My mother’s eyes pierced me sharply as if looking for something, anything more than what I could’ve
already told her. “A mere child…” she went on. “You’re saying that a child communicated to you within
your mind and that their pupils went white, correct?” I nodded repeatedly, hoping to get more insight
on Aptus. She paused for a moment and began to pace around the room, murmuring to herself in the
process. The scene was something I wasn’t quite familiar with, mother usually was very passive
when it came to conversations about Aptus.
As my mother slowly began to drift further into deeper thought, I decided to bring my attention to the book Mr. Leon gave, hoping to find some answers for myself.
Book of the All-Knowing. Although it wasn’t stated directly, it’s easy to assume what the contents could
contain. I scanned through the book swiftly, without a care.
Some sections covered Martial Arts and their different forms as well, explaining how forms could be the same but used differently depending on mastery. The book even went on to describe the general landscape of our Kingdom, Kaldris, and others like the Kingdoms of Drelan, Merian, and Preaya. Could something like this even be okay to have? I could only imagine if the creator of this book was a spy selling information to others.
Found you. After flipping through enough pages to give me a paper cut, I finally approached the only section that held my curiosity, Aptus. However...
“Ah, is that the book Leon gave you? Honestly, I don’t know what goes on through that turbulent mind
of his,” Mother said suddenly next to my ear as she leaned over peering at the contexts of the book,
catching me off guard. “This book isn’t something a boy at your age should be reading, you’re just a
couple of years too soon my love.” She finished.
“I see,” I replied, slightly struck at her response. I thought that if Mother saw how enthusiastic I was on
learning then maybe, just maybe she’d give me more opportunities than just heading off to Mr. Leon
when actually, I’d just been given a babysitter who would occasionally answer questions I had, and not
receiving actual training.
Feeling a bit bitter, I decided to get up and slowly dragged my way to my room. “I’m not too hungry
tonight, so I’ll head to bed early. Good Night.” I announced as I picked up my coat before heading into
one of the only other rooms that were still intact somehow.
I turned around before entering, giving my mother a reassuring smile as she lightly frowned at my
departing words. She let out a sigh, “Tomorrow, you’ll receive training from me, how does that sound?
Although I may not be as good as Leon anymore.” She responded, smiling gently and giving away a slight
chuckle.
I stood there speechless. I didn’t think of a mother any more than that of a housewife or simply someone with no real combat experience.
"What's that look on your face? Did you just compare my strength to that of a housewife? In that case, then it seems that Mr. Leon will enjoy your company tomorrow morning after all!" her expression seemed to change just as fast as she replied with a reddened face.
"I've said no such things! oh powerful and all-knowing mother, Your kindness is too much!" I responded hurriedly, bowing in thanks and also forgiveness before swiftly entering my room, and throwing myself in the bed. "Now, where was I?" I said aloud, turning on the small lantern powered by a fire element that seemed to appear instantaneously. The phenomenon had me for a moment. I knew questioning it wouldn't help me right now. And so, I brought out the book I kept wrapped inside my coat and began my dive.
"The world's blessing and soul's companion, Aptus." I didn't even try to hide the smile reaching both sides of my face. I'm sorry, but I need the original text to be able to rewrite it. Could you please provide it to me?
