chapter 3 - how does this happen? (part one) (bianca's pov)
Nov 29, 2023
The hard part was done. Now all she had to figure out was where she was going, that couldn't be too hard. Right.
He wouldn't follow her. That was borderline creepy behaviour. And Isiah didn't seem like a creep, did he? After all, you can't judge a book by its cover. But what was that, that car? She keeps seeing it around. It looks like Isiah's car, could she be sure it wasn't? Yes, it was the same model and colour but a trendy car and colour. She had seen at least 3 other cars that looked the same today. But still... What if he was actually following her? What if this wasn't paranoia but instinct? Could she trust this gut feeling? Was it worth it to call the police. No. But she could call ~someone~.
ring ring.

"Bianca?"
"Emily!"
"why are you calling?"
"I'm pretty sure this dude is following me"
"gee, thanks for the context"
"Oh. Sorry. So basically, I crashed my bike into a hedge, then I got into this stranger's car and we reached Billingshurst and I just dropped my bike off at a repair place so it can be fixed and I keep seeing the guy's car around"
"hold on, what the actual heck. Why on earth would you get in a stranger's car?"
"before you lecture me on how dumb I am, he was cute ok"
"wow. That makes it all better. he was cute so you get into his car. that's how people get kidnapped, and molested, this is how human trafficking happens Bianca!"
"ok chill out I'm fine. no human trafficking has happened." "but you just said he's following you"
"I said I thought he was following me. There's a difference"
"Just make sure you aren't kidnapped. and don't get into any more stranger's cars"
"I won't"
That was it. The call was over. And the car was still following her. Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god what the heck was happening? She was going to get kidnapped. No Bianca. No negative thoughts. It'll be fine. Just take one step, one foot in front of the other. Just keep walking, take a look in the shop window. Oooo. That's a pretty dress. And those were cute jeans. It's a pity they were out of her price range. Alright, window shopping, that's a good distraction. Or I could go into that cafe, and get a drink. That would calm me down—one foot in front of the other. You can do this Bianca. She was not getting kidnapped today.
The inside of the cafe had a very calming effect. The walls were a sagey-foresty green, the whole place had a very naturey effect. The shelves that lined the walls had your stereotypical trinkets. Bags of coffee grounds, a few pot plants. But what really set this place apart was the vines creeping up the shelves. It was almost like the outside world was brought in. Ok, Bianca. You can do this. Let's go order a coffee. A caramel frappuccino. Walk up to the counter, it'll be fine. Shit, shit shit shit. Not again. It couldn't be. He was gone, never to be seen again. It was Chris. The Chris that treated her like a thing, the Chris that cheated on her, breaking her heart. And he's the only barista, of course. Just her luck.
"Hey, can I have a hot chocolate please?" What the fuck. why did I say that? I wanted a frappuccino. Oh well, the damage had been done,
"sure. that'll be £5"
Oh few, he didn't recognise her
"nice to see you again bianca"
His mouth curled up into a wry smile. Was he mocking me? Oh my god, he remembers me. Shit, he remembers me.
"I wish I could say the same"
Yes, Bianca, that was the perfect come-back. Alright, now I just have to pay. Tap your card, and move along. There, the hard part is done.
Only fate would have it that Bianca would run into Chris. But where does this lead to, what comes next?
when Bianca decides that she isn't cut out for college, she decides that (with the money she has saved) she is going to go on a hike across the country where she meets lots of interesting people, but who will she remember...and who isn't worth her attention.
