I've felt like the most horrific hypocrite, writing this fiction comic while the country I live in (the US) is aiding state violence in the real world. It feels a little silly to say this in the author's note here, but I needed to say it /somewhere/, I've felt so impotent. May we have a ceasefire in Gaza, may all the occupied peoples of the world someday see peace and liberation.
Despite the promises of the last twenty years, the Isahek river is flooding again. When a tax collector is shot by its banks, the provincial court must respond to the rising violence. The members of the court vie for control, all the while their system of governance is on a steep decline. A story about environmental disaster, “rational” governance, and what it means to have power over death.
