The Reincarnated Assassin is a Swordsmaster
Chapter 4
Carried by Sylvia, Raon headed to the main building of the Sieghart mansion for the first time.
Is that the one?
He could see it from afar. The building was so tall it seemed to touch the sky, and it was so wide he couldn’t see the entire structure at once.
He wouldn’t have been surprised if it was referred to as a palace instead of a mansion.
It fit the title of “Ruler of the North.”
Although House Sieghart was a family, they possessed more land and military power than the kingdom itself. They certainly counted as one of the Six Lords.
So that’s where they all live?
According to Helen, the rest of the main family members, except for Raon and Sylvia, lived near the main building close to the head’s mansion.
There was probably a reason only Sylvia lived in the annex, but she never explained it.
Discernment Ceremony...?
Raon thought about the Discernment Ceremony being held today as he looked over the head’s mansion, which was located in the center of the main building.
Is this even necessary?
A child’s skull, which unfused at birth, began to close around the age of four, and the child’s innate talent did not change.
This ceremony was meant to gather the children whose skulls had closed and determine their talent for mana.
Whatever happens, it doesn’t matter to me.
Even though his talent was low, the Flame Link would pull up his physical and mana sensitivity to the maximum. Innate talents that you were born with weren’t related to him in any way.
“Raon.”
Sylvia lifted him higher up as he was slowly spinning the Flame Link. When he looked to the side, they had already arrived at the main building.
“Mommy doesn’t care what you do. All I want is for you to be healthy.”
“Okay.”
He gave her a bright smile like an innocent child.
“How did I give birth to such an adorable boy?!”
She began rubbing her face on his cheek once again. When this happened, it always lasted at least five minutes.
“Ahem, Lady Sylvia.”
“Oh, sorry!”
Sylvia came back to reality at Helen’s interruption. Raon was glad she’d gathered herself.
“Let’s go inside. We’re a bit late.”
“Okay.”
She went inside the head’s mansion, carrying him.
Hmm...
Raon squinted his eyes, looking around at the people inside the building.
None of these are ordinary people.
There was not a single normal person inside the head’s mansion. Not only the martial artists, but even their servants and handmaidens had flames in their eyes.
“We’ll arrive soon. Be patient.”
“Okay.”
Raon and Sylvia walked along the central hallway on the first floor. At the end of it, there was a huge steel door that was tall enough for even giants to pass through. This was the entrance of the drawing room where the Discernment Ceremony was being held.
“Sylvia Sieghart, Raon Sieghart, Helen Carvin. All confirmed.”
The martial artist attending the drawing room spun around and opened the gate for them.
With the creaking sound of steel being twisted, the star-filled world welcomed them.
Vibrantly colored lights poured down from the ceiling, and lavish ornaments adorned the golden walls.
This astounding place was the drawing room where one could meet Glenn Sieghart, the lord of the house.
With the sound of the door closing, everyone in the room looked towards Raon.
“Sylvia? Wait, then that boy is her...”
“What kind of child’s face is…?”
“Blonde hair and crimson eyes.”
“He’s small. I heard he’s ill. It must’ve been true.”
“It only makes sense since he’s inherited a failure’s blood.”
“Or you should say, a straggler.”
Strangers always showed interest in Raon. Of course, it was never positive interest.
Because he was young, he could feel the raw emotions emanating from them.
“I can’t believe he’s allowed in here.”
“Is it necessary for a straggler’s child to attend the Discernment Ceremony?”
“Exactly. What a disgrace.”
He wasn’t sure what they were talking about, but it was obvious they were criticizing him and Sylvia.
Hmm...
Raon fidgeted with his fists. He didn’t mind them saying that he was small, but hearing them criticize Sylvia made his heart ache.
“It’s okay, Raon. Just look at me.”
She smiled at him even after being called a failure and disgrace.
I knew she was strong.
Sylvia was a strong woman. Her kind voice calmed his pounding heart.
They must be the main family.
After calming down, Raon looked around until his eyes stopped at the top of the podium.
Seven people were sitting on red chairs.
They were looking down at the people below with an air of superiority.
They’re on another level.
If the branch families were foxes and wolves, the main family members on the podium emanated an overwhelming presence like dragons that had already reached the sky.
Though they didn’t open their mouths like the branch family members, they regarded Raon and Sylvia with disdain, as if they were looking at garbage.
Are they all enemies?
Just when he was thinking that this family was messed up, Sylvia headed to the seat at the bottom end, not on the podium.
Odd.
He had many questions. Normally, there were uncrossable walls between the main family and branch family members. It was such a bizarre thing for branch family members to clearly pick fights.
Sylvia lived separately on her own and wasn’t able to sit above the podium. It was clear she was being discriminated against even though she was part of the main family.
What’s the reason?
Considering they called her a straggler, perhaps she lost in a battle or something.
Thump!
While Raon was wondering about the reason for the discrimination, the martial artists standing in front of the drawing room thumped the floor with their spears.
“Glenn Sieghart, the honorable Head of House Sieghart, who governs the northern territories, has arrived!”
The enormous steel door of the drawing room opened in sync with the announcement.
Glenn Sieghart made his entrance, emanating an overwhelming aura that seemed to make the air quiver.
Just his appearance alone made gravity seem heavier, and hearts tightened in his presence. The tension was so high that it felt as though one’s breath could be easily stifled.
“Welcome, our lord.”
The dragons who were looking down from above the podium and the wolves who were showing their teeth kneeled down simultaneously.
Those footsteps...
With the same cold and hard footsteps that Raon had heard five years ago, Glenn Sieghart made his entrance. He sat on the golden throne, emanating an absolute presence that seemed to press down on the entire drawing room.
“Begin.”
As he snapped his finger, a sword shot up in the middle of the room. It was a massive weapon of stone that even a giant would struggle to wield.
That must be the sword of discernment.
That sword was from a thousand years ago, and it identified a person’s mana abilities when one put their hand over it.
The purpose of this Discernment Ceremony was to identify children’s talent using the power of the stone sword.
“First, Warren Sieghart.”
As the name was announced, a six-year-old boy with blue hair sitting on the second row stood up.
“Please put your hand over the sword.”
As he stepped down to the podium, the announcer pointed at the stone sword. Warren nodded and put his hand over the sword.
Vwoom.
The green light that bloomed at his fingertips covered the entire sword, and a strong wind started blowing from its tip.
“Ooh!”
“Wind! It’s wind!”
“Seeing that the light is emanating from the entire sword, the quality of mana is exceptional!”
“His talent suits him as Lord Karun’s son!”
“Congratulations!”
The branch family members standing below the podium continued to applaud and rejoice for the middle-aged man sitting in front of Warren.
“It’s a good element that suits a swordsman. Make sure to focus on feeling the wind.”
“Yes, I will!”
As Glenn nodded, Warren smiled brightly, like a sunflower facing the sun, and returned to his seat.
“Next, Runan Sleorn from the vassal family.”
“Yes.”
A silver-haired girl who was sitting at the end of the podium stood up quietly.
Ah, House Sleorn.
Like the nobles who followed the king, vassal families were reputable families of the northern territory who followed House Sieghart.
She must’ve been sitting on the podium along with the main family because House Sleorn was the leader of the vassal families.
Vwoom.
The girl named Runan stepped towards the stone sword with calm eyes and put her hand over it.
Fwish!
As her hand touched it, a silver light that resembled the moon shot up from the end of the blunt blade.
The light didn’t only fill up the entire blade but also climbed up the swordsman, creating a silver frost over the entire scene.
“Frost? On the entire sword?!”
“That talent is comparable to Lord Warren’s...”
“She lives up to the name of House Sleorn.”
“Another genius from House Sleorn has been born.”
However, the sound of rejoicing and applause wasn’t as loud as the ones for Warren. It seemed as if there was competition between the vassal and branch families.
“What a good element. As long as you refine it as a blade, you’ll be able to pierce through any energy with it.”
Glenn Sieghart also nodded for Runan.
“Thank you,” she said, bowing without any significant facial expression before hopping back to her seat like a cat.
From there, children from two main family members, numerous branch families, and vassal families put their hands over the stone sword, but none had talent comparable to Warren’s and Runan’s.
I get it now.
Raon flicked his fingers. After watching other people’s Discovery Ceremonies, he could figure out which results were good and which were bad.
The length of the light represented the purity of mana, and the element of mana appeared from the end of the swordsman.
When the quality was outstanding, the entire sword flashed like it did for Runan or Warren, and the special element of mana could be discerned by looking at the swordsman.
“Lastly, Raon Sieghart. Please approach.”
“Let’s go, Raon.”
“Okay.”
He nodded and Sylvia smiled cutely and lifted him up.
“Do just like what the other children did.”
Sylvia put him down in front of the stone sword and extended out her hand for demonstration.
“Okay,” he answered and looked at the sword.
The result won’t be good.
Although he had reached 2 stars for the Flame Link, he still had a surprising amount of cold energy left in his mana circuit.
Considering his current body condition, he wouldn’t be able to produce outstanding lights like the other children.
“Huu...”
He slowly exhaled and reached his arm toward the sword.
As his hand touched it, a wave began in his heart, much like a pebble dropped into a pond. The small pounding soon resonated throughout his entire body, beyond just his chest.
Huh?
When he was about to take his hand away due to the strange feeling, it flashed brightly right in front of his eyes.
He saw a silver-armored man with blonde hair.
There were waves of monsters heading right for him.
What’s this?
Although he was certain it was a hallucination, it felt so vivid that he was sweating from his forehead.
The man lifted up the sword, but he couldn’t even breathe properly, his hands shaking.
Extremely beautiful golden flames climbed up the blade.
He swung down his sword wrapped in flames like lightning.
At that moment, the golden flames that shot up the land covered the world.
When he closed and opened his eyes to avoid the golden flames that filled up the entire sight, the world had changed back again, and a window popped up in front of him.
[Flame Link (2-star) is being acquired.]
[You failed to acquire ???]
[More achievement is required.]
When he tilted his head after reading the incomprehensible messages, light began shooting up from the stone sword.
Vwoom.
However, the light that was climbing up quickly lost its power and stopped in the middle of the sword.
He didn’t have either special abilities or high purity like other people. The talent was nowhere close to the ones from the branch families, let alone the main family.
“It’s over already?”
“It didn’t even go half way!”
“Bwahahaha! I’ve never seen such a tiny amount!”
“Not only is the quality bad, but it’s also white, which means there’s no power.”
“There’s nothing to look at other than his appearance.”
“I suppose the child of a runaway isn’t even protected by the martial god.”
The main family members frowned with disdain after watching the ceremony, while the branch families laughed out loud.
Even Glenn, who gave short advice to everyone, didn’t bother to open his mouth.
“It’s okay. Raon. You did great.”
Sylvia carried him, smiling as usual, and Helen, who came close, covered his ears while biting her lip.
“Huu...” Raon breathed out slightly.
He was used to being looked down upon. Since he had been trained as a dog, not a human, and been brainwashed, he had abandoned his emotions a long time ago. He had no problem taking any criticism or insult.
He was planning to leave as soon as he obtained what he needed; whatever happened here wasn’t any of his concern.
Although Sylvia and the handmaidens treated him like they were a real family, that decision hadn’t changed.
However, he felt strangely depressed now.
His heart tingled as if it were being electrocuted, watching people laugh at Sylvia and Helen on top of himself.
Fine.
Raon gently clenched his jaw.
Sylvia and the handmaidens were the first people who treated me like a human being.
So he decided he would have to show all of them—every person who was making fun of them—how worthless their inborn talents were.
“I’ve attended every Discernment Ceremony, but I’ve never seen such a disgrace.”
“Is he really a Sieghart?”
“Even the talent Sylvia had seems to have gone to waste. There’s nothing to look at other than the blonde hair and crimson eyes that resemble the lord of the house.”
Raon made sure to memorize all the faces that had spat out such mockery.
“Enough.”
The entire drawing room froze with Glenn’s chilling voice.
“The ceremony is over. Everyone leave.”
“Your Grace?”
“Do I need to repeat myself? Everyone dismissed.”
As Glenn’s second son, Karun Sieghart, got up, the others left the room glancing at each other.
Of course, they murmured criticisms about Raon and Sylvia while leaving.
Less than five minutes passed before the only ones left in the drawing room were Glenn Sieghart and his butler Loen.
“We’ll have to accept it.”
Glenn nodded calmly, looking at the sword of discernment in the center.
“Your Grace...”
Loen was about to approach him, when with a cracking sound, the light suddenly shot up from the bottom of the sword to the end of the swordsman and beyond the blade.
Fwaaa!
The light was deep golden like the sun, and flames were burning from the end of the swordsman.
“Golden flames?”
A hurricane raged in Glenn’s eyes for the first time.
