Devin had just arrived at his literary café. He was still a few hours away from opening but, as always, he liked to arrive early, to arrange everything and start turning on the various machinery.
He also liked to arrange books on the tables, so that customers already found something to read while waiting to be served. He had always used this method, he knew that the most curious would open those books and, even if perhaps they were not of their favorite genre, they could appreciate them and get out of their usual comfort zone.
He still had a couple of books in his hands and, as he was carefully choosing where to place them, his cell phone rang. He ignored it, momentarily, books had precedence.
When he finally had his hands free, he took one last look at the tables. He was a control freak and wanted everything to be perfect.
«Okay, that’s good.» he said satisfied with his work.
Only when he heard the other four insistent sounds did he decide to take his phone from his pocket.
Devin's face heated up as soon as he saw the notifications on the screen. He didn't even need to open the messages. He could already read what was written.
He didn't think it was possible that Harper would actually contact him, he thought he just wanted his number out of courtesy. Instead he had unexpectedly written to him and not what Devin expected.
