The others were shocked. They had never heard the shy third wife speak so much at once the entire time they had lived together. Even she looked shocked that she had managed to volunteer herself for a task that posed much risk. Both wives knew that leaving the palace without the consent of the Prince and not returning would infuriate the Prince and they knew that even if their plan ended up saving the kingdom that there would be a price they would pay for their actions. The Prince would take this as a slight against himself and they would have a heavy punishment to face. Regardless, this palace was their home, and they were ready to do anything necessary to protect it. The Princess once again regarded the wife who had spoken, and seeming to find the answer she was looking for, nodded her consent. With the plan in place the women discussed avenues in which to communicate and back up plans for any possible mishaps that could happen.
It would be only a couple days later, when the Prince gave the two wives permission to leave the castle grounds, that they would enact their plan. As they had plotted, the two women slipped out the back door of the dress store they were in and, unnoticed by the Prince’s men and attendants, snuck down the back alleys towards two waiting horses. Soon they were riding their way towards the city gates and after a few close calls, were speeding down the outside roads to their planned destinations, their hearts filled with the determination to protect those close to them.
Later, the Prince would think it was a kidnapping, per the testimony of his staff who had been there when it happened. Unbeknownst to him, the Princess had paid them off prior to the excursion and they played the part of the distressed staff, desperately searching for the missing wives and screaming that they had been taken as instructed. THey had made a scene of the whole event and public opinion was now firmly behind the idea of a kidnapping. Even when the Prince was later suspicious, he could not change the tide of public opinion and could not express his displeasure without risking losing trust and opinion with his people. The Princess knew that the Prince would suspect she had planned it, but she never moved her pieces until she was certain that her path to victory was set.
Over the next couple months, the women stayed in contact through secret messages and hidden signals as they countered and eventually overcame the enemy. The Prince had continued his floundering ways and soon discontent with him grew within the people. It was slowly leaked of his slow response and blatant incompetence and ignorance by the Princess, while tales of the heroic deeds of the wives were spread all across the land. Soon, people were expecting the Princess to be the one credited with the victory of the homeland, along with the wives and the Prince was none too happy.
