A couple more days of preparation and Kugo is sitting restless in school with heavy eye bags underneath his hazel eyes. He finds himself struggling to stay awake. The teacher droned on and on, only challenging Kugo to stay awake even more. Finally, the teacher stopped talking and Kugo was approached by an overwhelming Hirota.
“You know, it’s never too late to give up.” Hirota mocked.
Kugo didn’t say a word, he wanted to talk but he couldn’t. It felt like there was a force on his neck making it impossible to talk, let alone breathe.
“We won’t be giving up, Kugo’s arguably one of the best players in the school.” Seto said while approaching them.
“I don’t know.” Hirota said teasingly.
“I might’ve found someone better.”
Seto’s eyes widened. “Oh, yeah? Who?”
“It’s a surprise!” Hirota cheerfully shouted.
Kugo is startled from the shout, He sighed. Hirota chuckled and walked away. Seto looked at Kugo.
“Are you okay?” Seto asked.
“I haven’t been sleeping.”
“I’m alright to play today,” Kugo assured.
“Our first match isn’t until school is over and all of the clubs finish their activities.” Seto said.
“You should go home and get some sleep, okay?” Seto says while patting Kugo’s back.
Kugo nodded. He made it through the tough day of school and headed home.
Seto decided to do the same, he didn’t have any after-school activities. Seto stayed at the Dragon Fire Esports house with the five starting players, his sister Yuki and his older brother Mark.
There was a 16 year old Charm Osaka. She is pretty, tall and strong. She has a fair tan and long luxurious light brown hair that complimented her hazel eyes. She was also half american. Her in game name is: Ch4rm
Next to her sitting on their computers, Oishi and Ouji Tomeo both of them have pale skin and dark green hair that complimented their dark green eyes. The distinguishing quality between these twins was a small beauty mark on Oishi’s right eye. Next week would be their 18th birthday.
Oishi’s in game name: Yetea
Ouji’s in game name: Piggy
In the kitchen looking for a snack was Hyun Xiao, he was tall and had porcelain skin, he had scruffy dark brown hair and brown eyes. He had a slender build with long fingers which made him believe that was the reason he was so good. He already won multiple accolades such as rookie of the year without even touching the professional league.
Hyun’s in game name: XoXo
In this intricate gaming house there was a review room that mimicked a theater room, it was a bit smaller but big enough that huge teams and organizations could view games in. Inside this dimly lit room lies Ryuko, he was rewatching a scrimmage that took place earlier in the year against a high profile team. Ryuko was tall and had long black hair that went down to his mouth, he didn’t care for tying it up so he often just pinned it behind his headphones. He had bags under his eyes that never quite went away and he had very dark brown eyes. He was also very pale from the lack of sunlight.
Ryuko’s in game name: Ryoto
For the most part, Seto and Yuki stayed out of the team's way. They didn’t contribute much besides being the manager's little siblings. The Hajime family was very prestigious in their own right, Seto’s father was a boss for a very popular corporation that he manufactured himself while his mother was a clothes designer who grabbed the attention of everyone from all over. Fearing that his siblings weren’t getting the affection they needed with his parents Mark agreed to take them in.
This meant Mark didn’t want them getting in the way of anything related to the team unless he asked, Seto often tuned into scrimmages or watched them when they had a big match which is how he dragged himself out of the lower ranks. Seto’s also good friends with Ryuko and Hyun.
Yuki on the other hand wanted more than to just watch, at first she’d sit around and watch the games and scrimmages with Seto. Everything changed when she played her first ranked game, since then she’s been determined to prove herself to Mark and join the team even if that means she’s a substitute.
Today is an off-day normally the team would be practicing. However, Mark agrees that he’s been putting them through a lot of tough scrimmages and practices.
At Kugo’s house, it’s empty. His mom and dad are at work and he’s alone. He lays on his bed and sighs. He yawns and stretches before curling up in bed. In a blink of an eye Kugo is woken up just an hour later by Seto’s text messages. Kugo stands up and gets onto his computer, he logs in and joins Seto’s party.
Their first opponents for the tournament joined their Spellcasters party with the usernames, Mercy & Strawberry
As they loaded into the game, a silence entered Kugo’s head. Ryotos words echoed around. He wanted to try something new but decided to go with his usual fire element, as he looked at Setos pick he realized Seto had chosen his usual lightning element.
On the right side of the screen he saw his enemies elemental picks, this is used in Spellcasters to prevent players not knowing the enemies elements which would cause an unfair advantage.
“Hey, Kugo.” Seto said.
“Hmm?” Kugo replied.
“Let’s win.”
Mercy was using the poison element while Strawberry was using earth. The start of the game was electric, Seto got him and Kugo into a great starting position by eliminating both Mercy and Strawberry. This put them in the lead by two points. And then, something changed in Mercy and Strawberry’s playstyle, it felt like an instant adaptation.
Mercy shot a line of acid at Kugo, Kugo evaded it and was met with Strawberry’s earth ramp. This sent Kugo high into the air.
“Don’t worry, I’m right behind you.” Seto shouted while launching himself into the air using his electricity.
As Seto glided towards the ground, he equipped his sword and steadied it in the air. Strawberry used the bottom of her glaive on Seto’s chest, sending him into the ground. She stabbed her glaive into the ground causing a piece of the ground to launch Seto upwards again.
Kugo was starstruck. This amount of coordination and determination was new to him.
He flew back down to the ground, but not before Mercy threw a puddle of poison.
This caused Kugo to change his direction in the air with the use of a fire blast, Mercy launched into the air and met Kugo mid way, they both clashed their swords into each others.Mercy was using the poison element while Strawberry was using earth. The two swords clashed with a loud clang, sparks flying everywhere. Kugo and Mercy were evenly matched, neither one able to gain an advantage.
Back on the ground Strawberry saw her opportunity and launched a barrage of earth spikes at Seto. Seto was able to dodge most of them, but one spike grazed his arm.
Kugo saw Seto in trouble, he landed on the ground and used his fire to create a wall between Strawberry and Seto. Strawberry was forced to retreat, and just when they thought they were safe. Mercy appeared, she simply walked through the fire wall, grinning.Mercy’s sword quickly developed a green aura, her eyes lit into a neon green. She swung her sword at Kugo, he dodges and shoots fire out of his mouth. Mercy quickly sidesteps past his attack and lunges at him. In a split second, Seto shot a chain of electricity at Mercy.
The moment it touched her she was sent flying into a tree.
“Thanks.” Kugo said.
“Of course!” Seto said,
The ground beneath Seto rumbled, rocks quickly protruded sending Seto into the air.
For a second, Kugo was confused.. He realized he completely forgot about Strawberry. During the short amount of time that he and Seto were focused on Mercy, Strawberry was busy flanking.
Strawberry formed squares of dirt in mid air, she jumped to each one that led up to Seto. She swung her sword at Seto, he forms a lightning bolt and strikes her, sending her back down towards Kugo.
Kugo swung his sword with a quick upward motion causing an explosion of fire eliminating Strawberry.
At this point in the game, the time wasn’t enough for Mercy and Strawberry to make a comeback. The game ended, at the end of the game Kugo and Seto talked to Mercy and Strawberry.
“Wow, you guys are good.” Mercy said using the in game voice chat.
“You almost had us for a second, I was getting worried.” Seto said innocently.
“That move you guys did was amazing! I wasn’t expecting it at all.” Strawberry said.
Kugo listened to them talk, he wondered why it wasn’t as easy for him to talk.
“Asprince, you’re really good!” Mercy said.
Kugo’s eyes lit up, he barely was able to get his words out.
“Thank you.”
They chatted for a while until Mercy and Strawberry left.
