🔥Conner's POV🔥
I never realized how great it was to not be shaking in your boots out of fear until I had decided to ask Luke out.
And by ‘ask him out’ I mean just kiss him until I could actually muster the courage to do something.
I never even considered myself a procrastinator until a two weeks had passed and I didn't do a single fucking thing.
If anything Luke looked more nervous around me than normal.
It was this never ending circle of frustration and I was done with it.
I was asking out Luke tomorrow and it was final.
—————
I stormed through the school doors preparing myself as best I could.
I would go to where Luke and his friends met up in the morning and then and there ask him out.
But then I caught sight of him smiling with Sean, a carefree expression on his face as Aubrey seemed to tease an annoyed Layla.
And just like that I doubted myself.
That was their special spot and it wasn't even eight thirty in the morning. Who asks someone out like that.
Well, not me anymore.
I continued walking trying to ignore the delicious feeling that ran through me when I felt Luke's stare.
I looked back with just enough time to bite my lip and send him a killer grin. His wide eyes and flushed cheeks made me extremely happy with my decision.
So what if I had to wait even longer to ask him? I still had the rest of the school day and tomorrow we were heading downtown.
I would get to it eventually.
—————
I struggled to look excited when our group started pointing out some guy on stilts.
I don't know how I let another whole day pass without even trying to ask Luke out.
Doing it while we had our morning make out session didn't seem right so I tried once our first class ended but he seemed so eager to get to his next class I didn't want to stall him. Then lunch came but it felt awkward to just call him away because he always seemed nose deep in a conversation and the moment he finished one he was on to the other. And when school ended I was just too nervous and just waved as he walked away.
I didn't know if I would ever work up the courage. It was as if now that I already had this great relationship with him, the risk tripled.
So I just had to pout in my head and try to look pleasant.
It really was fun though we passed by several stands samples and even got some churros (courtesy of yours truly) but it really got fun when we got to the stage and a Latino band was playing a Nicky Jam song.
"Oh this is my song!" Kian yelled to us over the music. "Damien, Conner, we have to show them the dance!"
Shit.
This intrigued the rest of our group and I didn't even have time to protest before we were on the dance floor and my feet were a blur.
My parents had been into salsa and ballroom dancing but were never able to do it so they made me do it as a kid.
When Kian and Damien's parents had seen a video of me doing a routine when I was five they pushed my friends to attend classes as well and the next thing you know we could dance.
I didn't do much ballroom or Latino styled couples dances much any more since I ended up getting into hip hop but every once in a while my friends would convince me to learn a routine with them and one of those routines happened to be to a Nicky Jam song.
That was playing right now.
They were laughing and cheering at this point and once the actual choreography ended Kian pulled Aubrey with him and started leading her on the dance.
Damien went for Hunter and despite my shaking hands I took Luke.
"Grab my shoulder," I mumbled next to his ear and felt the familiar warmth of his hand. "Just follow my lead alright? One and two and one two three. And one and two . . . there it is!"
Luke's eyes lit up with excitement and he let out a laugh when I spun myself around.
"I think you're supposed to spin me Conner." Even that sentence was giggled and his eyes were squinted with his smile.
"Well, I don't really agree but fine, I'll spin you," I fake whined before spinning Luke. "Actually you were right."
Luke humphed in triumph and I noticed out of the corner of my eye Sean and Layla's heads were pressed together as they danced.
I didn't say anything but my eyes lingered enough for Luke to follow my look and turn back towards me, his smile bigger than ever.
"I'm glad Damien took Hunter," And I laughed because that was such a Luke thing to say. And because I loved him. And because I was going to ask him out.
I bent down until my forehead was pressed against Luke's.
"Hey Luke?" I asked quietly, my voice coming out low.
"Yeah?" He looked me straight in the eyes and I knew that this was it.
This was the perfect moment.
"Will you go out with me?" Luke froze, his eyes widening and his lips opening wide.
And then he bit his lip and the next moment his lips were on mine and I wasn't sure who kissed who but Luke nodded yes and I was kissing him and everything was perfect.
There might have been hooting and whistling but it was so far in the distance it probably had nothing to do with us.
At some point I finally pulled away, Luke chasing my lips as I went, and realized that my hand was in his hair and my pants were getting uncomfortable because his hand had made it under my shirt and was having a little too much fun.
Hunter looked eager to make a comment but before he could even try I was silencing him.
"Don't you even dare."
