The timeline for this chapter is around a few years after Zov'ha became captain. Her ancestral home is close to Aztravek Valley, which is in the outskirts of Asenya, close to Hell's Teeth Mountains. She gets a strange visit from someone from her past during one of her morning patrols.
The light sticks she carries around is a popular device used in Asenya at night. They are called "glowchimes". They are pretty sturdy and cheap to manufacture. Pilgrims often use it in their travels.
