foundation for your consciousness."

July blinked, absorbing this revelation. "So, I'm like an upgraded version of Hazel?"

"Yes," Rex confirmed. "You are a exploratory space rover of sorts, an android unit carefully designed and equipped to handle the unknowns of deep space. Your creators believed that your unique blend of animal instincts and careful nature would make you an ideal candidate for this mission."

As July processed this new understanding of her identity, a mix of emotions swirled within her. "Wow, that is a lot to take in. You were right; this is quite a doozy."

"Actually, that was part of your debriefing. The real problem is that this vessel is damaged beyond repair. Commencing emergency orbital entry," Rex spoke as he saluted with his paw.

As July asked, "What do-" the room lit up with various red lights and blaring alarms. 

Before she could comprehend her surroundings, the door violently opened up venting all the air into space. July was suddenly thrust into the cold, empty void, her heart pounding with panic.

She tumbled through the starlit abyss, disoriented and weightless, her astronaut's helmet and pink vest fluttering in the vacuum. In the distance, the enigmatic planet Thalax loomed, an alien world bathed in an eerie, purplish glow.

July was terrified as she hurtled toward the planet's surface.
