As the dust settles, shouts and jolly laughter reach the ears of a Black Fox. The God of Death, shrouded in intense green flames, surveys the remnants of his now lost children. The viridescent blaze spread on his chest, shoulders and wrists flares up as anger and grief swirl in him, creating a terrifying storm. As drops of rain sizzle and hiss and the heat of his fire grows and expands, his companion takes a step back, their otherwise beautiful face twisting with fear and guilt. The companion in question is a beautiful white rabbit, with fluffy lilac hair that descends down her back and fades into pure white, matching her equally soft fur, God of Life they call her. The rain however, leaves her drenched and whereas she usually looks imposing and alluring, her current image reflects her state more accurately, pathetic and repulsive. Another round of boisterous shouts hits Death's ears and he turns to his companion, eyes reflecting the emotions tearing up his heart.
“Did you know?” His breath grows labored, as Death advances towards his companion, his expression growing more ferocious as he marches closer towards Life. She keeps as she watches him warily, feeling fear for the first time in her life.
“Answer me! Did you know about this Kaguya?!” He roars at her, unleashing his power without restraint, without concern for his surroundings.
She flinches at the volume of his voice and reaches out towards Death, to him who is her brother. “Yes… Yes I did Zedos but please calm down. You–You’re unleashing too much Soul! You don't want to kill the forest!”
She gulps with difficulty and pleads with the Fox, her ruby eyes shining with guilt. She fears his wrath and what it might lead him to do against mortals, who acted unknowingly and let their prejudice guide their actions.
“I beg of you brother, do not kill them. They know not what they have done. They never could’ve guessed who they were threatening—”
“So their ignorance can excuse the sin they have committed?” Zedos laments as his eyes bore into Kaguya’s. “Their lack of knowledge of my power and my son, who does not have an evil bone in his body, excuses their actions? Where's the understanding for his ignorance of them?!” Hellhounds materialize at his feet as Zedos vents his frustration at his sister. His power lashes out and his wrath leaves the forest barren and destroyed in a radius over 50 miles. It’s like life itself ran from Zedos’ power as the entire area is drained of all energy, only leaving the sound of the wind in its absence. Kaguya steps back, her usual cold demeanor shattering as tears fill her eyes. “No I didn't—"
“This wasn't some random god or a hidden power and my relationship with him was nothing like you and your phoenix." He says as he steps closer, the hellhounds skulking around in an agitated manner. Feeling the overwhelming power oozing out of him from anger alone, Kaguya weeps as she grips with her inability to intervene directly, her façade of composure gone as she dreads to look Zedos in the eye.
Zedos looks around with a cold stare as tense silence fills the air and raindrops mask the rabbit’s tears. “I'm… sorry sister but not for lashing out. I’m sorry for believing in the mortals, for believing I could take a step back and not interfere.” Zedos murmurs as he blames himself for straying from his role.
“While you stay here and watch passively, I will fulfill my role, as the shepherd of souls and the judge of the damned.” He walks past Kaguya with an aura of Death that chills the air. With his hellhounds not far behind, he departs, heading towards the festival on the forest's edge. A festival that is held in the honor of heroes that have slain a Demon.
